Great info. I actually thought of making a children’s series out of my Kindle Vella “Come Sunday” series. Perhaps I’ll do this someday later in my writing career.
@@VivienReis I wrote three episodes so far of the first season of mine, but have taken a long break due to other writing projects. I’m still planning to do two seasons of my “Come Sunday” series though with 50 episodes per season. I actually made up my own episode guide to outline and track all my episodes just like for TV shows that I think would be helpful for other writers using Kindle Vella too.
I did everything myself when I self published three books last year. Editing formatting cover design etc. Every self publishing platform is different especially when you do the cover.
Thank you for this video. It explained what I did not know about the bleed and you gave me how to figure out for full-page, double spread which is what I needed. Luckily my artwork already has enough bleed and blank space for text. Thank you for the confirmation.
Thank you so much for stressing trim size off the bat; I work in print and setting documents up for print on a daily basis and it's amazing how many clients AND their designers/illustrators who don't seem to grasp trim size and bleed! (Granted, different niche, but similar issues!)
It's surprising sometimes! I think most people just aren't aware of the steps and it's no wonder. The tech can get scary. I think I'll do a breakdown of the steps in the next video. Idea to publication!
Hi Vivian, It is so great to see you on RUclips again and I am so glad you are feeling better. I am just beginning to use Procreate. If I create an illustration on Procreate should I set the PPI to 300 before I begin the illustration or is that something I can do after the illustration is finished? This video was super helpful and I would love to see more videos about children’s illustration and also illustration of middle grade reader books with more sketch/drawing style illustrations periodically through the book usually at the beginning of each chapter. Thanks so much! Cheers, Lisa
Great suggestions! I'll add them to my list. Thank you :) As far as I know it's best to set the PPI before illustrating, but there's a way to resize afterward in Procreate. If you're trying to salvage any illustrations that were at a smaller PPI, I would recommend saving a copy before resizing to experiment on how that affects the quality. If Procreate is just scaling your image up, it might lose some quality.
This is such a wonderful resource thank you! I've been watching you for ages but I've recently written a children's book so would love a few more videos like this!
The Skillshare course is live again!
Let me know what questions you have about children's books :)

What a great idea! I still want to experiment with Kindle Vella. I feel like I'm playing catch up 😂
