    That's all the panthers have been working on all year. They weren't good at it at first but they kept doing it and losing games then when everyone was healthy it started to work now they do it better than anyone ❤ let's go cats!

      Fortunately for them the NHL playoff system allows teams to stumble for most of the regular season. Not sure why anyone would buy a ticket for a regular season game.

    You guys explained that perfectly

  • @Matthew-cw3gn
    @Matthew-cw3gn Год назад +8

    PoMo came ready with the perfect line combos to match the Leafs.
    Verhaeghe - Barkov - Duclair
    Barkov is one of the only guys in the league who can win battles with Tavares on the cycle, and he's been deployed like a third defenseman in the d-zone. Meanwhile, Verhaeghe and Duclair have the speed and puck skills to keep the ice spread and be ready for an immediate, efficient zone exit while Barkov catches up.
    Cousins - Bennett - Tkachuk
    All three of these guys are relentless finishing checks, and since the Toronto D is so weak on the breakout, all it takes is one of these guys bullrushing the puck carrier to force an error. Cousins is not a second line caliber forward, but it works when the mission is O-Zone chaos, and he's playing with an elite winger and playoff performer at center.
    Luostarinen - Lundell - Reinhart
    PoMo experimented during the season and figured out that Lundell really needs to play center, but Eetu doesn't miss a beat from the wing. Lundell and Luostarinen both are defensive hounds, and when they get sicced on the Leafs' bottom 4, they easily force turnovers. And Reinhart is at his best feasting on weaker opposition with guys who can finish his setups.

    • @Matthew-cw3gn
      @Matthew-cw3gn Год назад +3

      And to reiterate, these lines are tailored for the Leafs.
      Barkov is playing with the two fastest forwards on the team because he's so low in the d-zone containing Tavares, that they need guys who can shoot out of a cannon to keep the Leafs D from pinching too much.
      Cousins is up on the second line to maximize the pressure it can impose on the forecheck, but Luostarinen can do that too (that's been a great second line before). But if Reinhart needs to be on the third line (because he's too slow to play with Barkov this series) then the third line LW should have enough offensive skill to work with Reinhart, which is why Luostarinen is put there.
      People were saying that Florida just matched really well against Boston, which is why they won, but it's more Maurice knowing how to strategize and leverage his options properly.

      totally agree. PoMo finished what Q began. Finished how it should to be in his vision, of course

      And Lundell has a ton of hockey IQ for a second year guy. Plays like a 5-10 year guy. He's gonna be great in a few years I hope the panthers keep him for a while

    These are some of the basic principles of the game...what not realky pointed out is the missed assignments. You learn very early, when you don't have possession of the puck, pick up your man! What's also not talked about is who wants the puck more! The intangibles (heart/passion) win games and Championships.

    Pressuring in the O zone with hard forechecking makes for loose pucks, they've been opportunistic on these situations, and their scoring timely goals, it doesn't matter who has more shots, it's the team that buries their shots, Florida's getting the W's, 5 in a row in the playoffs is amazing.

      And, just like the Blues, they stumbled through the regular season. Not sure why the NHL allows so many teams into the playoffs. Makes the regular season irrelevant.

    Might be time to start asking questions about Giordano on D. Yes he's a solid veteran presence but with such an aggressive and fast team like Florida, he needs to be protected. & it's not like you can blame Justin Holl anymore.
    Leafs actually have been playing better than the Tampa series, but a combination of D man mistakes and Bob playing like its 2019 is why they're down 0-2. I still think this one goes 6 or 7

    Fourchecking has nothing to do with the Leafs losing. Get over it. Top players need to score and stop giving up the puck. Simple 101

      right. it only cost Boston their series and 2 games for Toronto, so it's definitely not the reason.

      it has EVERYTHING to do with the leafs losing. And a good portion of the reason why boston lost. I dont think you understand just how much relentless, tenacious forecheck forces turnovers and errors. Sure, the leafs need to bury more of their chances, but a large reason the panthers are up 2-0 is because of all of the mistakes they are forcing their opposition into.
