It’s episode 200 of the podcast and the end of series 14, two insane milestones for this ramshackle lump of podcast. And to celebrate this occasion there’s a record breaking fourth appearance from the grandson of a Batman, Adam Buxton.
Adam sets the agenda from the start, bearing gifts, mocking stone-clearing like a philistine, revealing what 1995 Richard Herring had somehow discovered annoyed Stewart Lee and attempting a slightly underwhelming tribute to Groundhog Day.
Plus find out how Nile Rodgers responded to jokes by kids, why a head in a jar has to bring its own cloth, whether it’s possible to have a film set at Stonehenge without the stones being knocked over at some point and whether child-men in their fifties have to finally grow up. Plus some extraordinary epistles from World War One and how fields with barbed wire can still cause injury even today.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this endeavour over the last 200 episodes and six years. Hopefully we can continue to move onwards and upwards.
We will be touring the podcast in 2019 (as well as another run at the Leicester Square Theatre on Mondays from 4th February to 1st April. Tickets here leicestersquar...

Adam just seems to be the nicest guy. I could listen to these two chat all day. A huge lift whilst feeling particularly down. Big thanks guys.
I have a lot of time for Adam and his ramble chats
Turns out, I don't.
@@themadplotter 😂😂😂😂😂
OMG! This is bound to be the highlight of the month. Why Adam is not a comedy god is beyond me. But maybe for the better. Seems like one of the best guys in town. Thanks once again, Rich!
What is the crireria for comedy god? Is resurrection a key requirement or a would like to have?
@@russelledwards001 Pretty sure you have to have been on the front cover of Deadpan (or one of those 90s comedy mags) to even make the longlist.
Having award-winning podcaster Adam Buxton on for episode 200 is the most Richard Herring thing possible.
Congrats on the milestone, a stone collectors delight... And Buckles is back, double delight.
Two incredibly kind, intelligent and hilarious human beings.
Wouldn’t be so quick to judge…
@@harryturner8701 are they not kind and hilarious?
Two of the loveliest guys in comedy. What an enjoyable way to spend an evening.
Poor ROSIE ,,,,DEAR THING
His Brian Blessed impression is the best in the biz.
What time?

Congrats on 200! Future wish-list: Mark Heap, Matt Berry, Chris Morris, Dylan Moran. Please.
Another few years on and still none of them have appeared. Add to that Paul Whitehouse, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie, Eric Idle, Harry Hill, Bill Bailey, Frank Skinner, Jack Dee, Ian Hislop, Craig Cash... Nicholas Lyndhurst might be fun, and unexpectedly timely right now.
"Because movies" is killing me. I haven't laughed the hard in ages. Joy. xx
Yay! Dr Buxsticles! Rich, you sounded so tired that you were too tired to say that you were tired.
It's worth making it official. As much as I love David Mitchell, Adam's appearance here has surely tipped him into the #1 Guest position.
YES!!!!! Just made a cup of tea, and this has popped up, awesome, headphones on minimise the window, and pretend I'm hard at work.
Adam is good value for money. I love him.
Thank you so much for being an Richard Herring.
Adam and Richard have such an unexpected brilliant chemistry. Easy to see why Adam is such a frequent guest, and why they are both the kings of the chatty comedy podcasts. Love you both, BYEEEEEEE
I’ve always felt that they have great chemistry together too. They should do a podcast together in which they just chat to each other. They both have similar career backgrounds in that they both belonged to comedy double acts in the ‘90s with someone who went on to a lot more fame. Herring tends to play up the bitterness a bit more and Buxton’s persona is more chill and content with his hand. It would work!
Another fabulous show, thank you Richard.
Fun fact: Richard Herring replied to one of my comments last Christmas, consequently we are best mates now... although I haven't told him yet nor heard from him since! But I have a good feeling about this, not sure where it will lead, but just in case I am decorating the nursery as we speak.
I find living in my car directly outside their house is the way to go. Then they'll recognize how special your relationship is.
@@madderhat5852 No, don't do that. My car is already camped out in front of his house, after he replied to one of my comments a few months ago. Admittedly it was just to advertise where his other podcasts could be found, but I felt a deep personal connection.
In any case, there's already like 30 cars here, a lot of people want to stalk Richard.
Hmm... y'know what? I may have inadvertently found a popular dogging site...
Those are all valiant attempts but if you don't spend your days watching through the peepholes in the attic, followed by nights underneath the bed in the main bedroom, then you really aren't putting the effort in.
I have a signed tour program made out to me on which he wrote "I am wanking as I write this", so actually he and I are more than friends. That Katy bird is an obvious beard
@@DodderingOldMan If you haven't figured out yet how to get your car *inside* the building, you're forever doomed to be a second stringer at best. (Is yours the little red one, or maybe the blue one with the stove in doors? Can't tell the makes of them through this filthy basement window...)
Gotta love the Adam Buxton ones.
Great stuff.
Happy bi centennial episode!!
