I've watched drain videos from 3 continents and the 3 main culprits are Pipe displacement and damage, tree roots and wet wipes. Always the wet wipes. Love your work Tony.
Even if it wasn’t my rubbish, I would have cleared the entrance if I knew you were coming out. It looked like a cotton t-shirt coming out of that drain😱 Said it before and I’ll say it again “There is no such thing as Flushable Wipes!” Another great job Tony! 👌👍
Its a never ending battle Tony. You and I both know that until they stop making wet wipes, the wipes are always going to win. It's job security. A pain in the arse but job security anyway. Good video Tony and as always, Cheers mate 👍🏻💩👍🏻👍🏻🪠
Wet wipes....what a nightmare! Even the so-called 'flushable wet wipes' are dodgy. Charge more for wet wipe blockages...that might concentrate their minds. Thanks for the video Tony.
I think that image of the wet wipes from the clogged drain (18:25) should be put on a all wet wipe packages, kind of like the warning on cigarett packages in some countries.
I cringe looking at all of the exposed and uninsulated drain lines, but I live near Buffalo, NY where our average winter nights drop to -14C and the days only get to -5C for 3+ months of the year. Those lines would freeze and break around here! The sewer lines are well below the frost line, usually 2 meters deep at a minimum. I have family who live 200 km north of me near Watertown, NY, and they regularly have lows in January & February of -20C to -35C with the highs barely reaching -15C. Your drain clearing would be uncomfortable if not impossible undef those winter conditions. Keep up the great videos. Retired pipefitter turned inspector here!
Hi Keith thanks for the great comment, you my friend know what its like to work in extreme conditions, if temeratures continue to drop in the UK maybe we will need to rethinkbthe external siting of vent pipes and connections but as it stands we rarely get frozen drains.
0:04 even someone as relxed as you has to stop and take a deep breath when you see a mess like that - how reassuring 😅! As always thanks for filming, editing and posting 👍
If those were shoes of a decent make, that could be a very expensive blockage, on the lighter coloured leather it can be difficult to get water staining out. Well done tony, that was a very handy snake attachment.👍
Can you introduce the job ie toilet not working or rountine maintenance. Was that two jobs or one? Also why do you not have steel toe cap shoes as working with tools? Those shoes are very porous material which would be hard to clean how do you prevent cross contamination from job to job if cannot clean things as porous? You clean equipment and change gloves but probably get a lot of splashes on shoes
Wet wipes but let us not forget sanitary products. The worse in my experience are tampons deigned to expand. I still find them in our septic tank piping 20 years since they got there when we used to do bands Something else more recently teeth cleaning tape which delights in tying kitchen towels to each other and bunging up pipes. As you can gather I usually manage to DIY it myself
We had a building on base (full of women) always getting plugged up with sanitary products and it was no big deal until the responding mechanic told the ladies that there was too many sewer mice in the pipe, and one woman put 2 + 2 together and was furious he was making light of the situation…… my office phone rand for a week!
We have a yew tree at least 100 years old on the edge of our drive. A few years ago our sewer drain became blocked. Upon investigation, we found that one of the yew tree roots had grown and broken into the drain. Not only that, it had gone along the drain and then up the cast iron drain pipe at the side of the house around 15 feet up!
I was told never push with the flow. Unless you have to. Go to manhole or port and push back against blockage so as not to jamm it in harder. Dad was a Plumber. As a 10yr old he introduced me to clearing. A 5ft ish deep manhole nice and clean but one upstream blocked. So down he sent me with rods. I pushed and shoved until I heard a gurgle and a small amou t of water. Dad forgot to tell me to get out quick. Thats the day he said I qaulified whilst stood in 6inches of crap. I still use the push upstream method or did as 69 now. But I found a pressure washer attatchment blasts em clean whatever way you go.
a simple fix wwould be to have a spray on the toilets so you can rise yourself and wet wipes hould never be used. I was in thialand and the place I stayed had sprayers to wash yourself up then simple tissue to dry off - work so well there i had one installed on my toilets in the usa. plus it makes cleaning the toilet a breaeze as well.
How ignorant not moving the rubbish before you arrived. Well if your getting paid hourly then it’s their pockets you get to Clear out too sunshine . Much love to you tony xx
Yea Tony, I liked the video even though I came close to puking. That job is why you make the Big Bucks 🤣 By the way, I also liked your waterproof safety shoes all soaking wet an glistening 🤢 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 By the way, that first one on first appearance is partly due to insufficient slope/grade of the drain to the city/county street line. Your comments on that if you will?
Thanks , at last proper recognition on the waterproof safety snikers lol.Yes mate so many drains laid to an insufficient fall. Cheers for the great comment
Why is it that most of these manhole covers have lifting points, yet you still use a lever and a screwdriver, and also not broom away all the shite around the top first, gently knock with a rubber mallet usually loosens it up. Thats the first bit out of the way, now lets get on with unblocking the obstruction.
Remember, throw wet wipes in the toilet, don't throw them in the bin. It's always more expensive to throw them in the toilet. And we're not cheap, are we?
I look after 2 retirement complexes and I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve been called out to clear a blockage in drains or pipework and 100% of the time it’s wet wipes and cotton wool buds. For some reason the “carers” ( don’t carers I call them) seem to think that once it’s gone down the toilet then that’s their job done. To be fair about it it’s easy money for me but still annoying in principle.
I've had 3 kids including twins and have never been stupid enough to flush a wet wipe. Do people really have that much low level intelligence to flush wipes or do they just not care?!
I think its about education really, so many people believe the packaging statements saying flushable. Thing is they are flushable but not biodegradable.
Some people are even dumb enough to flush disposable nappies which blocks sewer pipesas well as pooring fat down kitchen sinks and down the toilet creating "fatbergs".

