    Trading #8 in a weak draft, to a team that essentially gave up two unprotected firsts in ‘30 and ‘31, who have a good chance of being out of their title window by that time, sounds good to me. Having potential lottery picks in the heart of Victor’s prime will be great for the team. And if we want we can trade them. I’m happy with Castle too

    Another year of "we'll see" Brian. His track record isn't giving me alot of confidence. Until proven otherwise, giving up an 8th overall for no immediate return is completely idiotic when youre already a lottery team.(inb4 "it was a weak draft" excuse) okay I know what everyone's ASSUMING is the spurs are using these picks to trade for a good player, a star. But who the hell currently is looking to offload said player(s) for picks half a decade down the road?! I think to walk away with only 1 player when you had two picks in the top 10, and having clear needs in the current roster is a jackass move. So six years from now, you can definitely know where Minnesota will pick in the draft? Interesting. I am not sure what is for supper, but you know who will be available for the Spurs with the pick and swap they get in six years. Wow! You need to go to Vegas and get rich.
      Just for the record, which of the wonderful choices at #8 would you have made to impact the Spurs in 2024-25? This is a weak draft. Once you to beyond Terjane Salaun, there was just not a lot of superior talent in it.

    He’s made it clear they’d prefer to be flexible - they want picks and cap space. They didn’t love anyone in this draft, they probably wanted Rissacher but weren’t prepared to overpay for him, and they probably liked Salaun but he went early at 6. They still don’t want to rush the Wemby build unnecessarily. Next year’s draft will be much stronger and they have like 4 first round picks, if they underperform they will use them, if they over perform they may package some for a Garland level PG. This is the correct strategy.

    People are upset but remember how we all celebrated getting two 1st rd picks from the Hawks for Dejounte? The Spurs literally just did that but for a player that hasn't even played a single NBA game. Yes those picks are from 6+ yrs from now but what people don't understand is that Minnesota traded away the vast majority of their future for Gobert. They have a grand total of ONE future 1st rd pick (2028) all the way to 2031. Wanna how much 1st rd picks the Spurs have in that same time frame? TWELVE!
    In the year 2031 ANT will be 29, KAT will be 34, and Gobert will be 38. With Minnesota not having anymore future draft capital, it's going to be extremely hard for them to improve that roster through anymore trades and they are going to ge f**ked hard by the CBA since they're going to have to start paying for their players, they are already in the 2nd apron as is so I imagine they're going to have to let go of some of their core via free agency at some point. Those 2030 and 2031 draft picks are looking mighty juicy already.
    Also, DO NOT think that the Spurs will simply just have to wait til 2030 to start using those picks! I am fairly sure that they will trade for a top 10 player somewhere around 2026 and they will use some of their future draft picks to get that player. Spurs can now outbid pretty much the entire rest of the league say if Giannis, Luka, or Jokic ever becomes disgruntled and wants out. The future is very bright!

    People like to point to Ants age when saying this move was bad. Name one time in Timberwolves history where they've contended for a 7 year stretch. I'll wait. Their front office is incapable of sustaining a championship caliber team for that long. They blew 5 first round picks on Rudy who will be a bench piece at best, or retired by then. Same logic applies to Kat. They only have one first round pick, and the pick swap (worst) until 2031.
    These picks will likely not convey to us, but using them in trades as a means of keeping Atlanta picks is a way better approach than having a 6'1 160 lb defensive liability as a PG.

    • @aspleen1102
      @aspleen1102 2 месяца назад

      When you have Naz Reid you don't need KAT
      When you're #1 on D with *and* without Gobert, you don't need Gobert.
      And remember Spurs just gave up a great young piece to the 22 years old Ant's team. I'd be very surprised if Twolves are not contender in 2030. I don't say they'll be the 1st seed every year, but draft pick #20 to #30 are just bad weak pick even on a great draft year.
      No one now the future but what is the most probable knowing all that?...

    • @Yahurr
      @Yahurr 2 месяца назад

      @aspleen1102 Pointing out how little of an impact the guy your franchise blew its load to obtain isn't going to sway my opinion of the timberwolves. With the way the new CBA is set up you need draft capital to bring in affordable talent, & avoid the 2nd/3rd apron. I don't care if you have prime jordan, or even better, Wembanyama. Under the new CBA one first round pick in the next 7 years will not equate to long term sucess. & it isn't a question of what the picks convey to, it's a question of will other GMs value the picks of a franchise with a history of perpetually fucking up.

    Matas Buzelis and Cody Williams were still available at 8th. Or they could have picked Nikola Topic and make him sit out the upcoming season. I know that they missed out on Tidjane Salaun, but they could have done something with that pick. They basically handed it to the Wolves for free.

      We have to see what he does with those 1st rounders. These days, the players price has been ridiculous. You pay guys like Rudy Gobert, who isnt even superstar for 8 1st round picks while guys like Bridges are priced at 5 1st picks. Those 1st round picks will come in handy in upcoming trades esp in 25-26 when real big name FA comes off the books (like Tatum, not Garland or Young). We also freed up some cap space. Apparently Spurs are not looking to upgrade in 24 in fast manner, so we have to wait and see how this plays out.

    Only annoying thing, Wright acts like he knows the process of how to build a championship team, he has a lot of work to do. I love Castle because he seems more talented than our other guards, but we do have a lot of 6'5"ish guards, small when you compare to elite teams. Wesley, Johnson, Vasaell, Branham, sid, all smaller wings, and one of those guys we invested in just lost a year of real development time, not sure why we keep drafting smaller guards, Primo, Walker, and all the guys we have now.
