    Watching Mahito’s bittersweet relationship with the Heron truly made me understand the reflection of Miyazaki and Suzuki’s relationship. There are struggles, they stress each other out and annoy each other, as well they laugh and amuse each other. It is what you call a true honest, loyal and genuine friendship.

    I was balling my eyes out at the end of the movie my first watch. I could see this was Miyazakis way of handing his legacy off to the new generation. Im crying again typing this.
    I found the other part I loved about this work was it had nods to all of the other movies. Theres a nostalgia in everything as if hes taking us back through everything we loved.
    I cry tears of happiness because Ghibli movies have made me into the kind loving woman I am today. These movies were comforts to me when the world didnt understand me. They reinforced the future I wanted to live, the person I wanted to be, even if my family and friends didnt understand.
    I love the symbolism in his work and I can’t wait to watch it again. I would love a dvd release with a commentary from Miyazaki and Suzuki. Learning who each character represents for them and any other tid bits.
    Thank you for bringing this magic into our lives 🙇🏼‍♀️🙏🏻✨💕

      Even the same can be said with _The Wind Rises_ and _My Neighbor Totoro_ who act as semi-autobiographies of Miyazaki’s life. In fact, It wouldn’t surprise me if _Boy and the Heron_ acts as a companion piece to _The Wind Rises_ and _My Neighbor Totoro_ since all three films were set during WW2 and Post-WW2

    When I went to watch the Boy and the Heron during its first premiere in Theaters, I couldn’t shake off a intuitive feeling throughout the whole movie that this was somehow connected to Hayao Miyazaki’s personal childhood and life.
    I kept reprimanding and thinking to myself, “No that’s not true, it’s just your imagination, it’s probably cause you saw a video of his personal life a few days ago on youtube, stop thinking about this stuff and just enjoy the movie”
    But after I finished the movie, and saw his name at the end of the credits, I for some reason felt that that random Intuition had been confirmed.
    Even though there was nothing to support that belief.
    A few months after the movie aired, I read a random news article that described how The Boy and The Heron was a film detailing Miyazaki’s own personal experiences and livelihood.
    I can’t tell you how that made me feel.

    In the event If _The Boy and the Heron_ does win the Oscar for Best Animated feature not only would it be the 2nd Anime, Internationally animated and Traditional Hand-Drawn film along with Miyazaki’s second Oscar but it would be the first PG-13 animated film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and be a huge changer and reminder to everyone that Animation is a Medium and Artform not a "Genre for Kids"
    On top of that, considering the film won the Golden Globe last month and with the Annie and the BAFTA for Best Animated feature coming up and if _Boy and the Heron_ wins those awards including the BAFTA, then it’s more than likely it will have a high chance the _Boy and the Heron_ will win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, as long as the Academy voters doesn’t pull a "Big Hero 6" or a "Toy Story 4" and give it to a Pixar or Disney animated film again because of their bias towards Pixar and Disney.
    Personally, the BAFTA for Best Animated Feature are for the most part the best indicators on Animated Films winning the Oscar and literally they are 80-85% correct most of the time especially with the previous BAFTA Best Animated feature winners in the past 3-4 years going to win the Academy Award for Best Animated feature (e.g. _Soul, Encanto, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio)._

      Elemental isn't strong enough to win, but Spidey 2 might give Heron grief.

    • @EChacon
      @EChacon 7 месяцев назад +12

      @@Daniel-kw5ig Then again outside of Toy Story 3-4 winning the Oscar their hasn’t been *ANY* animated sequel/franchise that went on to win the Oscar, _Shrek_ and _The Incredibles_ won the Oscar, but their sequels (Shrek 2 and Incredibles 2) didn’t go on to win the Oscar with the _Incredibles 2_ losing to _Into the Spider-Verse._ So again _Boy and the Heron_ won the Golden Globe beating _Across the Spider-Verse_ last month and with the Annie and the BAFTA for Best Animated feature coming up and *IF* _Boy and the Heron_ wins those awards especially the BAFTA, then it’s more than likely it will have a high chance the _Boy and the Heron_ will win the Academy Award.
      Literally, the animated films that go on to win the BAFTA for Best Animated Feature wound up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and they are 80-90% accurate most of the time, considering in the last 2-3 years, _Soul, Encanto_ and _Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio_ which won the BAFTA for Best Animated Feature end up winning the Oscar.

