It's truly sad how few have actually viewed this Orsen Welles project. And now in 2020, fake has truly become an art form. I first seen this many years ago and Welles seen it way before the rest of us. Bravo.

The editing of F. For Fake is truly poetic and astounding. It inspires me so much as an editor/filmmaker. Long live Orson Welles.

F is for fake is a marvelous work of art. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it.

Welles' words about Chartres are among the most profound and moving ever spoken in a movie. "Go on singing."

A great, fascinating movie, and, as Bogdanovich says, "Brilliantly conceived and edited... it's like visual music."

I saw it the week it premiered in New York City in the last century. It was in the D. W. Griffith Theater. I was the only one in the theater. It was part of a double bill. The first feature was a cartoon, starring Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, doing a skit on the 2000 year old man. Such was the career of Orson Welles.

"Essay documentaries really haven't been done"...
Bogdanovich seems to be forgetting "Sans Soleil" by Chris Marker

Such brilliant creativeness. All this should be dramatized now ! So many ways to pitch it. Welles is No. 1 !!!

It took RUclips to come along for other creators to catch up with the style of F For Fake and what it's trying to do.

If you can, pick up the Criterion DVD. It has great picture quality and comes with a bevy of special features, including an hour-long documentary about Welles's unfinished works, complete with film clips.

I agree with FFGG22E. My nephew introduced me to "Exit through the giftshop" today and, after a while, I tought: "F for Fake". Would Banksy be a "Banksy.Inc", a form of socialist corporation? Why not?

Orson knew, perhaps, more about fakery and authenticity & innovation MORE THAN ANYONE.
    Yes. I think MORE THAN.
The film is brilliant and fascinating💎❗💎

In a sense there is no authenticity in art. Welles was openly deceitful and manipulative in this film which in that sense becomes extremely honest.

Well Powergirl901 you deserve a round of applause for those astute observations. [applause] The failure of 'F for Fake' to make it in the 'murken market is a real tragedy, though not an unexpected one. Had there been a Netflix at that time...
Also curious as to why they are filming Peter B. out of focus (check the sharp background). Is it one of those '30s Hollywood "Shoot me true de gauze, I do nut vant my fens to see the wrinkles" thingies? Honestly. It's a fixed shot, Mary, and you should have learnt by now that "autofocus" will frequently betray you.
O the tragedy of O Whales. What a miserable and unfulfilled existence (shouldn't say that - he ate drank and smoked well, probably porked well too). So much genius, squandered on the Hebrews of Hollywood and the hicks from the sticks.
