My mother and father were both from Louisiana and looking at that Buffalo fish reminded me so much of my now deceased parents, every Friday momma would fry daddy’s buffalo fish along with smothered potatoes. You are so blessed to have your mother still with you. God bless the both of you.
We grew up on fried fish and spaghetti for Friday or Saturday. Cooked in vegetable oil and French or garlic bread sometimes salad too. Good southern goodness.
I grew up on this fish and everything you just said is the same way my grandparents did. I couldn't eat it without someone picking the bones out until like 12 or 13 yrs old🤣😂 Chef Jeffrey I drive over an hr to a fish market that sells fresh Buffalo fish when I get the taste for it! The market has existed since I was a child, thank you for this memory this morning. Good times❤
Your channel should be Old School Soul Food Memories. Your recipes usually take me back to when times seemed simpler for me. We didn’t have tartar sauce either.
You bought back so many memories for me here in South Mississippi…catfish, perch, & buffalo! I hated buffalo because I thought one of those tiny bones was gonna end my life. My grandmother kept balling up bread and making me eat it to push the bone down.😂 My kids love picking out bones. Just give me the perch sandwich and a crispy bones of the catfish and it Friday Fish Day! Thank you for great content, recipes, and memories!
My father would bring us buffalo fish from the fish market when we lived in Lorain, Ohio. It was a good tasting fish with large bones. I can’t get it now in Alabama. 😊 ENJOY !!!
Hard to find buffalo. Worth the effort. Got a bone stuck in my tonsil as a teenager. Pulled it out and kept eating. 😁 Thanks for sharing. (Story Time With Miss Evelyn) 📚📚😊
Good morning Chef Jeff. I grew up on perch, buffalo, and gar. Started eating catfish as an adult. The bones didn’t stop me from eating them. You learned at a young age to squeeze the fish for bones. It would take me all night to eat to so I wouldn’t swallow a bone. I love watching you cook. My parents are from Monroe, LA and soul food was always on the menu. Thank you for sharing. God Bless you.

We didn't know anything about any fish mix but we had corn meal. We scored them and dropped them in that hot grease. Hot sauce and onions out of the garden. Mom gave my sisters the rib parts. Some people only took the rib parts and threw away the rest. Commercial fish amen only sale the ribs very high 💯💯💯💯👍🏽
Most of the old schools. Things you do remind me of my dad he would have loved that deep fryer Hilo real old-school got there deep-fried cast iron skillet on Friday night thanks for bringing back good memory God is good good all the time good blessings to you old school
Buffalo is my favorite fish. My Grandfather had a cabin on the Lake of the Ozarks. He would get into his fishing boat and set a trot line up with some milk jugs and thick twine of some sort. The hooks were on a string 18” (?) or so below the line. He would catch these huge, huge buffalo fish. They had ribs that were huge and yes there were still bones in them that you had to watch out for, but I don’t remember them being a huge problem. My Grandmother (sweet like your Mom) would fry them up. We would have fresh corn on the cob, cold slaw and homemade cornbread. How wonderful those times were. I miss the lake, the fish, swimming and of course my family that is gone now. Thank you for the video and bringing back such fond memories.
Morning. You brought back memories from cleaning fish to eating bread if you swallowed a bone. I’m originally from St Louis so we grew up on Buffalo, Carp, Catfish, Jack Salmon.
