  • The process in this video will help you understand how door lock actuators function, keep in mind they are not all the same. A simple voltmeter will work and even a test light (depends on the application).
    In this video we are working on a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The customer complaint is that the rear doors wont lock or unlock with the remote or buttons on the door. I hope you guys enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

    Got to be careful with latches that don't work and then work all of a sudden, a common problem can be wiring issues in the area between the door and the body where the wires flex with opening and closing of the door. Have been caught out with this issue before and paid for a new door latch when the fault was actually an open circuit problem. Wiggle test at the flex. :)

      Someone else told me to do this but how do you get to the wires in that part?

    Nice diagnosis Tom and changing door lock actuators on Hyundai Sonata's are a pain with the module setup!

      You have to set them up? Looked like a boring old latch lol

      Positive Lead Diagnostics The window regulator, door lock actuator, latch are all connected to the inner panel so you have to disconnect the window track just to get the panel pulled back to gain access to disconnect the o/s handle & door lock actuator link & remove door latch screws to remove it as a module...engineer needs to have his ass whooped

    Nice one Tom..
    I know someone would have thrown a module at it just because they would have guess and not believe 2 latches would go bad..
    Only to find one out.One went bad early,customer didnt care for it.till second one goes...

      guayaco3299 love it when customers don’t tell you the whole story either, and when you question them for more information they seem to want to hold it back incase they think it’s gonna cost them more! Lol in reality it would cost them less to tell you what they can.

    How do I get the door open to work on it? Seems impossible to remove the panel while the door is shut.

    Pity there wasnt a stored code for the locks. Then maybe you could see how long theyve been broken before they brought it to you. Im guessing one went bad a while back so they were using one rear door untill that went bad too..

    heh, tha harnesses to the rear doors almost never break in them, the actuators break for sure, lack of overall latch usage and no lubrication lets them gum up and self destruct ;)

    Sir my car i20 center locking system works only when locked from driver side. However, when locked or unlocked from passenger side, only this passenger door is lock or unlock respectively. The remaining 3 doors are not locking or unlocking!!!! Please help.

    hi tom, just a quick question. I understand the reverse polarity system. but i dont understand the purpose of the door lock unlock switch in the first diagram. ( in the box that says rear door lock actuator lh). what does that switch do? how does it relate to the motion of the motor. Because from what i can see the motor motion is dependent on the lock unlock switch in the second diagram that controls the relays. Basically if this makes it any clear, not sure what the purpose of the rear door lock/unlock signal from the ip junction is.
    Thanks for your help!

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 лет назад

      I believe it’s just a switch position to tell the module if the door is locked or unlocked. In one position it will be a ground and in the other it will have a voltage on it

    Hi, I have the same problem (front and back, passenger side). So, I don't need the actuators everyone is trying to sell me? Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't, but even of they don't lock or unlock, they still click and move, just not enough. When it first started, it would only happen when the air temp rose above 98. I thought something had melted, and maybe it could be cleaned. But of course, the mechanic wants the $300 fix

      Sounds like a similar issue but without seeing it. It’s hard to tell

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 лет назад

      Most likely you need both door latches. Simple voltage checks with a voltmeter will confirm for sure

    It would not have affected your diagnosis but this car has a door jam switch to tell if the door is open. Also the door latches on hyundai/kia vehicles do not communicate or have the ability to set codes. I've done quite a few on kia sorentos and they're all wired the same

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

      It may be a pain but sometimes you have to remove the door panel inside the car

      New Level Auto I was looking forward to one from u the other day! Then it disappeared. Hope u r doing well. A 15 Fit gave me a fit. Alternator issues. But no battery light on the dash. Turned out to be a bad clutch pulley. Only 70 thousand miles. Factory reman fixed it. Couldn't find pulley separately.

    When you say "door latch" do you mean the actuator? (Just asking for clarity).
