Okay, you got me! I heard 1940's and World War... and missed the One... but speaking of Casio, in the late 1970's, I had a Casio calculator that did play music.

I used to use DTMF, for Autopatch starting in 1973, as an add on to my first Drake ML2 2 meter mobile. I know it can be used as a control function. Additionally, some transceiver have direct frequency input via DTMF pads. 😊
Yes I used auto patch on my local repeater back in the day before cellphones, great fun and I impressed my friends with it they thought I was a dork always carrying that radio around but when I got us out of a few jams from time to time or was able to call for help for a major auto accident in a remote area the dork title went away! There are still a few repeaters here in Colorado that still have an auto patch function that covers areas where cellphone coverage is bad!
Half the reason I watch these are to see what pencils he’ll put where and try and reason why he’s moving a particular one around and then I like to think on his end he’s thinking what if I just shuffle this around what are they going to think I’m doing…..and, well, hopefully u know what I’m talking about. I’m trying to figure out the fascination with roger beeps. I’ve heard queer truck drivers use them to locate each other on the down low. A beer near a campfire… sounds like a Broke Back Mountain scenario. Maybe there is something to that roger beep and rump rangers after all…
DTMF tones are used to trigger relays, activation of cross band repeaters, and phone patches We used *88, #88 to activate and deactivate the crossband repeaters We also used * on our simplex phone patch frequency to activate the phone dial tone. To hang up we used # We also used tones to call different people So in my Kenwood TK-250 and TK-350 I have my personal unit number so I can be paged if I am not active on the radio. It beeps just like a pager The other great thing to own is a 2-tone pager, so you can have a lot of different people with their own tones And we can have a group tone SO 313 pages all the people in our zone 1090, 515 pages a specific person So you can use 1 frequency and talk to a lot of people without bothering anyone else.
A pager would be nice if you're active on a repeater. While one way pages are against the rules, but if you're calling someone, it's ok.😊 Of thought about a Minotaur, but I'll probably get an Uniction, because it can scan too.

The ham radio program "EchoLink", commoly uses DTMF tones. (Echolink provides an internet link so Hams can easily talk around the world, with other Echolink users. This can be done via a PC, phone / tablet, and via a Radio & Repeater, or an at home Simplex Repeater!) The tones are used to operate the program, from a radio. DTMF tones allow access, dial various stations, and other program functions. Its a simple, easy, and stable system. Its pretty cool, because I can sit in my back yard with my HT, sipping a cold bevv-erãge 🥃, all while chatting with a chum in England! 🇬🇧 (God save the King!)
Informative video however it was WWII that took place in the 1940’s and it was TIMEX that came up with the slogan “It Takes a Licking and Keeps On Ticking” starting in 1956. I was 6 then.
Last night I heard some guys talking on gmrs channel 19, and they were using a repeater channel aswell but supposedly they were from Texas and Louisiana, I'm in California, is that distance on gmrs actually possible
@craigdavidson2977 I don't have a repeater nor am I setup for any around me, it's my first GMRS radio and I heard these guys on channel 19 chatting it up about the weather down in Texas but I was close to a huge electric tower maybe that was it, just figured I'd ask here since I'm not currently active on any GMRS social medias
