i remember watching a movie years ago featuring 'my babys got to pay the rent' and i fell in love. went on to search for more music and found this. it seriously gives me goosebumps!! just so beautiful. the voice, instruments, the whole band... this is amazing.
Spent the past few hours killing time by surfing around, looking for new music. Used Black Keys as a starting point, a few amazing bands later i come across these guys and i'm so thankful i did.
@deluxehd First, as a homosexual I am offended by your comment. Second, my library include over over 200 Canadian bands. Neil Young and Leonard Cohen quite possibly being two of the most famous from Canada. The Barenaked Ladies were supposed to be a fun and light band, and they succeeded at writing good, poppy music. It was catchy, and it didn't have to be particularly well-written to be enjoyable. So I respect them for doing what they set out to do near flawlessly.
I just want to not relate to this song anymore as a riches to rags (to cautious hope) posterboy. If I could just make it stop breaking my heart (RIP Mimi...and my Sophie): "I could weep and I could cry/I could wonder why." I do, way too much.
umm... lovers in a dangerous time is a bruce cockburn song. not barenaked ladies. Nobody can argue his talents as a canadian artist/songwriter. It does sound similar, so maybe if you'd like, you can argue about how hard it is to find original art? or how maybe it's ok for a band to pay homage to anothers? or we could all just enjoy the song.
Song of the day 1-9-2016: Let's not forget, that nothing can be bathed so thoroughly as I am now and still be considered a failure. This is the last act, the prestige, I get to show off a little, to flap my tail-coat in the wind of my landing... Alright, very well then, it's time to put myself about a bit, yes, put a bit of stick about, make them jump, that sort of thing.
ok I just hafta say this. Don't all try kill me at once, just throwin it out there...here goes..Doesn't the guitar sound a bit like a slowed down Lovers in a dangerous time? Please..I love this bands sound..I really do..buuut..*
Serously? Give it a break... you can't tell me cockburn was the first guy to do 3 of the most common chords in a row. There are about a dozen songs with the same chords; you can't just say this is somehow a rip off because there is a d,g, and c in a god damn song. Get real. You ever listen to the blues? Literally half of blues songs are based on the same chords... when it is this basic, it isn't what you play, but how you play it.
Loverrrrs, In a dangerous time. Great song, I love it, but come on obviously influenced by Bruce Co, and Barenaked Ladies. Again i mean no dis-respect. The song is killer and in my rotation at the moment, but gotta give credit when its due.
@deluxehd The Barenaked Ladies are Canada's greatest shame? Have you ever LISTENED to Nickelback? Or what about Justin Bieber? The Barenaked Ladies are a great band. The Deep Dark Woods are amazing, and comparing them to the Barenaked Ladies is idiotic, but to say the Barenaked Ladies are a bad band is also idiotic. Good day, sir.
Brilliant harmonies on this song. Shivers up my spine every time I hear it.

What a perfect simple and affecting song. What a fine band . Understatement. Remeber that ?
I'll never get any rest. 😭
"The wayward son/He never gets nothing done/If I had some money, I'd be on the run/But all the money I had is gone."
This has always moved me.
All the money one person had is gone. Great song, great band. Nuff said.

Maybe all the money they had is gone because they got sued by the barenaked ladies?
why would they get sued by them? These guys are more original then the barenaked ladies could ever dream of being.
You're actually thinking of a song written by Bruce Cockburn, Dude. Lovers in a Dangerous Time.
And they certainly never wrote lyrics as retarded as "chickety China the Chinese chicken".
love this song , it gives me chills!!
