  • Growing food in your garden is only one part of the journey. When the summer produce starts rolling into the kitchen you need to have a plan! Eating it all fresh is a valiant idea but sooner our later your success in the garden is going to result in a surplus of delicious food that you will want to preserve to enjoy later. Over the years we have canned, dehydrated, frozen or freeze dried much of our garden abundance.
Canning can be an intimidating project to start but is a great way to preserve foods that last a long time on the shelf. In this video we discuss some canning basics while making a batch of blueberry currant jam.

It's so, so, so much easier to get a scale and measure in grams. That way, you can measure each ingredient at once, accurately, and much more quickly. No measuring spoons or cups. Just zero out the bowl and then add however much currents. Zero out the bowl and add the same amount of sugar. Super fast, very accurate, and a lot less clean up. It's just a matter of getting familiar with the concept, but once you do, your culinary life will be much improved!

You are right! It is very easy and very exact. I used this method to make a batch of homemade fertilizer just last week, and for lots of different reasons and recipes. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it this time 🤦‍♀️Thanks for the reminder and the good advice!
