Apologizes if you've done it but i've missed it, but I would love to see a "best bang for your buck courses" video. Really put a spotlight on the courses that do a great job providing value to people who just want to play golf and don't care about how good the showers are.
Great idea!!!
Saticoy golf course in Ventura is 11 bucks to walk 9 holes, a classic
Great idea, but i dont want people overcrowding the hidden gems
Yes central tx preferably
@@waylonmorristexas4851there is a 9 hole course in Hawley TX that isn’t bad for the price. 20 bucks for all day play and that includes a cart. It’s called Twisted Oaks.
It’s obviously not perfect, but if you go during the week it’s not crowed and you can relax and enjoy your round.
@@kmadigan1347 bad mindset to gatekeep information...
FM = Farm to Market. Basically a two lane road usually.
I had to look it up myself. California guy here. Should have just read reviews. Lol
worst course in texas looks like an average low rent course in the northeast, you could definitely make a trip up north and find some worse ones. let me know if you need some recommendations!
come play Leo J. Martin in Massachusetts, 2.7 stars, you probably wont be able to putt on the greens
I live in the midwest and I am looking at some of these course like, yeah they aint perfect, but not horrendous
Leo J Martin is definitely one of the worst. Absolutely no maintenance. Greens are mix of dirt and weeds.
Actually, the entire course is dirt and weeds. Yelp ranks it 2.1 stars.
@@michaelk8152 hear that mr short game? would love to host you at massachusetts’ premier municipal course ill even pay the $45 green fee
Ponkapoag is just as bad, if not worse lol
I'm from Baltimore and I swear we have some of the worst public golf in the country. Clifton Park, Forrest Park and Carroll Park are no joke actual health hazards to go and play there because of where they're located. Forrest Park has had police car chases on the actual golf course
A police chase on a golf course is the most Baltimore shit I ever heard
Get ya a tee time at turf valley off rt.40west it's good and safe. I'm from md. and I seen those courses arm yourself with a weapon while playing. Go O's
@@DFox-ud3gx I actually was highly impressed by their redoes they did there. I play out of Piney Branch but if I'm playing public golf it tends to be either Bulle Rock or Greystone.
Love seeing the Coach. Alive and well.
Try Meadows Golf Club in Lincoln Park, NJ. Course is built in a swamp and next to sewage treatment plant. 3.4 stars on google, $69 on the weekends, nuts pricing for the conditioning.
I played it last year (grew up in town and never bothered to play it because of the price and always looked like a dog track) and the fairways were hoorible, the greens were terrible and holes 8-13 smelled awful when the wind was blowing the right way. Never understood how the course is always so busy.
Coach! Good seeing Mike. Miss the Golfholics. I consider them one of the original RUclips golfers. Please have Mike on more every time you’re out in San Diego.
Greenskeeper here. On the first course, most of those areas are easily fixable, but there are so many that it would be very costly. It looks like a lot of it was where the grass burnt up and died, which makes me think they have serious irrigation issues. And with how expensive irrigation systems are, the condition of the karts, and the greens fee of $70, it would suggest the owner would rather collect money than spend any to make it better
Yeah it wasn't THAT bad. It looked nice in spots, just way too many crappy areas. Like you said, way too expensive to have so many bad areas. The problem is the golf boom around here. If it the course is filled everyday, what's the incentive to spend a bunch of money fixing it? To their credit, it looks like the people there day to day are trying.
Tell Coach I miss watching him and Marko do their thing… and glad they turned me on to RUclips golf.
Where I live they put grass seed on the bare areas and rope it off. It seems to work. They should try it.
3.8 rating out of 5? You realize it’s not 3.8 out of 10 right? I can’t imagine a 3.8 being one of the worst in America.
Should be 3.8 out of 10
There's definitely worse 9holes out there. But also it seems he sticks to pretty populated areas. I have a 3.7 near me but I doubt he'd ever visit here.
I think the ratings are misleading sometimes. Most of the really bad courses out there were good 8-10 years ago and still have lots of 5-star ratings from back then.
These courses are not bad at all compared to some of the courses
in Southern Arizona. Some golfers are never found. 😂
You realize that a quick and simple Google search would answer your own question, right?
heather highlands golf in mi is literally the worst one you will ever play last i checked was 2.4 star
These are millionaire Country Clubs compared to most of our local courses. Sunset landing in Huntsville AL, Twin Lakes and Brookside in Arab AL.
Exactly. These courses are playable.
Please add the Delray Beach Club in Florida to the series. No mowing, bunkers not maintained, tee boxes not mowed, and my favorite part, the greens are like putting on a gravel road. It's a shame what has happened to a Donald Ross course.... Great series!
