What do you think of Smart Lipo's? Good or Bad for the hobby? Check out the D300 Smart Charger and G-Tech range of batteries here: www.gensace.de/g-tech! See you on the next one! 💯👍😎
@@beyondRC Sorry to be inspecific. With normal packs I meant Gens Ace packs with normal balance connectors. Sure there are other much cheaper, but that is another story to cover. I did my research and know very good why are they cheaper. :)
Nothing beats a 7.62 NATO'S rounds rambo belted feed machine gun ammo case from an old army stock surpluses supplier to charge your lipos packs in for peace of mind in my opinion. 👍😎
The problem is the proprietary design of these Smart connectors and protocols that the batteries, ESC, radios and chargers use to talk to each other. The RC community needs an open-standard for these systems that don't result in vendor lock-in.
My first pair of batteries were some Spektrum Smart batteries. I had no problem going from those to a Zeee Power 6s for my Fireteam when the time came. I don't see any issue with someone starting on smarts.
Personally I love smart lipos! They make charging my batteries and my son's batteries extremely easy so that we can focus on what the hobby is really all about. Which is also in my opinion the time that I get to spend with my son! However when I started the RC hobby I also started with non-smart batteries for my cars. I'll be honest it really isn't that hard to figure out. all the information you need to be able to charge your battery safely and efficiently should be either on the box it came in or the battery itself. So after you do it once or twice it becomes a repetitive process from there on out. Love the video! Information is sometimes the best medicine.
Love lipos but when you start to dont have time to play and forgot to charge then the battery will be unusable.. money goes down the drain... Hope for new breakthrough in battery tech
I love smart lipos. I take advantage of knowing the health of my battery & how much usage I have on it. I do not use the brand you have in your video how ever I do use spectrum G2.
For user friendlyness Traxxas has it right with the built in balance lead, if only they weren't so bloody expensive especially for people here in the UK
I don't get what all the fuss about this topic is. Some people act like this was the stick-shift versus automatic discussion. I mean - of course anyone into this hobby should learn to charge their LiPo batteries - but similar to Traxxas system that makes is easier for younger kids to charge the battery safely, now Gens Ace came out with their version. To me - as long as a smart battery can be charged with non-smart charger (I have 2 Gens Ace non smart chargers), than I am fine with the added features. I am actually considering to get one 2S 5000 mAh together with the Imars Mini (as I would be able to use that charger even in our EV when out and about with a separate Laptop power supply what is pretty cool)
It seems like buying lipo’s is a hit or miss type thing not really dictated by $. But it doesn’t pay to buy cheap. But what is the definition of cheap? Price? Quality? Probably both & how long they last also is very important I’ve had good batteries that cost over$100 go bad & it’s not a good feeling. I’m using Gens Ace more & more. # 1 I never ever leave lipo’s charging when not around. I’m always right there. Use common sense & you’ll be ok but sometimes unfortunately you have to find out for yourself. But eventually it becomes a routine.
250 sized Quads & Helis have run G/A for 2 yrs ,they balance great & still look brand new . Now , I stopped here to see if big MHA & big $$ would be worthwhile purchase. Both Vendettas running Zeee and their ok but all its reviews seen are contraversial on that brand and not the case with G/A packs . Crap & dang you !! . Hitting checkout in minutes . Oh, Ali moved out of that flat , long ago .😂
Do these smart packs only work with the smart chargers or can they be used with a 3rd party just done manually. Sorry for the prolly silly question, just getting into the hobby and have only been using the packs that come with the rtr
Like you I have the vorteks, and have the transmitter with battery level indicator, and was gonna get the spectrum battery and then realised that you need to buy the charger??? NO JUST NO I may be wrong but it seems a stripe off, what say you mate ?
yeh no i get you totally. I guess it really comes down to budget. These smart batteries are almost always more expensive than your typical zeee, cnhl etc..
Smart charging is the way to go,,, to me it is a no brainer. There is not need to understand the manual way of charging these batteries for anyone if they were all smart. Handling of the batteries is more important and that should be a standard for anyone using Lipo batteries. The thing I think needs tackling more is firming up the standard and quality of the batteries themselves. So many people claim cheap is not worth it because safety, longevity or whatever. Well, if a battery does not comply with a fixed standard making it safe then it should not be on sale, simple as that. I think people in the hobby who make coments such as "you shouldn't use these batteries if you don't understand how to manually charge them" should just stop and think. RC is a hobby for everyone and not just for hardcore hobby folk who want to preserve the black art narrative,, its just silly. Nail the standards and make it as safe and simple as possible for everyone, it is of course the only way to go.
No one is born knowing and how many RTR rc’s that come with a LiPo have enough guff to inform the buyer about charging and discharging them properly ? I bet it’s slim 😂
Turned me away when I started at the beginning of the year. Watched a couple RUclips videos on how to charge properly. Good to go 3 batteries for the price of 1
HIGHLY doubt it. I've been in the hobby for over a decade and still cringe at the price of high end (non-smart) batteries. I'll spend $200 on axle housings in a heartbeat, but $100+ for a battery? No thank you, especially when the information on how to care for traditional lipos is widely available and free thanks to the internet.

G-Tech costs exactly the same as normal packs. Check before making the video.
@@RCracingSLO incorrect. I can pick up some zeee, cnhl etc of same capacity for way way less. Check before commenting.

@@RCracingSLO that’s cool bro 😎 have a great day 😚

I found learning about Lipos one of the most confusing things when I first started. The C ratings baffled me aswell.
It can get very confusing!

I need some 4S 3200 100c soft packs bad, These look really good 👍🏻

these batteries can be used with any charger but the gens ace smart chargers will recognise and set all the parameters for you.

Does the Gtech plug work on standard JST Chargers as i wanted to get a battery but im not sure if its compatible
yes :)

Very slim.
Is a beginner really gonna spend that kind on money on just a lipo?
Yes 100% as if offers ease of use
