Welcome to N. Carolina...... We moved here 3 years ago, totally sick and tired of So. Calif, and family here was calling us to move. The weather.... is totally crazy. We've had some wicked thunder storms in the past month, while it keeps everything green and growing, its also totally nerve wracking for those not used to it, but it also keeps everything from burning up in the summer "wild fires" that rage thru So. California. We're just northeast of Charlotte in Kannapolis. Welcome again and enjoy the Blue Ridge drive.
On our way from Baltimore to NM for Balloon Fiesta in 2019 the GPS updated saying there was a one hour and forty five minutes slow down ahead but we were still on the fastest route. A few seconds later we passed a sign saying the historic Buffalo Trace distillery was the next exit. We know nothing about BT but figured a historic distillery was better than traffic and boy am I glad we stopped! Now we have to search out buffalo cream every year 😊
I live in Frankfort, Kentucky. Buffalo Trace recently built a new still next to their 1956 still to double production in a few years, and they bought and remodeled an old brick big box store across the street as a distribution center, just a quick drive back to the distillery for bourbon sales. That building (called the Ash Building) used to be leased by state government, and my little office cubicle was in it in 1991. The building is in the floodplain and had mold problems, and was abandoned until recently.
Welcome to NC!! We are on the coastal side of the state, so too far to come out and visit. Next time you come out to this side of the state, we hope to be able to say hello!
That Buc-ee’s in TN I believe is brand new. We passed it returning home from Cade’s Cove in May and had not yet opened. Even though we love Buc-ee’s, we too would probably have had to pass with a mile long line. Unreal….
Sorry Kate you missed Buc-ee's. It just opened and the newness hasn't worn off yet. It better not have those exit lines next year, our hotel is at that one. Enjoy the Blue Ridge.
thinking that their Quality Control process ensures all the correct liquor bottles go to the distributor whom issues the bottles out to be shipped and sold at the store. No confusion that could occur if sending bottles directly from the factory. Noticed they had a Chewbacca statute at the KFC place you visited. (realized your seat belt no longer has the Chewbacca cover). Well, next time for a motorcycle ride. This summer lately has many storms but at least we're not in a drought anymore like before (lawns need mowed every week in July which is usually not the case on 'normal' years)
We really enjoyed our KFC in Port Alfred, South Africa. But when our children were young, we'd pick up a bucket and go to the local community parks. Often threw a blanket on the grass where the kids loved the picnic! Rarely eat it these days. Sad in a way.
The last time I had KFC was in Surakarta, Indonesia (Central Java). There's a bunch of KFC's there, as well as a place called "Texas Chicken". It was pretty good, and they served the meal with about a half-cup round of white rice. It's interesting to note, there were several Pizza Huts and A&W Root Beer places as well. I will admit that Indonesian food is amazing, so all of the American style fast foods paled in comparison.
I had KFC in a mall in Haifa, Israel. I was there in business and wasn’t a great fan of the local food and then saw KFC in the mall. It had been years since I had eaten it, but what a satisfying meal!
KFC back in the day in Los Angeles used to be pretty good. Not so much anymore. They use poor quality chicken and other ingredients. Its also very greasy now compared to in the 60's and 70 's. Love Buffalo Trace bourbon.
Did Buffalo Trace limit you to one bottle person and that you could not purchase it again after 90 days? That happened to me two years ago when I was lucky enough that Blanton’s was available at $64 for the bottle but it was only one bottle per person (and no line) but I could not go back and purchase another bottle until 90 days had passed. Not sure if that’s still the case when you were there.
How are you still liking the ST layout? Anything missing that would make for a more comfortable journey? I've been looking at soooo many custom builders that it seem hard to buy a "production" van with small fridge, porta-potty, etc.
We love it as it works for us. The back cargo area is open enough that we can modify what we bring to suit the journey. We prefer the small fridge as we can pack it just the way we need to. We’ve had this size fridge for over 6 years and don’t have a desire for anything bigger. I would prefer the larger / taller porta potti but I don’t want to give up the space it would take.
I worked at a kfc in the mid eighties when I was in high school. Had maybe 10 Customers a day . Maybe... I asked the owner one day how he stays in business ( very small town but next to a road that everyone used to go into Indy). He said he made all his money in the month of May. This was when the track was open every day. (Indy 500). Indiana, the track and KFC. 😂 IF i remember correctly, he would open at four in the morning in May.
@@Weretherussos Very good. We got a special they had the $20 box with fries, 4 piece chicken, nuggets and biscuits. I was fixing a part of the box that wasn't shut correctly after they handed me my order. A couple of ladies had came in just before they gave me the box and asked what specials they had. They weren't interested in the all dark special and the girl said that the box was what I had just gotten. One lady came and asked if she could see the box and I showed her and she was like "Wow" and called he friend over to see. Guess what they ordered? Keep up the videos and enjoy life.
Weather or not to take the motorcycle? 😉 We’ve seen you in every chassis and it seems to me you’re really enjoying that Ford eco boost engine. Happy travels. 😊
My first KFC experience🍗 was in Tacoma, Washington, and the fast food restaurant building, back then, was very much like the original building shown in that museum- so awesome!! 😀Thanks for sharing that and a "just chillin' " kind of adventure!!🤗🤗🏭🥚🥚🍗🍗🌧☕☕
The state ABC laws are ready ridiculous in some areas. Especially NC. There's limited access to certain rare brands. For example it's rare to see Chairman's Reserve Rum from St. Lucia. My mother's family the Barnard's still make it today.
My favorite was in Singapore. Very clean. Great chicken. The most interesting one was in a suburb of Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2018 (before anyone knew they would invade Ukraine). It was interesting because it was so packed. I mean it was solid people inside. People were pressed up against one another trying to get to the head of the line to order. It was awkward and if I wasn't so hungry I would have gone elsewhere. Very strange experience.
I haven't had KFC in a few years, I used to enjoy it a lot, especially the coleslaw. All locations closed in the city I live in but one & it's run down & dirty. Shame to see them let go like that after being a prosperous business for decades. Glad you made it there safely in all that rain.
KFC in Australia has gone to the dogs. The quality of the food has declined markedly in the continual search for increasing profits. Portions tend to be smaller and there was a lettuce shortage last year so they replaced the lettuce in their burgers with cabbage. The pictures used in advertising bear virtually no resemblance to the product you receive which is normally dripping in grease and looks like its been assembled by a blind beggar. Still the food of choice after many beers though.

