Great video! I just wanted to point out that having the de-emphasis option set wrong in simpleusb can also cause DTMF issues. Try to toggle de-emphasis between enabled / disabled if you're levels look good, but are still having issues with Asterisk not recognizing a DTMF key press with good accuracy.
Is that pre-emphasis? I have mine set to enabled/Y. I had the same problem as Sean with DTMF not registering except 9, #, * worked. I also also am on an FT-65 however my levels were fine at 950. Reducing to 600 fixed the DTMF issues but maybe I should toggle preemphasis to disabled/N.
This video saved the day after picking up my incomplete weekend Allstar project after work today. I also was using an FT-65 and couldn’t get DTMF commands to register on the CLI.
Hiya, Very good and usefull guide, As a newbe I was having trouble getting my newly built allstar node to do anything apart from beep after tx, Having followed your guide all is up and running and I can now connect to nodes, many thanks.
Dude thanks for sharing !!! I had lost hair over this one, sure glad you found the answer. About ready to put the radio on the fence post, but now is working just fine. Thanks again 73
My pleasure. I always see people on the groups.io posting they have this issue; I'm surprised no one has linked the video yet. Regardless, I am glad it helped!
I am using a Baofeng UV-5R 8watt radio and was unable to get my DTMF tones to register. I ended up setting my Rx Voice Level to 400 Value and that fixed the problem. Just putting this info out there in case someone else has the same problem I had. So far no communication issues. Thank you for this video. KC7BKH
Thanks! It's always good to know. Just for anyone who sees this, also note: Not every radio and Shari combo will be the same. So if 400 doesn't work, you may have to find the "sweet spot" for you and your radio.
NIce video but you didn't show that the Yaesu FT-4X was able to recognize the DTMF codes A and B. I was having trouble with my FT-3D DTMF code A only and I did finally get it fixed by making adjustments in another menu. (I can't remember which one it was at present).
So my node will not decode dtmf tones. When I do the option 2 on the simple Tune(12) I don't see my levels it's just a blinking cursor. What am I doing wrong? Even if I put it to 800 for the level I get no bar showing me my level.
Okay. I have lowered down mine to 450. The cli now registers the DTMF codes. But when I dial any DTMF commands (such as connect to a node or say the registration status), the shari seems to do nothing. There is a transmission, but no audio. Any idea what's happening??

I have an issue that I can't seem to get past. I have set up a AllStar repeater and used hamvoip. I have re-flashed and tried several different configurations on initial setup The repeater works as it should. But when I try to connect to a 6 digit node The message I get back is "macro not found". When I try to connect the 5 digit node I get the Curtiosity tone but it does not connect to the node. I do not understand what is wrong nor how to correct it. Any help is appreciated 73 W4JWC
Good Day, In the Asterisk CLI, does each DTMF tone register? Whats the node you attempt to contact to? I can try it and try to replicate the issue. If I can, maybe I can create a video. But first things first, please confirm the DTMF tones register in the CLI. Thanks for checking out the cahnnel.
@@HAMRADIODUDE the node is 505500 and you can see the tones in asterisk CLI and they are accurate. Two other hams in the area can connect to it with no issue. Thanks
@@HAMRADIODUDE I just got it working again and have discovered that the 3 key is coming through as a 2 (baofeng) that was the reason for the "macro not found". I have two uv5rs and neither of them will send the 3 numeric. So I am running and found a HT that will send a 3. Thank you for helping me.

Welcome, Gary!. I will say this about the Arizona HOA's: Attic antennas are no good because the houses are covered in chicken wire or something similar, then stucco is placed over. However, A LOT of the backyards in the cookie cutter Phx area, they are pretty private, due to cinder block/stucco fences. I was at my brothers for a few weeks and threw an end fed up in his HOA. No one ever knew. However, allstar is fun to be able to connect to home repeaters / old friends around the world, etc etc. Good luck with your retirement, and again WELCOME>

Hello Les, What Radio are you using? The radio should be set to 9600 baud and using pin 4 on the input of the DINAH. That would give you the best audio. If you have to use 1200 then pin 5 is used. You still might need to use a resistor when using pin 5. KE6UPI
