Social Distortion and Rancid was the closest thing that sounded like the Clash that I know of
Finding a band that sounds like The Clash is hard to do. But yeah, Social D and Rancid are close. In the last couple of years, I fell in love with Joe and the Mescaleros. Same Clash vibe, but even deeper in the roots vibe.
Zach Carpenter True Zach as I too really got into Joe and the Mescaleros,but anything with Joe in it was pretty good..well lol,maybe not "Earthquake Weather",cause I think Joe put that record out to piss off CBS Records cause he was still under contract and owed them a record...But such was Joe Strummer the ultimate rebel,lol.
What's strange, even growing up a punk skater kid in the 80s and 90s, listening to Dead Kennedys, The Ramones, Bad Brains, Fugazi, etc, I somehow missed out on a lot of the early punk bands. I didn't really "discover" The Clash until after Joe was dead.
If you're not already familiar, check out Left Behind. They have the same energy as Rancid, but a lot more of the reggae/ ska syncopation thing that The Clash did so damned well.

My favourite song of all time, They Reminesce Over You by Pete Rock and CL Smooth, I heard the instrumental when I was playing NBA Street 8 or 9 years ago and have been in love since. First time I 'really' started listening to Rancid, was when I started working in a kitchen and a couple of the dudes I used to drink with were big into Rancid.
My life is that much more complete after skanking to this song at Montebello Rockfest.

This song and video... the night it played on 120 mins on MTV it woke up a whole world of Punk rockers that were just waiting for somthing...back then we only had what we were shown in most areas... its not like now so when this video played that saturday night I said thats the music that fits with my life that I have already been living

@JrzyPunx I do remember some longer, or more shots of the scooters with hoodies, but all the old b&w rancid vids seem to blend together at times. jesus how many vhs tapes of old headbangers ball and early 90s punk me and my bros had along with skate vids would take up a trohpy room. now its at my fingertips.

bones27 Op Ivy and "life" got nothing to do with it. Rancid definitely tried to be like the Clash, it's not hard to see at all. Just because you like them doesn't change that.
There are probably about a hundred thousand bands who "tried so hard to emulate The Clash."
Trying so hard to emulate somebody else ain't worth a hill of beans. Succeeding at it and creating something that people want is what matters. Rancid did. Whats the fuckin' problem?

i remember the first time i saw rancid on mtv's 120 minutes back in 1994... haha i was just a lil kid and crazy about green day and they were dropping green day's name left and right... It was love at first sight! I have been a huge rancid fan ever since!

@ahhhitsrob I understand that. It usually takes me some time to listen to a band to really get into them. I've been dabbling in a lot of metal, but punk has really caught my ear. Rancid is awesome. I've absolutely loved The Misfits for a while, though. (Graves Era Misfits)

I was once at a carnival and they had this one thing called an anvil lift. It was to see if people could lift up an anvil (as the name implies). We had 5 guys plus me tying to lift it and we only got a little bit of it off the ground. You could say it was pretty heavy, at least I thought it was heavy until I heard the bass in this song.