I’ve been working on grounds crew for 5 years.
The main problem I see with that course is improper drainage. Those areas are a combination of wet wilt as well as overgrowth.
If an area is really hot one year, the next year (if it’s cooler and rains more) will grow thicker, making areas around it suffer.
The mud is very telling of how much water the soil is holding. That place needs a desert’s worth of topdressing
I am absolutely loving this series, please keep it up!
7:40 ff ... the Young Cemetery. Reminds me of hole on a nice par3 course I used to play in Santa Barbara. A family living right next to the green had buried their pet dog just off the course, with a big marker reading "Best Dog Ever"; the hole was thereafter christen'd "Dead Dog".
I am with the other fellas. We miss us some coach-o. Good to see that dude. The OG’s of the RUclips golf. Love your videos as well. Get Mike back!
Common man! You gotta review the restrooms! Seriously! 😂
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t you say you booked Mission Trails at $19 per person? Then you were charged $36 per?
Really enjoyed this video! I have a home 9 hole course my wife and I play on the weekends. It’s not the best and could use some work, but it’s cheep , fun , and the people are really friendly! All in all a good time and a good way to spend the weekend.
Many course in TX suffer from grass diseases and mold most likely due to poor drainage. Unless the drainage is improved it's almost impossible to keep this from happening.
Now that you have said this, Ridgeview is horrible about water drainage when it rains. Its literally a sopping wet mess anytime the course gets water. And the Texas clay is awful.
I'm sure that's part of it...but that doesn't explain why the tops of mounds are bare, that would be the least affected by poor drainage.
I am trying to work on the same problem with my swing. I get too high over my shoulders and at the top my club is pointing right. It seems like you barely did it in your swing. Putting a headcover under your right armpit and taking swings without it falling out on the backswing is a good drill. Love your content! Keep it up!
I’ve played Riverchase a few dozen times over the years and it’s deteriorated from a nice and enjoyable experience to one of the worst in North Texas.
The back 9 used to be the front 9 and is hole 11 (previously 2) is still home to the wildest golf shot I’ve ever seen.
My friend was terrified of the water on the right given his tendency to slice the ball right into it every time off the tee box. So he aims dead left at the apartments across the street that runs along the left side of the course.
Of course he hits it straight as an arrow and off the wall of the apartments. The ball somehow ricocheted back toward the course, bounced off the parking lot, over the fence, off of the sidewalk, into the street, off of the sidewalk, over the fence, and rolled into the fairway.
It was amazing!!!
As someone who has worked at a course for many years, that first course really wouldn’t take much to get it back in shape. Just someone who cared tbh
Funny that you mentioned the steel frame on golf carts on the first course so your range finder would stick. Encountered that for the first time a few months ago in Vegas (maybe Wolf Creek, but not 100%), but they actually affixed a steel plate to the frame so you could stick stuff to it.
You should try Arrowhead Golf Course in eastern PA. No tee boxes, goose dropping ALL OVER the greens, all the drinking fountains are broken and the snack bar closed; gnats and bugs bothering you on every single hole, bare spots on the green and a tired looking clubhouse.
Sounds terrible. For sure a worthy candidate! lol
Great vid MSG!! And really cool seeing Coach out there with you!!
I love this series please keep em coming
OMG! Wish I knew you were going to be in town. I live right down the road from Ridgeview Ranch and use their practice areas often. The course/fairways are pretty bad as you have seen. But all in all for the money, it can be a fun course to play. Budget wise, its not totally un-worth it.. But that's just my opinion. If you want nicer, you have to pay more around here. Westridge which is right up the road is a pretty solid course for both the money and conditions. Would love to tee off sometime with you. I know we would have a blast.
Sorry, Castle Creek CC north of Escondido, CA just off of Interstate 15 is the worst golf course in America. Little doubt, It was once a dog track but now even the dogs stay away.
If you would want to travel all the way out to New York, there is an absolutely awful golf course around the central area. It is called Radisson Greens, and I have played many golf courses in my life, but they have never come close to the condition of that course. The fringes are basically all dirt, the fairways have divots every couple feet, and not even mentioning the amount of goose feces that has never been cleaned. The tee boxes are almost dirt, and you have to move your ball in front of the markers to hit off of grass. The range is the same way, and is irons only! By the way, I love the content and enjoy this series immensely.
Ridgeview Ranch, 20 years ago, was one of my favorite courses in DFW. I do know TX been in a drought for most of those 20 years. Some of the course looked great, but the bad spots are really bad, what a shame...