Longer videos please!😊
send some of that rain to central Texas please!
We've got plenty to share

Ohhh that stuff is awesome in root beer!

Interesting - thanks for the history
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Thanks Joe and Kate for sharing. Hope you have a wonderful week...

Yeah it was crazy. Even the older Bucees in KY was packed.
@@Weretherussos Wow…it is because they have become legendary.
Welcome to NC, so much to see and do here, have fun.

Glasses for the RAIN 😂
Yep - cuts through the glare of light reflecting off the rain so you can see better / further. Should try it sometime.

No they have to do it due to blue laws. They end up having to purchase the alcohol back from the distributor at above what they sell it to them for.
Now if you had a set of Supermoto conversion wheels for the DRZ .... You could have put that on the carrier for the twisty roads!
Sold the DRZ
Awesome!
Thanks!

Sounds like fun. You could always recreate the old picnic days
Buffalo Trace just became my favorite whiskey
They make good stuff. If you can find it try Benchmark. Inexpensive and smooth. Great for mixing
The last time I had KFC was in Los Angeles about 15 years ago. It was 3/4 freeze and 1/4 chicken. Hope yours was better!
Lol, the quest for perfect health… sign me up!!! 🥃🍗
ty guys for sharing love the videos:) hope momma is doing well ...stay safe
She is, thank you!
"Spindrift" is also my favorite!🥤🥤See you guys on next video!
Good choice!

That's usually the case but sometimes if you're there long enough some :familiar" fast food joints can be fun.
I can get Blantons at my local liquor stores. 😉...for retail prices.?
I think it’s about double what they sell it for at the distillery
Kates smile is the only reason I can tolerate Joes constant coffee mentions.
I think most of the audience would agree
Agreed.

Sometimes it does the trick
I had KFC in Coos Bay, Oregon years ago. It's the story behind it that made it memorable but I only share that story in person...
You’ll have to share it with us one day
What’s up Vanlife family! Enjoy the adventure anywhere in the US. Happy trip always! We do they same traveling coast to coast. ❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏
That is awesome! Thanks
Jordan hot coffee or cold which do u like the best
Blantons is so hard to find, guess I need to take that tour. What proof do they stock?
Mash potatoes and gravy, yeeeeeah!!

Funny but smart
We recently visited the KFC in Corbin. It was really interesting and good food! Enjoyed your video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
After seeing you guys and Campervan Kevin eating KFC my hubby and I had to get some yesterday. Love your videos.
How was it?

Yeah it's one of our favorites.
I didn’t realize people still ate Kentucky Fried Chicken!
I had KFC in England many years ago. They did not clean the chicken too well as the legs still had feathers..,
That doesn't sound....right

Having twice read both of your books, I was wondering if you guys had a possible third book in mind!?
Stay safe out there 👍🏼👏🏼🖖🏼
Oh yeah - "Summer with Mom"
I would call it COFFUMPY 😂

China was similar with a long line to get in
KFC in Singapore?
Did you try the local Chicken Rice dish?

Gotta find one that's in better shape and have some more chicken!
The 2 kfc in our area burned down.suspecious isnt it?
Hungry+Coffee=Huffee
Ohh I like it
To bad you could not take the bike.... Tail of the Dragon.
We have KFC here in Bali, but I don’t recommend it.
You can't go wrong with fried chicken and bourbon.
I had KFC in Ottawa, Canada once. Instead of 11 herbs & spices it was no herbs & spices. Blandest thing I've ever had in my life.
Get a motorcycle trailer. You could have trailered the bike and then rode if weather permitted
Yep - we've been looking for one.
I had KFC in Kuwait City, Kuwait
How was it?
KFC in Tokyo
I bet that was good. I feel like Korea would be good too
Ever tried Popeyes chicken?
That van should be able to tow a trailer with your bike....
It can. Don’t have the trailer…currently looking for one

That’s sad to hear.
I had KFC in El Salvador it tasted bland . Like water. No flavor at all to me. To me the best KFC is in the US hands down.
If you make it to any Asian countries, try it there