    • @behindtheanimatorsdesk
      @behindtheanimatorsdesk 7 месяцев назад +3

      Well I do hope you are right from your deep analysis, Miyazaki deserves this Oscar in every way. He’s a genius filmmaker, possibly one of the greatest alive. He has profound storytelling, world building and extraordinary creativity. I would be so disappointed if it does not win, but Spider-Verse is still a high chance I believe even though it’s a sequel. Like you said, they could pull a ‘Toy Story 4’ we don’t know. Just because they have not given the award to much sequels doesn’t mean Spider-Verse will not get the Oscar. But form your analysis, yeah we could presume that however they might not give the award to it. But we aren’t for definite, I hope with all my heart that The Boy And The Heron wins. The greatest filmmaker has just came out of retirement to create this masterpiece.

    • @EChacon
      @EChacon 7 месяцев назад +9

      @@behindtheanimatorsdeskThe only way I could see _Across the Spider-Verse_ win the Oscar is if:
      A. It wins the best animated feature at the BAFTA’s over _Boy and the Heron_
      Or
      B. If _Across the Spider-Verse_ doesn’t win the next two awards (Annie and BAFTA) the Academy voters could pull a "Big Hero 6" and "Toy Story 4" and caused the film to win. Which is the same situation what happened to Big Hero 6 and Toy Story 4 respectively all two films didn’t win the Golden Globe, the Annie and especially the BAFTA but wound up winning the Oscar, which could happen to _Across the Spider-Verse_ in the event if it wins.
      But outside the _Toy Story_ franchise which won Best Animated Feature through Toy Story 3-4, their hasn’t been *ANY* animated sequel that has won the Oscar, _Shrek_ and _The Incredibles_ won the Oscar, yet their sequels (Shrek 2 and Incredibles 2) didn’t go on to win the Oscar with the _Incredibles 2_ losing to _Into the Spider-Verse._ So again with the Annie’s and the BAFTA’s for Best Animated feature coming up and *IF* _Boy and the Heron_ wins those awards then their is a good possibility that _Boy and the Heron_ could win the Oscar. And as I said 14 of the 17 animated films that won the BAFTA (except LEGO Movie, Kubo, Klaus) end up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated feature which has been the case for the previous films in the last 2-3 years (e.g. Soul, Encanto, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio) and they are 82% accurate compared to the Annie’s, Golden Globes and Critic’s Choice Awards.

    • @EChacon
      @EChacon 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@behindtheanimatorsdeskWell the Annie’s and BAFTA’s happened this past weekend and although _Across the Spider-Verse_ won the Annie Award, THE BAFTA award for Best Animated Feature went to the _Boy and the Heron_ considering the previous Animated films that had won both a Golden Globe and the BAFTA respectively (except Zootopia; which only won a Golden Globe and Annie) then their is a high chance _Boy and the Heron_ could win the Oscar.

    The design for the heron is so wickedly beautiful. 😂 the heron to me is this wizard alien that actually likes to mess around with humans. I love the boy, the boy is alive and fill of life inside that even when he shows no emotions on the outside, he's still perfectly comprehensible. Every character in Hayao Miyazaki's work is so full of life and passions inside, even characters who appear once on screen has this aura about them that is organic, curious, vigorous. His characters are so real and rich I feel them as having a life outside of the film too. 😂

    I mean, it is very good movie once again from Miyazaki, but I don’t understand most people who act like it is perfect in every sense. Miyazaki have great imagination and drawing skills to match them, but he has problems with plot structure design and pacing. Most of his stories follow a basic narrative of a hero’s (or heroine’s) journey and he doesn’t really use any postmodern fictional devices. Like I said, it is a very good movie, don’t get wrong; yet it is too personal and abstract. Also, in simple terms Miyazaki himself would like to put: it is not that enjoyable. Not everyone has to be so much invested to his personal life.

      @shefalichow7917 I don't understand what you mean by "self-indulgence." Is it not essential for a director to leave their fingerprints over the movie they're telling? Should a director not be able to tell a personal story out of passion and enjoyment?
      The movie is literally based on numerous aspects of his life, so the whole "self-indulgence" thing is such an odd complaint.
