Absolutely beautiful 😍 The only suggestion I would make would be to maybe have a solid rim at the top, giving the chaos a boundary, or even a double/triple colour stripe. Thank you for sharing your thought process with us 🤗👍☺️

    1. a peg could make orientation easy, should you require it for construction reasons. Easy to retrofit.
    2. the top should've had increasingly smaller patterns in it. Would've both matched and counter balanced the lower portion which is gorgeous.
All in all, one of your best small~mid size projects!

    • @frankmakes

I’m so impressed with your channel. I made wooden baby rattles and other lathe products semi professionally for awhile and I almost exclusively used a skew chisel for all the turning. I felt like I was wasting a lot of time keeping the gouges sharp and switching back and forth. I put a grinding stone on the outboard end of the lathe and used that to touch up the skew when it got dull. Some days when I walked away from the lathe there would be a waist high pile of chips with my body imprint in it. I went back to machining and now run a machine shop for an aerospace company. You’ve inspired me to bust out the cnc router I bought years ago but never got around to fixing. I just ordered a new Masso G3 controller for it this morning

I aspire to be as skilled as you are in your craft. Thank you for your content.

You have one heck of a reporter - the news was pretty funny. I think having the chaotic pattern bleed into the top rings would have been pretty, but since you have solid rings on the bottom, the top looks great, to me.

What an unexpectedly lovely trash can--that 'chaotic' style is really eye-catching. Jon Peters also wrapped a plastic plant pot [he used a large squarish plant container] with wood, but his project remained an outdoor plant pot.

Frank, great work as, as usual, a classic piece of designed, functional pieces of furniture. My 2cents worth is that, without a plastic bag inside the pot, small pieces of rubbish may go through the drainage holes in the pot and make it a chore to empty.

the randomized glue-up looks like desert digital camouflage fabric. regarding gluing rings, I've found that using band clamps often displaces segments leading to cracks. So instead I just use gumbands for clamping, which makes it easy to align the wedges. I don't worry about bond strength when do I this because plenty of strength is achieved when the rings are stacked and glued.
