Oh wow you're flying through them! I'm so glad you're enjoying, and I think (hope) the videos get better as they go along 😂 the place is SO peaceful I'm so lucky!
Aisling, what a trooper you are. The walls will look great, wonder how old the wallpaper is 😮. Can't wait to see the pumpkins too. Hugs to you and the sweetie pies ❤, Robyn and Kizzy cat 🐈
Hi Robyn and Kizzy catty ❤️ the pumpkins died 🥲 we had a cold snap and they died which I’m so sad about but I will plant more seeds this weekend! I hope you’re both keeping so well ❤️
Farms seem to have concrete all over. Cute little pumpkin patch! I have to continuously give you credit. You are a hard worker. Great idea to save the wallpaper! Take care,
Thank you! It’s been hard work lately but I love seeing it all come together more! Lots of hard work to come too! Sadly the pumpkins did not make it, we had a very cold patch and it got to freezing but I will plant more seeds! ❤️
Thank you! I do feel like I’ve become a pro at chipping off the concrete! I have bought a new electric tool that I think will make it easier and quicker once it arrives so fingers crossed!
AHHHH you are trying so hard ,ash i think we need to find a man to support you with your wrk there ,there must be some one around to call upon , ,you are sooo keen welldone xx i am on hols in norfolk at moment ,back home on monday xx
Hi Ashling still working very hard, as I said in previous comments get advice from some old builder in the aeria ,concerning the practality of what you want to achieve. Be aware of what behind the plaster slab eg wiring pipe work, one major problem is the plastic ceiling firstly fire risk secondly breath ability tiredly it will confiscate resulting in dampness in the room. Number one priority to remove and replace with fireproof insulated slab Good video please plan kind regards Sean
Hi Sean! Thanks so much for the advice! The plastic ceiling will definitely need to come down in time, not on the to do list for a while but definitely in the near future!
Hi another good job, and as you say good to see the old limestone walls. Once you finish chipping away the cement from around the stones and replace with pointing in lime that will restore the wall to full strength and breathability. Not surprise about the gap between the ceiling and the wall into the loft space. As you say the joists are on the stone rubble walls and thus structural sound. As best guestimate would suggest that the non pro build of the timber stud walls were assembled first up the rafters. Then the plastic ceiling is butt jointed to the stud wall. This gives you the void you are now finding the opening to the attic space. Remedial action is reasonably stress free, given you have no certificates for the current plastic roofing profile re its fire proof rating, remove the current ceiling back to bare rafters. Replace with plasterboard to the rafters this time fitting from stone wall to stone wall. Then the placement of new stud walls from floor to butt up to the new ceiling with rigid insulation. As part this the stud wall, and rafters will be fitted with VCL and joints taped to give airtight jointing. Battens fitted above the VCL on the stud walls to form a service void for the electrics and any pipes and then completed with plasterboard etc. CAD drawing available to explain as required to make sense of these words. Joe
Joe you’re a never ending source of knowledge and advice and I appreciate it so much! I will be definitely going all that to the ceiling - I think the bathroom needs it too!
You did a terrific job on the wall, that big corner chunk was so satisfying to see fall off, building up your muscles haha! Fingers crossed for the pumpkins. Until next time, stay well.
Thank you! It was so nice to get that chunk off! I have ordered an electric tool that will hopefully make it easier going forward once it arrives! We had a cold snap after this and the pumpkins didn’t survive I’m so sad 😂
@@morrigans_cottage I just put in some new pumpkin seed today and earlier this week. Since I want them in the fall there is still plenty of time. If you have more seeds I'll bet you still have time to direct sow :) (winter squash/pumpkins aren't huge fans of being transplanted though it can be successful when they just barely have their true leaves).
I hope you're taking clear photo's of all those wallpapers your finding. The room is suddenly growing with all the concrete coming down. You're going to have so much room when it's all gone 😂
You are such a grafter Aisling, that looked like really hard work, good progress. It seems to me that there has been some unconventional Irish building methods going on here, I've never heard of plastic ceilings before and without a ceiling it must be freezing in the winter. The joists are also worrying me. I reckon you'll have to have new ceilings at some point, with a good layer of insulation on top. Also you could have the walls replastered but reveal only some of the most interesting stone if you come across any snags in the stonework. It can look very attractive. Anyway there's always a solution to any problem. Take care and don't wear yourself out.. summer might just have arrived so I hope you can finish your outside wall.😊
Thank you so much! It felt like hard graft that’s for sure!! It’s so odd there’s no plaster on the ceiling but I will replace it! The insulation in the attic is apparently good but the more the better! And I do plan on having some lime plaster on some walls and some exposed so we’ll see what the stone work turns out like ❤️
Is the plan to remove the plaster and concrete from the entire house? Would it be a idea to get a caravan on the land to live in whilst the house is essentially going to be building site ? You must be itching to get started.
@@sharonhiggs3248 yes plan is to remove all the concrete from the front rooms and expose the stone! It’s so hard waiting to get the projects done but I’m hoping we’ll get the go ahead soon and I’ll be able to stay doen full time! Caravan will be a second option if there’s too much further delay but fingers crossed not!
Hi Aisling, Oh I did not know the ceiling was Plastic, what a nightmare as really it will have to go as it is a hazard for sure, so Fingers crossed that the beams are at least into the original walls, I think somehow they will be. But it can at least give you an opportunity to perhaps make the celling higher in the future, is it like that in other rooms ? Right now I am looking out at the lake and along comes a mother duck and 8 little ducklings so cute and boy those little ones go so fast lol. dreary weather as always where is Summer??, It is also a good idea to stop where you are as as you said pipes and electric all over the place. I do wish it was not such a big project but with your determination I know you will steam ahead. Much love to you all and I hope a great week ahead , xxx Dede
Hi Dede! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend! So unexpectedly I had to spend a good chunk of time in the attic today and the beams do seem to be secure in the stone walls, everything felt very solid and stable up there too so that was good! Lots of love from me and the girls ❤️
@@morrigans_cottage YOU were in the attic???? did you have a Haz chem suit on double mask and 3 pairs of gloves, lol, Bless your heart I am so happy about that as one les to worry about . All good here take care and see you on the next one, hugs to all 3 xxx Dede
very shody 1970s updates done to it, it seems. also never underestimate how fast houses fall into disrepair once thy are uninhabited and no longer heated regulary
Oh I know, houses really need love and regular maintenance to keep them in a good state it’s crazy! But hopefully this place will be brought back to life soon!

They definitely do! And once cleaned and repointed I think they’ll look great

Cement under ground? Grave site?IDK....
It’s so random, but I think maybe they put pathways down, and there are also the old foundations for sheds and stuff but it’s so annoying to find 😂
