    It's actually interesting to see Magnus struggle a bit. We get so used to him being an absolute monster climbing. Imagine if he continued to train gymnastics?! He would have to be one of the strongest people in the world for his weight! It would probably also help even more in his climbing which is hard to even fathom!

    • @yoma2977
      @yoma2977 3 года назад +39

      I don't think you know much about training. As an elite climber he simply has strong as fuck pulling muscles, so back, biceps and forearms. Doesn't necessarily have a strong core or push muscles (tris, chest, legs), so of course he's going to struggle with something with a different sport that isn't focused on pulling your bodyweight.

      @yoma2977 3 года назад +3

  • @nicolasjungblut7874
    @nicolasjungblut7874 3 года назад +12

    I actually train some of that stuff myself. Of course I started only 5 years ago, I am 37 and I never did any kind of exercise before in my life...but I am amazed on what I can achieve. I 100% agree that this kind of training is the best and it's really hard to find a place to do it (especially in Argentina where I live), I was just lucky that the pilates place I found is own by a guy who is also into gymnastics and started incorporating things into my routine until it went from pilates to this.
    I have some physical limitations, not only because I am not as trained but also an accident I have when I was little, and also since I am not young I need more time to recover so it's a little bit harder to build up the strength and work on the technique, and I also think that you are little bit more scared of getting hurt when you are older and it's harder to let the fear our of my mind, but I keep on going because I really enjoy it and it's a lot of fun.
    Great vid!!!

    he's right that its really a shame you cant find open gymnastics gyms to go to as an adult. I absolutely loved gymnastics as a kid but gave it up as I grew. I have nieces now and we go to the trampoline park pretty regularly and its a lot of fun and a good way to get back into shape. I hope that gymnastic gyms see the kind of popularity boost that trampoline parks have had over here in the states. There were none around when I was a kid and now there are like 5 within driving distance. Although I think part of the issue might just be how easy it is to injure yourself on bars or horses, Im sure insurance is a pain for owners.

  • @RyabThatBaconGuy
    @RyabThatBaconGuy Год назад

    The complicated part of training adults in gymnastics is that the skill floor is one of the highest in all sports. Lots of people can go start to kick a soccer ball at any age, dive into a pool, or climb a wall. None of those takes training to start. A cartwheel in gymnastics however is difficult for most people to learn and is about the equivalent to a pencil jump in diving in terms of the overall sport.
    There also comes the issue that you need a coach for someone to properly train gymnastics and figure out even some of the lower skills because the techniques required takes someone with a solid knowledge base.

    It was really interesting to see Magnus do the planche exercise at 05:00, he really didn't seem to have the strength for leaning forward and putting his weight on his shoulders like that which actually makes a lot of sense because how often are you leaning forward putting your weight on your arms in that way during rock climbing? Almost never. It's usually the opposite, usually you are upright and trying to pull yourself up away from the ground.

      At my kids gym, they have adult gymnastics on Friday nights. Hardest one hour workouts I’ve ever done. I’m a 49 year old cyclist and climber.

    I think the reason for it is that it is easy to hurt yourself, in particular your shoulders. That's why you are not allowed to do gymnastics in Germany unless you are a professional or have a supervisor/coach. With regular teamsports, things also can happen but not that often.

    11:25!! I feel the same! I've been asking for gymnastics gyms! (and just think about how absurd is to say that...) I really think that would be a good business to open!

    8:55 believe when I say this exercise right here is one of the hardest in basic gymnastics. I literally needed 10 years to learn this

    @ 8:56 is pretty interesting. It's really similar to an exercise we did as pole vaulters in HS to practice driving the knee forward; the movement would cause us to swing under and around the bar (with the bar at our waist), and we would end up upright on top of the bar in exactly this ending position.
    And just like this exercise, it had very little to do with strength and everything to do with technique.

    Quite a few gyms in the states have “adult classes”, but they mainly focus on tumbling & conditioning. Not so much on specific events.

    I did gymnastics while at university. It was the only group where you could just go and train, have fun doing it and not have any competition etc. Now i moved to another city due to the job and have no possiility anymore to do it since the university here is pretty strict that only students are allowed to join university sports etc.
