  • A quick run through of the Pro-Ject Elemental turntable. I cover lots of the concerns that potential buyers may be weighing up in choosing a record player. A look at the connections, plus points and downsides, but all in all a great piece of kit for your vinyl revival!
I got a great deal on this and an MM phone pre-amp from Richer Sounds, Liverpool UK.

Yeah I liked it at first, but it's really flimsy, there is no cover so it gets dust all the time and the the stupid string is annoying to keep putting back on. It sounds good but I wouldn't buy it again because it's so annoying to use.

I'm so glad to see you bought a very good starter deck ( great decks ) , and not one of those cheap plastic rubbish , well done to you for your video , great review , happy listing

Wow, a decent review of a turntable, so many reviews on here seem to be too pretentious and flashy from what I've seen, nice one 👍

Thanks for the demo, mate! I have one on order. And despite the mixed reviews I hope that the one I receive does not come with any major issues! (knock on wood). Wondering if the head shell will work with Audio Technica cartridges?Cheers!

Great review I have been looking for a record deck for a while now and come across your video why looking at reviews. I really liked the look of this record player so order the one that comes with the USB port. It is very different to the ounces I have used in the past they had a lot more switches and dillies. So I really hope I can get on with it being so simple & just plug and play.

+Islander 101 I think you'll love it. It takes a little time to get used to not accidentally pulling off the drive belt, it still happen

+good friends to know. The model that I have has a build in phono so does that mean I don't need a amp? Also what type of speakers can I use?

I wanted to buy the Audio Technica AT-LP3 but the folks at WhatHIFI stated in their review that the tonearm lifting is fully automatic. This would be bad for records that has secret tracks. So that's why I'm looking at this one.

Thank you very much for the review! I'm considering buying a record player for the first time and this is one of my candidates. Most of the reviews on the net write good things about it. I'm considering buying the USB version which is a cheaper alternative than buying a separate Pro-Ject Record Box plus the player, but i wonder how much of a difference it makes in sound? I would like to be able to digitize records, since obviously i can't carry the player around in work or in the car. :)

+István Nagy Hi Istvan. If you're anything like me you will have already bought a turntable! I can't remember if the USB version has a seperate audio output or if all passes through USB. For me I would definately want a phono audio output in order to plug directly into my amp without a PC and this would require a pre-amp stage (which ay be built into that USB model). If so I should think the sound quality will be pretty much the same, maybe even better because there is less chance of interference on the very low signal wire between turntable and preamp. Hope this makes sense. Will

good friends to know Hi! :) Thanks for the answer. Yes, in the end I've decided to go with a vintage Technics SL-D303 and upgrade it for my needs. My biggest problem with the Elemental was the missing dust cover and the fixed preamp. Vintage tables offer way better quality/price ratio and customizability, although it's not a buy and forget it option like the Elemental and have more risks.

Can I listen to hidden in label grooves that some records bring? I can't do that with mine since it's an automatic turntable. Great video! I'm convinced by it!

Fantastic review sold me on this, does this need the amp to work? I'm assuming it does And also using the amp can I then connect to any monitor?

You move the drive belt. Jesus christ, we didn't have such antiquated technology in the 70's!
Pity, I like the look of it, but that's ridiculous. Thanks for the review. Voted.

Hiya! I am looking to buy a turntable for my dad's 60th...he is a big on vinyl and has about 200 old records in a few vinyl storage cases...and the last one we had was the one that came with a a pioneer midi hifi system back in 1996....however, myself being an audiophile enthusiast for the past 6 months or so, and after having done some research, I wonder if you could tell me, which in your opinion, is better...this pro ject elemental, or there is a strong competition between the Technica atl120 and the Pioneer plx 500/1000 ....both technica and pioneer look identicaly the same...but even though they are heavily popularised by djs i can't help wonder, why do the djs like them? is the quality of their sound far superior without paying stupid prices for lets say Kronos which cost 20k and well above! becasue i am looking to buy a fair bit of my hip hop collection from the 90s which are all on cd, in vinyl. I imagine around 50 or so vinyls for myself, but i am looking at a high standard of sound, as i am quiet fussy and do have a good ear for sound, especially for songs i know very well. Speakers will play a big part too i guess, i am thinking Dali...Kef...Monitor Audio... I would love focal or B&W but i cant afford them! Any advice? By the way, i only was curious about the Pro Ject because of the designs... I prob wouldnt want to spend more than £300 on a turntable....
