      Sorry for the inconvenience. The pinyin is designed to be like that so that students can get used to not rely on pinyin and be able to read Chinese characters. Pinyin is a great tool to help students remember the pronunciation when they first learn a word, but characters are the real written form of the language. We want the Pinyin to serve like the foot note in a book, it's there if you need it, but it's not the main content.

      I find this approach useful, it's easy to accidentally rely on Pinyin too much. Making the hanzi more prominent definitely draws the eye.