Matt, I like this series, love your sense of humor.
You need to play Walden Country Club in Crofton, MD. It's rated as 3.6 stars as well, and I think it should be closer to a 2 star. Those fairways at Ridgeview Ranch look like Walden.
The worst course i've seen you review was Blackhawk in Phlugerville Tx.....you rated it about a year and a half ago. The ones you rated here in this video are not crazy bad....just expensive for the conditions. Keep up the good work Matt....take care.
Marko’s divorce has been harder on Mike than Marko. We gotta get this guy back out there!
I miss golfholics
I grew up playing golf courses like these. Local public golf courses in central Florida. Most of them weren’t in great shape, especially in the summer time. Winter time when the northerners would come down they would be in pretty good shape. Texas is very similar to Florida in the summer with less rain. There are a bunch of public courses in my area that let the fairways and greens get longer in the summer. Most affordable public courses in my area don’t make enough money in the summer time to keep it pristine. I imagine it’s similar in Texas. You should try playing these courses in the late fall or early spring during the busy season to give them a fair rating. I can speak from experience that most of the affordable public courses in central Florida are in much nicer shape during the busy season from November to April. I imagine Texas is very similar.
Go to Westport Golf Club in Westport, NC. That course will give you a new winner for the worst course
Next time in Dallas for this series check out Tour 18 Dallas, def up there with one of the worst courses in the DFW
Hey it's Mike from @golfholics. The OG!
#1. STONEYBROOK EAST GOLF CLUB IN ORLANDO FLORIDA 📍
If you ever find yourself in eastern Tennessee, stop by Andrew Johnson Golf Course in Greeneville,TN. Bunkers are terrible, green has very thick grass like a fairway, power lines and rough driving range.
Love this series! Go check out Franklin Golf Course in Franklin, North Carolina. Good luck finding the second hole. The course is driving distance from you!
Here in the uk there are many courses that have public walkways throughout , those course you could find and kind of conditions, motorbike skid marks on greens , no flags (stolen or broken), councils put very little money into them and they don’t charge enough to fix things, Bootle golf course near me in Liverpool is a prime example, has a decent sized clubhouse changing room etc, all boarded up now you pay to play in a converted shipping container.
Good to see Coach back on the tube!
"Give me the option to go for it from a fairway bunker, even if it's a par 5." Dude, that is not realistic in terms of amateur golf nor is it in terms of course design. You hit it into the bunker, you deserve to be penalized. Certain courses (like Sawgrass and some other Dye designs) afford those luxuries because the course is so difficult as is.
I’ve played at Riverchase multiple times in the last year. The fairway full of dirt is how a LOT of it looked. Glad to see it looks better now! Good priced golf for Dallas
All three of those courses are in very good shape compared to Whispering Lakes Golf Course located in Ontario California. One billion gopher holes with no grass whatsoever. The greens are bumpy garbage. If you want the worst course in America, go play at Whispering Lakes.
Coach sighting! MSG do Castle Creek in Escondido, Ca next as part of this series
he did in past vid, its the worst
@@JasonEdwards-d9x found it! Good lookin out👍🏻
Mission Trails is where I played high school golf! Looks about the same as it did 10+ years ago. You kinda know what you're getting when you go there! It's where my gold journey began as well
There are too many poorly maintained courses in North Texas these days. But, with the clay soil and the heavy rains that tend to wash out a lot of the nutrients, it’s really no surprise to me. Most of those courses would greatly benefit from investments in new soil and drainage! Indian Creek (Creeks Course) used to be a fantastic challenge. However, it’s a complete mess nowadays with mud and weeds everywhere. 😢
Ranking a course strictly by review scores isn't always valid. I play regularly at Towhee Golf in Spring Hill, TN. It could probably qualify for one of your "worst courses" videos ( 3.6), but the course itself is great. Most of the low ratings are based on cost to play, pace of play, and staff complaints, not course condition.
Need to come play Longhills in Benton, AR. The fairways are like a concrete parking lot and the greens have strips of the turf missing. The course is absolute trash for $50 a round.
I would love to see you come to New York and play on Willow Creek its marked at 2.8. I would love to get your reaction to it since its the course I've learned to play on.
Gotta try Dan Valley Golf Club in NC, holes aren’t marked and no cart paths. Cow pasture golf.
Matt, noticed you putting with an Edel putter. Did you go through the Edel fitting process???
Wait a minute I’m confused you said you booked it on Golf now for $19 apiece plus transaction fees but when you got there, he charged you $36 each. That’s not a bargain. 🤷♂️
Love this series. I have this Morbid fascination with crap courses! But the Josh Mayer ones cover much skankier courses.