You were a good guest, Richard, for Adam's show. I could watch you two each and every episode
Perfect 200 episode guest. Both very relaxed chatting about common ground subjects. Be them chewing the fat over old tv days or to modern podcasting & everything in between.
Who would give a thumbs down & watch this 🙄 Just don’t get that, when they don’t have to Watch.
I am in love with Dr Buckles
Adam 'Hot Legs' Buxton x
Like a rambler that gets killed in a horror movie.
Happy anniversary, and thanks for all of the laughs.
I love Count Buckules so much. Another great rhlstp!
I was editing photos whilst listening to this podcast, the photos I was editing had a Scottish DF concerts AAA blue pass in it from Glasgow... I decided to flick over to the video and watch a bit right at the moment they did a close up on Adam's laptop. I was a bit freaked out. Signs.
Absolutely brilliant, as expected
Rosies' predicament must have been very, very distroughtening Adam...
THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENCE
Just watched Groundhog Day..... spooky.
Congrats on 200 episodes Richard.
Just been told about these podcasts - brilliant. Searching out more now. Lol
P.S. I now own those Perspex jars Adam is on about at 1:21:50
Yay day made! Love RH, love Buckles!!!
Buckles
Best guest ever
brilliant, congrats.. :)
Fantastic stuff looking forward the Brighton shows ☺
great thanks
8:58 - "Distraughtening". Dr Buckles is very familiar with 'Lumpy Gravy'.
Great Episode!
Buxton needs to be cloned. I love him a little.
I watch *Withnail & I* every year at least...in fact when I consider death, and realise I don't fear it at all, I always think the only sad part will be having watched Withnail & I for a "last" time.
I always tell people about how Polar Express was the pinnacle of horrific anatomical animation! Yet another reason why I wish I was buddies with Adam Buxton...
world record 4 times. well done. hes always funny
A weird tension during this one. Great!
Good for you, Kipper. Won Greg & Alex too.
Splash of the titans!
reminds me of the joke, ''Jesus is Coming!''..get a mop''
YES BUCKLES IS BACK!
Adam sounds like omid djalili when he's reading the kids jokes.
Breaddy legs!
I didn't know about Adam buxton before this except for him in hot fuzz as Tim messenger but I love him in this and defo will be looking at more of his stuff
You are in for a treat as there is lots to look up. The Adam Buxton Podcast is great and the ones with Louis Theroux are funny and brilliant.
Mr Buxton hit me with his pink bike at Temple Meads station. Hate crime or seduction technique?
Haha ... I snorted laughed. My cousin said we'd all end up selling burgers to each other. Little did we know we'd be swapping jokes, I expect Changi was similar?
Bill Burr openly ridicules his sponsors, and constantly questions the validity of their claims AS HE READS THE COPY!! The result is I never skip through the advertising. In the beginning some sponsors pulled out... but the ones that stuck with it realised that his version of advertising is way more effective.
Alias Maurice, the mangrate part of the show(s) (is your dad alive?) was great....man.
I can SOOO feel Adam's pain! For awhile every terribly expensive graphic novel by Alejandro Jodorowsky had my plug quote plastered across the back, yet I never had a single one of the damn things sent to me gratis! (And not for want of begging, I assure you!)
i apologise to mrs buxton but i think i’m slightly in love with adam
< i'm going to listen to the stone clearing pod cast now/ reminds me of the tapedropping program on resonance fm of the hellebore shew if it were made by julian cope / >
Another fun fact Richard is actually my fourth cousins uncles nephew three times removed on my pet budgie's side so I know him quite well........
Old Buckey junior came pretty well prepared for this one with all his gifts and other resources etc.
I have a hunch Richards stone clearing/cairn building is really a clever way of covering over a shallow grave. Has anyone heard from Stewart Lee recently?
Shame that Jeremy Hardy was never a guest on RHSTP (rhstp)
I hope buckles deep dog is alright. Did she have to wear a lamp post thing on her head?
Love Adam Buxton
Stephen Tobolowski helped work on [and was in?] the David Byrne film, True Stories.....Which the song Radio Head is on.
:)
An Iain Lee fan?
The shortest-lived of those 90s comedy magazines was the one called Comedy Magazine. Issue 1 went on sale just as its cover star was arrested and charged with some very serious crimes. He was subsequently acquitted of course, but too late to save Issue 2.
In relation to Richards stone wall in field building. Can anyone remember the name of the film/program, mid-90s, about two guys building a wall in the middle of a field? I remember it being a bit odd.
It was called "The Music of Chance" based on a Paul Auster book.
@@seano- thank you, really appreciate that.
I'm a dripster but Chris Evans, not that one, doesn't realise I cancelled the monthly badger via PayPal when I moved to Dripster. So now sends me Dripster and monthly badger emails :)
Which episode/guest are they talking about/Adam aping at around the 1:13:30 mark? John Kearns? Someone else?
why don't you sell the chairs at the end of every series and buy new ones?
You can tell he fancies Alice Roberts by the way he says Alice Roberts.
Hi Richard Herring. I think Theo Von would be a worthwhile booking for a future episode if you can get him. I don't know if he tours the UK much and I am frankly unwilling to do any research to that end.
