    The UK adopting the metric system put paid to the imperial threads BSF, BSW, BA etc. I was an apprentice in the early 70's so I was taught in both imperial and metric, which was a huge advantage. Nicely done making the screws, to the old school specs. I watch all 3 of you gift givers, they are all fine engineers and are worth watching, as are you too! Good post, thank you 👍

      I was in my 3rd year apprenticeship was when the government changed to metric. One has to think how many thousand of the Australian dollars was spent for the metric measuring equipment with out the public knowing. @@swanvalleymachineshop

      I was born in the 80s, so educated solely in metric. At least at the level of conversation though, imperial so often just makes sense - inches and thumbs, feet and, well, feet. It's all just that bit more relatable.
      Technically, BA threads are metric - 0BA defined as 1mm pitch on an OD of 6mm. Each BA number is the previous pitch multiplied by 0.9, diameter being 6x pitch.

    Hi Max and channel. I really took note of the repeat process as multi-part product. So often, I am at a single task it is an over looked component as to product 5, 10 20 each. So, I had the
    chance to work toward repeat, tool settings and feed. Here at my shop the evening temp is 0 degrees C and so as a week forecast. Thanks for the nice post, as I am delighted to take notes as to best practice and finish. Regards from Washington State, US. M.

    Yes not much use anymore for BSW and BSF taps and dies, i have full sets up to 1/2" and not used them since the nineties.

    • @Elmview_workshop

      What is the reason/benefits of running the parting tool upside down?

    • @Preso58
      @Preso58 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Elmview_workshop It is a more rigid way of mounting the parting blade. When used in the conventional way, the cutting pressure on the tool forces the tip down and into the cut. The reason is that the pivot point is in front of the compound slide. The opposite happens when you mount the tool inverted. It tends to flex up and away from the work. There are also more subtle reasons for a parting blade digging in. The backlash in the cross slide nut and the clearance in the dovetail slide all contribute to that sudden and often catastrophic dig in.
      Regards,
      Mark

    Max, nice demonstration of short-run production! Also, since AusArmour (The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum) uploads weekly videos showing maintenance & rebuilds of tanks & artillery pieces for their Museum without RUclips getting upset -- you and your customer ought to safely be able to say "certain words" (on RUclips) that are more descriptive of your customer's "tractor."

    Max is there any reason why you used the parting tool in reverse.

    • @1crazypj
      @1crazypj Год назад +3

      So tool 'pushes' headstock bearings down tighter instead of lifting them.
      Even if everything is properly adjusted, the oil film can be enough 'lift' when parting to cause chatter or tool/component damage

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  Год назад +2

    I can't remember if I mentioned this to you before Max, but im not usually one for leaving comments.
    There are a couple of reasons for this. One is because, when I leave them usually on videos months or years down the line, you guys won't get to read them. That's what I was told. Let me know if this info is true or not.
    Another reason is that most people have said what I would have said already. In which case, what's the point of me saying stuff most other people have said already? I'm not a parrot, I'm not a sheep, and I'm not someone who says things for the sake of it. I do and say what I want when I want.
    But more often, sorry, at the beginning, I should have said a few, not a couple of reasons, is that I can't think of a dam good thing to say.
    As you can see, im playing catchup with your videos. I've still got 4 months worth to go, plus a few odd ones from 2 and 3 years ago that I skipped past.
    Sorry, but the titles didn't suggest to me something I was interested in, but because RUclips keeps suggesting your videos, I got to see some of them, some I should never have skipped past. More fool me.
    But don't you worry mate, I'll watch the bloody lot sooner or later. It's just that what with playing catch up to at least one new channel every week I add to my list, we'll, there's not enough hours in the day, is there? That and the rabbit holes I dive into!
    Another reason is that when I do leave comments, they tend to be long ones, just like this time, and this usually upsets some viewers who take it upon themselves to send me unkind messages. This is another reason why I nolonger use social media.
    Tell me, Max. Do you have an opinion on why some viewers get upset with me leaving you or other RUclipsrs a long comment? Man, you should see the backlash I get sometimes. They usually say things like, "I should get a life or im an attention seeking fukka" or some really insulting shit that's not worth republishing or soiling your comments section with here.
    It's great that you gave a shout-out to other RUclipsrs. I've seen you do this before. I subscribe to a few Aussie channels and in my book, Kurtis with his sidekick safety officer big Nutts, oops, sorry, I meant Homeless, and the wonderful talented Karen. The cutest camera lady I've heard. She's a dabhand at getting the right shot every time. Not to mention saving all of the bloopers Kurtis makes. Nice touch to show them all at the end. A nice montage to end on. Nice move, Karen 😉
    Kurtis really is a Fooking legend 😂 I've subscribed to CEE Australia since the third video all those years ago. It's not surprising, just how many British RUclipsrs subscribe to you and Kurtis channels. They often make references to their viewers to subscribe to your channels. Who would have thought it. Poms biggin up Assies.😂
    It's difficult to explain about Kurtis without giving the impression that I have a crush on him, a bromance 😂 Oi! you slags out there, I don't, got it!. There's no bromance, no crush, he's just a cobber, a great guy, with a great channel, that's all.
    The way he explains, and I know it takes him a shit load of attempts for him to get it out sometimes, which is where Karren comes into a light all of her own. That girl must have the patience of a Saint! I once watched him do seven outakes because he couldn't get one words out. It was a simple sentence but he got there in the end, poor guy.
    You and Kurtis have a different approach to the projects you do. The way you present yourselves and the comic value you bring to the table is a relief. I know Australians curse a lot. It's in your blood, your nature, I guess, but you, Max, you have the upper hand on Kurtis in that regard.
    Kurtis usually sticks to "fcuk it, fcuk off" or just "fcuk" but you my friend, you take it to another level and the things you say sometimes crease me up. If I were sitting on a bar stool, you would be the reason why I fell off it. Rolling around the floor, holding my belly in laughing. The cracks you come out with at times are simply priceless.😂
    Keep up the good work, and see you soon in the next video. Cheers, cobber.👍⚒️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