So, you said it was $19 each, so 38 total. Then you say you lucked out by paying 36 each.
I don't mind gas carts if it means they can keep enough of them in service all day. Having to share carts with strangers, not being able to get a cart until right before you tee off, having the cart lose power 3/4 through the round, etc. if they got enough electric carts to not have any of those problems great, but if it's a $30 course so they need old gas carts to have enough give me the guzzler
sharing carts is cool. You get to meet interesting people.
I've never had a bad experience with an electric cart. Sounds like a course specific issue
Love these videos! Next time in Phoenix area, have to check out Kokopelli Golf Club in Chandler. FAR worse! Would suggest wearing a pair of shoes that you are comfortable with getting ruined.
Mission trails with Mike. His channel was the first one that got me into RUclips golf
I don’t understand why they don’t build their golf courses on the windmill farms. The aesthetic of the blades spinning while glancing at the morning sun would be absolutely breathtaking.
There are several reasons & factors as to why any given course in America reaches poor conditioning. Especially in the west where we are 100% reliant on sound / functional irrigation systems & they finally age out, are mis managed etc is why conditioning starts to suffer
Remember the 90’s golf build boom. That’s now 25+ yrs ago and 25 yrs is what the USGA states is the lifetime for most of the bigger components of an irrigation system.
The most expensive & important tool being the irrigation system can cost anywhere from 2-6 million dollars to replace depending on the situation. As a former Superintendent I feel like I am one of a few that is speaking out about the real reasons golf struggles but as soon as you do the sound of crickets on boards quickly.
So far I am seeing great videos like this to show and share many poor realities but we are not digging into & talking about how properties actually get to this point. I want to help protect budget golf because it’s about to be dozed over & lost forever in many zones
I just need the opportunity to privately speak with someone like yourself to compliment the great work you are already doing:)
I believe that on the first course he played that maybe wild pigs had rooted around looking for grubs etc. We had this on our course in Florida and it looked just like this until it was corrected.
A golf course is a massive area to keep pristine ,so it’s bound to have a couple spots of dead grass or standing water, but the fairway at 4:25 is just unacceptable. If you hit a perfect drive straight down the middle and still have to move it out of dead grass, it’s a problem.
Placid Lakes Golf Club in Lake Placid FL and Colony West GLADES COURSE in Ft. Lauderdale FL. Must needed for this series
Pheasant Run in Missouri should be on this list. It’s mainly a par 3 course and has 18 holes and it’s awful. You pay $40 for 18 holes and the greens or poorly maintained as well as the tee boxes
Loved the video, there are courses in South Carolina that would make these 3 look like the Augusta National!!!
Mission Trails is not even the worst course in San Diego... let’s see you at Carlton oaks
I’d honestly take thicker grain sand than pebbles and rocks for bunkers. Have a local course in Taylors, MI. Best public course in metro Detroit. It’s always packed and making good money. Never could understand how you’d go so cheap on bunker sand. No one wants to hit a bunker that has pebbles or Little Rocks in it.
Golf courses have always had "dynamic pricing" cheaper on the weekdays, cheaper in the late afternoons when it's hot, etc. not being up front and sticking it too you if they happen to be busy that particular day is price gouging. Or "bait and switch" or as we say in poker "string bets"
I’d be so upset if I owned a course that had a 3.6/5 rating (also known as a B- if we are talking about grades) And someone called my course the worst in the country because they just decided to.
Come on man That is sort of irresponsible
Especially when we can see maintenance people on the course It’s not like they aren’t trying And that’s why the 3.6 is a 3.6 and not a 2.1 Most people are aware that you can’t really just make the fairways great and the greens great It takes a lot of money and a good climate to be the best of the best
95% of public golf courses have major issues somewhere on the course
You are way off with your 95% of public courses having major issues. Maybe 5% in my experience. Those courses are below average to terrible. I've definitely only ever played on one course that's as bad as those. Maybe it's a location thing. I'm in the SE.
Yeah, you're wrong. I've golfed all over America, and not anywhere near 95% have major issues, let alone minor ones. It's less than 10%. Also, a vast majority of courses have an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5. So a 3.6 or whatever rating is indeed garbage. If you can't maintain a fairway, the easiest part to maintain, you're a garbage course. 😊
Come up to Southern IL. We have a few courses you would enjoy for this series and otherwise.
You should do Worst Courses in Georgia.. Middle Couse you played in Video Reminded me of Callahan Golf Link in Waleska, Ga.