Actually, I just did. He has nothing in the UK coming up but maybe you could set something up the next time you're hawking your 'Goodnight Sweetheart' reboot around Hollywood.
Adam Buxton is basically an acceptable Giles Brandeth
I'm trying to find the re.he.le.ste.pu/ru.hu.lu.stu.pu tipping point where the latter pronunciation definitively replaced the former.
Buckles!!! 😎
18:50 😂😂😂😂😂😂😁

They Shall Not Grow Old; most of the footage was taken from training exercises as opposed to actual conflict
How do you know this?
@@iSmidgeons Discussion with Peter Jackson and Mark Kermode after the premiere screening at the BFI. Peter remarks that this was the only available, in tact footage him and Fran could get that depicted conflict, or the closest thing there to.
Honestly, I've just checked and it's really hard to find any mention of this in particular online AND I'm pretty much saying this from memory, but I'm almost certain that's what Peter said during the interview.
Alisdair Reid I’m fairly certain you misheard
I can't find the interview Mark and Peter had at the BFI but I saw the film on Armistice Day. After the screening they played a recording from the premiere at the BFI. This tweet from Mark is one of the only mentions I can find that this interview took place:
"A privilege to do the onstage interview with Peter Jackson at @BFI Southbank following the premiere of his astonishing film THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD. Thanks to all who came, and all who watched via satellite around the UK."
It's in this interview that Peter talks about using footage of training exercises in place of battles, probably due to the bulk or immobility of the cameras, not to mention the incredible risk factor of filming real conflict for propaganda purposes. I've spent days (not literally) scouring the internet trying to find support for this but have come up empty handed.
I'd welcome anyone else's input
@@3transmit doubt I misheard a large portion of an interview
★★★★☆ Pretty good but went a bit flat around an hour in.
@Simon Simon Dufuq?
I know you're joking, but actually kind of accurate, they peaked with the magazine. (3.5/5).
@@Jambobist I rate your comment ★★★★★☆☆
It's sad going back through the Adam Buxton episodes and hearing about the pink Brompton, after listening to his episode on Drunk Women Solve Crime and hearing about how the pink Brompton got stolen
A lot of the WW1 film footage was actually re-enacted, still shot during the war (mostly) and often with the same people involved rather than actors, but yeah a lot of it wasn't actually filmed by wartime correspondents. It wasn't so easy to film during conflicts back then, not that it's easy now (it really isn't, and plenty of war correspondents have lost their lives, but hey, it's trendy to hate journalists and news reporters these days so I guess people couldn't care less if they got killed doing their jobs) but given the circumstances you were highly likely to get killed by accident if you started filming on the battlefield, let alone deliberately.
Is this why the steve carell office is in scranton? Every day is the same
I suppose saying lootenant helps rack up the yanks... that's where the money is for you.
I'd love to see Romesh Ranganathan again and Rob Beckett
My dad was a butcher and he put me off more meat than any vegan. Hot dogs should never, ever be eaten under any circumstances. Burgers should only be eaten if you have seen them made. The details are far too upsetting to divulge but it involves faecal matter.
Five bags of popcorn
The dates on fruit and veg are just best before, they’re not use by dates.
If it was anyone else's podcast that someone had come on with loads of ready-prepared content and taken over I'd think they were supremely arrogant. With this podcast it really needs something, so thank god for Adam! As Joe Lycett said when he was a guest recently Richard does seem to struggle a lot with conversation. The emergency questions are great, but something else is needed - a game? Some ready prepared content... I don't know. Adam is really good at finding content and making it all flow seamlessly.
Really?
where is this wed's episode? 13th feb
Audio only
I Love you Adam! So funny,so intelligent and HOT
There’s an Editor?!
Number 200 with Adam Buxton!! was it suppose to rhyme?
Leftenant ffs! Read Good Soldier Schultz innit?

I'm worried that the below-line comments might be the most entertaining of the next while... typing this while you blather and anticipating a snooze
A floppy disc isn't disc-shaped.
Surely it's floppy disc shaped though and is thus disc shaped
@@Herring1967 Only in the same way that a washing machine is round because it contains a drum that is.
@@WhitbyStuff So you admit a floppy disc includes a disc then. So it's perfectly ok to have on both counts
@@Herring1967 Absolutely. If anything that simply contains a disc is valid then it's valiid. So we should accept a record sleeve as a disc because it contains one.
It doesn't matter how you choose to carry and protect your disc. It's stil a disc
Yes!!! I took the likes up to 666
It's almost as if Adam was so worried they'd have nothing to say to each other after 3 previous appearances that he spent the previous night packing his bag with talking points. About twenty minutes in so far and he just . . . won't . . . stop . . . talking. Kinda rude when you think about it - to appear on someone else's show and just dominate the stage right out the gate: "Here's my bag, here's what I want to talk about."
Have you seen the Brian Blessed one?
This is rubbish. I've watched them all just to be sure. Oh, did I say Adam's quite good...
Lose the hat Adam...embrace the baldness.
