    Gary, love your videos, long time watcher, first time commenter. This has really helped and stopped me caring for a culture that looks nothing like my others where they literally cloud, this one grows but is flakey like the one you show here, so thank you! Really appreciate your videos, you cover so many subjects that are not found elsewhere. Would love to see more fail videos, not that I wish you bad luck! Seeing fails and helping us all recognise them is just really helpful. Wishing you love, happiness and prosperity! looks forward to your future vids! Baz, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    A few times now I've thoroughly sprayed my syringes with iso only to realize the labels bled off... 🤣 It's so nice to know I'm not the only one who's done that. Had to try to remember which was which. A piece of scotch tape over the label works pretty good.

    The cheap Temu thermal printers and labels work incredibly well. 12 to 15$ for a Bluetooth printer and 10$ for 1000 labels. I spray alcohol right in them many times and rhey dint change at all. I soaked one in alcohol for a few minutes completely submerged and it lightened but did not disappear.

    I started an LC with a spore syringe successfully. It works well. But better if you have mycelium to start.

  • @TechGorilla1987
    @TechGorilla1987 Год назад

    Funny story - or not... I made an LC and it looked great, but got a dark spot in it - then two. It was made from agar not spore. I made 4 more LC jars and let them rest in the pressure cooker before using. All had growth without being inoculated. What I had in common with all 5 was using a decorative polished rock (boiled and pressure cooked) as a stir mechanism. Obviously, the rock was the source of contamination as I made LC with glass beads previously without issue. I have two more new ones with boro3.3 stoppers as stir bars. I hope this goes better.

    @9:47 - What sort of LC would have darker spots in it that semi-resemble spores? That example that you show has them, and you advise that looks healthy. Could you elaborate please? I have an LC (the one from the rock story) that looks somewhat like that example but with only 2 darker areas.

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi Thank you for this. My poor LC must be dizzy AF as I’ve been stirring overnight! This has been causing what I believe are mycelial micro fragments to create some turbidity & mimic contamination; which subsequent quality testing has negated. I wonder whether severely agitated agar sections can also cause some turbidity. From what I’ve observed bacteria or mould contamination remains suspended in the LC, whereas, the agar & or mycelia micro fragments settle out. Cultures which have had excessive agitation form, jiz like colonies at the bottom, whereas less agitated ones are more distinct confetti like segments.

    You can easily make your own self healing injection lid for cheaper and no need to buy replacements you can just repair or make more very cheap and easy! Also don't use mushroom spawn bags use the jars for mushrooms spawn you can do this as a beginner all the way to semi commercial! Only use bags for commercial growing...

    • @flowleopard893
      @flowleopard893 Год назад +1

      Bags are ideal for people with a small pressure cooker. By weight a lot more spawn will fit. Also, glass is expensive. Running consecutive PC cycles with low efficiency is expensive. I agree on making one's own lids but bags are not a bad idea for beginners.

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi

      both about the same (6-12 months are best - it may very strain to strain and as long as neither dry out or get contammed or freeze it can be much much longer (decades))

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungiyou can freeze LC syringes? I deal with P cubensis only. And it’s a tropical species- wouldn’t freezing kill the mycelium? I know heat over 105-6 F will kill it. I’d assume freezing would too