You need to look at Crockett ridge in Kingsport,Tn ! They have a 60$ green fee, could be a great course but they had irrigation issues and 12 of 18 greens are dead and there not even trying to fix them, crab grass and dirt spots in the fairways! For the area they are charging 15/20$ more than others local courses that are in much better condition
It was good to see coach back on the channel
Love this series. We need more Coach.
Mission Snails is far from the worst course.
Bro, your videos just keep getting better
the hot summer, the clay soil... in Dallas area, but river chase indeed is not my favorite even i live in half mile
We should play The Preserve at Tara in Sarasota/Bradenton, Florida!
I played Quailwood in Dewey AZ a couple weeks ago. I would love to hear your comments playing that coarse.
Please play Hidden Valley Golf Club outside Columbia, SC. I’m convinced they put all the holes away from the parking so people don’t leave before paying. Fun layout and no complaints on the people or price but the conditions will make these look incredible.
I live in San Diego and have played Mission Trails. I don’t remember this course being overpriced and the course was in decent shape.
Hey Matt I say it every one of these videos you need to do Murrieta's California Oaks Golf Club in Socal. While you are there you can check our Ricky Fowler's driving range that he saved from demolishing because it was where he learned to play. He also played the Cal Oaks GC when he was a young man, back when it was respectable. IF you want more details please feel free to message me!
My word, you need to come play Pinetuck in rock hill sc. Carts have no roofs, bad brakes, super unkempt, impossible greens. We couldn't finish the 18 and stopped on 6 cuz our cart died. It has potential just needs tremendous tlc
Love your videos Iona your voice is like angels singing 💋💋💋. Iona my ? Is what did Big John Daily mean when he was talking about his left arm and left hand and a gap .This is a bit confusing to me . I used mens standard grips ,tried some jumbo max but wasn’t quite sure about them and now use a Pxg midsize..Keep up the great work. If you ever find yourself in Canada ,in the province of Alberta,I would love to show you our wonderful golf courses.
At some point I'm gonna need you to play Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook CA. I'll even cover your green fees if you do it!
For being in Coppell, you'd think River Chase would be better! Lake Park in Lewisville is a flat field, but a course in Coppell, should be better.
I will say Staff and cook / bartender are awesome people.
Okay, I think it's time to add one to the list.
Antler Creek Golf Course in Peyton Colorado, about 80 minutes south of Denver. Currently sits on Google with 3.4 stars. Please PLEASE come review this!
Matt with you originally living in the SoCal area you definitely have to know that Victoria Golf Links in Carson is so much worse than all of these. Just ask Joey Cold Cuts and Bobby Fairways 🤣
I'd love to see you golf Brown County, WI. Brown County Golf Course is located just west of my home town of Green Bay, WI. It's a full 18 hole course, publicly owned by Brown County, and it's not bad, not the worst at all! In fact, it's top 10% quality in the state. The problem with that golf course, IT'S HARD! Don't let the satellite imagery fool you! The fairways are super skinny in width (most pga courses look easier than this!), the greens are tiny and easy to miss, and it's all situated in a forest! Super easy to lose a golf ball there, it kicked my butt the one time I golfed 9 there! I'm dying to see what it does to experienced golfers!
It's funny to think that he has to setup the camera, and then walk back to the golf cart and drive by 😂
been going to mission trails for years, and things have gotten much better this year after new ownership, but man it was going wayyyy down hill around 2022. no grass and you could guarantee your cart would die halfway through the round.
I found a course that will hands down be the worst you’ve ever played!!! Castle Creek Country Club in Escondido has 2.4 stars on google! (Literal dirt fairways)
Disheveled and unmaintained would be an understatement. Please review! Great video as always 🤙
Next time you're rolling through Texas check out runaway bay. It's a gem.
im in the uk , played one course where my club faces needs 'work' after playing . Obviously the course was laid over land fill taking 'chunks' out of my irons . Would love to play any of the courses you reviewed today . Think you hinted that its the player not the course , bad round , carnt be 'me' , must be the course !! Keep up the good work :)
Hey Mr short game, i love your channel. I think u should do a video of you playing Concord golf club in Chattanooga TN. It is terrible golf course and i think it would be fun
I know the first course was having some die off with its Bermuda, but honestly the lay out of the course actually looked pretty decent. Definitely some potential there. We have a course near me that similar to the last course has slightly shaggier fairways. I will say when we get drought in the summer that courses fairways arent burned out, the pace of play is actually much better since bad golfers have an easier time hitting the ball since its "up", and the course is usually in great shape. I dont think slightly longer fairways are really a bad thing in the public space if it keeps the course conditions a bit better.