Wet wipes....what a nightmare! Even the so-called 'flushable wet wipes' are dodgy. Charge more for wet wipe blockages...that might concentrate their minds.
Thanks for the video Tony.
Cheers my friend
Those wipes seem more like cloth than the wipes in the USA. But I imagine either way any of them will clog the pipes. Stay warm Tony!
Cheers mate yes getting a bit chilly now
You are a better man than me, I wouldn’t have even looked at the drain till they cleaned up their rubbish.
Took him 90 seconds to clear it out of the way🤣
Brilliant Tony as per usual!
Cheers Mike

What a mess wipes are making to the waist system. Good job Tony.👍
Thank you, wet wipes are litterally the cause of most issues these days.

Yay Ive been waiting for an episode of Flooded house due to Wet Wipes 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks Tony👏👏......Made my sunday morning a joyful 👍

I was told there would be fish of the sewer-living variety.

That was a large amount of wipes! You got it sorted though. You should charge extra for moving items out of the way.

😁
The wet mop wipes, that could be it...
you do a great servise
Thank you very much.
Glad you don't do smell o vision lol 😂
Once they get that bill, they won’t be wiping their ass with wet wipes anymore
Great work Matey! Wet wipes should be banned.
Wouldn't you think they would have cleared the area ready for you guys to sort their problem out?
The people in that building need to be searched to find out who owns those packs of wet wipes!
100%! People need to learn to READ too.......the wipes say DO NOT FLUSH !!!!!!!!!!!
But kids and old people NEVER listen !
Great job m8 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
People must have money to waste if they continue to use wipes and have to call plumbers out all the time to clear their drains
Probably a load of flats causing the problem and landlord has to pay for it.
My drain was blocked. I live in a road that people and cars use as a route to town,a short lovely road, houses either side. It was a cricket ball🤷♂️😁👌
Wow thats a first. Or is it a 4

Damn look like you just pushed the problem down the line with all those rods 🤭
Into the main sewer downstream ( that's where shit goes pal)
Why do uk drain unblocked use manual rods and outside of the UK use high pressure jets?
We use both but I use rods alot

I would love to know what the 2 tools you used are called, the blue one and the one attached to the drill. Pretty work!
Thats called a flex shaft mate cheers
On the second one, they could have moved the gate three inches back, just to make it more awkward for you!
Ha ha still waiting to get paid
When will people learn, not to use wipes. Just throw them away. Good job Tony.
Cheers Gary
That sure looked like someone's under britches @ 13min mark.
What did the owner say when you told them the problem?
Hi mate pls have a read of the description on this vid cheers ruclips.net/video/6cN2gPElanQ/видео.htmlsi=BOSzaUVYidh1w1W7

Back at the pub?
Yes indeed
Wet wipes were on special.😊
This should be shown at schools I reckon, and you could take a bottle of the stink for a more immersive effect, also the cost of the call out !
Good idea, not dure it will attract new entrants into the drain industry. :-0
A garden hose would be pretty handy it seems
Pet hate of any water company! Ban the wipes!
I have a feeling this house will keep flushing wet wipes.
I could smell that right through the computer screen. Guy in office next to me was complaining about it.
Ha ha 😀

Ahhh sorry blue
Is that also the neighbors That caused blockages
Its the same property mate, the drain is displaced. Tenant only wants a periodic unblock and no repair

Yes very true 👍
Dear goodness I can't imagine the stench
They need to sort the rubbish ot too!
Use a high pressure hose to clean it,faster and effective.
Great tip 👍
They should make wipes from paper not plastic then they'd break down rather than block
We stopped using wet wipes after the plumbing bill came!
