@@thegreat1548 I guess but there was also less cameras so we see and hear a lot more. There were a lot of cowards back then too but they fly under the radar. Honestly I can't say coward in the sport of boxing cuz to get in the ring ur already a certain caliber but yk what I mean. Not every fighter was built like that. Old days the stars got all the talk and buzz and regular athletes flew under the radar big time.
Like in NBA Wilt Chamberlain a beast old toughness etc etc but in comparison the league was way softer then him but we don't talk about the league being undertalented. Same situation here, top heavyweights from today's era I have no doubt can go toe to toe with some of these guys for real. And if ur in amateur boxing and u see some of these up and coming fighters , they can def compete bro

Deontay Wilder can knock a horse off its feet just as hard if not even harder than Earnie Shavers and we also had a pretty few very good decent HWs in the last 10 years. The thing is, the sport evolved in a way that sometimes it's too technical and it's sometimes difficult to gauge what are these boxers made of. This was before Mike. When mike came around, notice in interviews Ali's attitude with Tyson. With other great legends sitting and talking Loud mouth old dude was like "Everybody in this room takes mike Tyson in their prime" Ali instantly even through his disease and off camera Ali says "Speak for yourself". Or when Mike meets Ali on an interview and although Ali was getting slow in vocal response it was like they were both nervous, even was asked who would win, he instantly points at Tyson. Then goes on his normal stuff like "But i was so fast, but if he hit me. ..... ZZzzzz." Ali knew what prime Mike was. Mike worshipped Muhammad cause they were both top tier in styles built to impress not just win. Nobody ever throws mike a bone but Ali did and never hesitated to talk over someone in that response.

Even prime Holyfield said 40 year old Foreman punches were like getting hit by bricks and couldn’t even KO an old Foreman. This just shows why they called Ali generation of boxers the golden era of boxing. Prime Ali would destroy prime Tyson. He was just being humble towards Mike.

Sonny legit took a dive under 1min in the first round. There were definitely huge bets on Sonny despite his age and Ali's skill, even Ali joked about it. He talked about "how fast he was and at that moment he hit Sonny, everyone blinked. So they needed to hold their eyes open to see the KO" LOL He also didn't get up when he could have. The ring magazine is irrelevant, they’re the most incompetent, biased boxing publication to ever exist. ESPN is what matters, not “the ring”…. Tyson ended careers and knocked dudes into another dimension. He hit Michael Johnson harder than Earnie Shavers ever hit ANYONE in his career. Johnson was out cold for minutes. Shavers and Deontay Wilder are the most devastating one punch knockout artists in HW history. But not necessarily the greatest finishers. Larry Holmes and Bernardo Mercado both got off the deck to stop Shavers. Ron Lyle also was heavily knocked down by Shavers in 1975 but came back to kayo him. Tex Cobb and Ron Stander survived his bombs to stop Shavers. Even Roy "Tiger" Williams had Shavers exhausted and all but out on his feet in 1976. Ref gave Earnie an eight count and he roared back to kayo the durable, steel-chined Williams. Jimmy Young was kayoed early by Shavers in about 1973. But in 1974 the slick boxing Young held Shavers to a draw. A bout most ringside observers thought Young should have won. Not to mention his being blown away by Jerry Quarry in the 1st round in 1973 then losing to the unheralded Bob Stallings by decision in 1974. Shavers had brutal power and tons of heart. But as a finisher he is not in the same league as the great ones like Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Liston, Frazier, Foreman. He did go 15 rounds with a shot Ali to his credit losing a close but comprehensive 15-round decision.
