Hi there! I'm an online English teacher and I'm excited to be working with some students in Vietnam. I'm currently exploring the best payment platform to receive lesson fees. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on using local money agents in Vietnam. While it might be an option, I'm also open to hearing about other secure and efficient payment methods that work well for both Vietnamese students and international tutors like myself. I did some research and i discovered that some payment platforms are not accessible in Vietnam which is a little bit of a problem. Please what do you suggest? Thank you.
Anyone got any suggestions on what card to use for an Australian, I was going in October was just gonna bring 4K Aus and exchange over there, em I better to use a card ?
I used Mai Vân when I was there in October. I would add that there was a big queue spilling onto the road, with scooters only just missing me. As I waited in the queue had to put up with touts as well. I miss it.
Basically, have a bank card that has a bank in Vietnam. And then, use those foreign currencies, and exchange it here in these places for the local currency. So use your foreign card as a credit card. Then use this bank as a local debit card account, and exchange as you need it. I think that is best.
For example......this Feb 2024. Official exchange rate was about 24,600 VND to $1 USD. But I got 25,000 VND to $1 USD at a Hanoi Airport (Exchange). Inside Hanoi (old town-tourist area) I got 25,500 VND to $1 USD. A Na Trang jewelry store also gave me 25,500 VND to $1 USD. By the time I got to Saigon I was getting 25,200 to $1 USD. Sorry, but I didn't use the Bank this trip.
Just got a bank account this year, been here many times and brought cash with no problems, you have to be able to manage your money well, never lost any money, but I would not recommend to others. Exchange money at local jewelry stores.
Xin Chao! Since you mentioned Fidelity, have you tried using their debit card to withdraw cash at the ATM? Do you know the total transaction fee that Fidelity and the ATM bank charge? Thank you much!
thanks for the info Chris! what about citibank to do banking ie atm withdraw limit/day? last time I exchange at bank, I stay almost 2hours.....and I was by myself! they are so slow.
Mai Van and Ha Tam were not giving the best rates about two weeks ago. Kim Huy Jewelry along the street were giving a better rate. Best to shop around. Also depends on how much you are changing.
I still don't get why people would even want to bring a thousand dollars cash over? Every time I've gone I just use my Schwab debit card to draw cash out of any ATM as I need it. And by the way, I do not see in the description where you listed the bank where you can get a checking account on an e Visa. Thanks
THANK YOU for the info and tips. I will be traveling there in 2 weeks. Super excited about the trip but a little apprehensive about how things work there. So THANK YOU for sharing this video!
Banks, jewelry stores and exchanges...... might just ask to see your passport. Whatever. IMHO, it's not a big deal to me. Rrrright.........assuming that your money is NOT..... "DIRTY". LOL. But then, SOME (jewelry stores) won't even bother. They just wanna make money.
Hello Chris 👋 I have A question for you. When I go into Vietnam from the United State. With my JCmorgan Chase Visa Debit card. Can I withdraw cash 💰 in Vietnam?
The difference among jewelry shops is negligible, it's not worth it to shop around. What's important is their rates are always higher than banks or whatever an app tells you. Also, they'll exchange any bills but will give you a lower rate for old/crumpled or lower denomination ones. From experience, Vietcombank and Timo/Viet Capital have the strictest rules for foreigners; VP Bank is relatively lax.
@@akshayp8293 not that I know of. But what you can do is exchange, let's say, just $100 first at the airport then go to a jewelry shop after you've settled in.
Chris, how in the world do people live in a country like Vietnam with all those millions of motorcycles and cars honking and shit. It seems so chaotic and dangerous. I've never been to Vietnam and by the look of it, I don't think want to go there. But if you are happy there, I am happy for you man!! Peace~
It's annoying as hell. Tolerating it and getting used to it are two diametrically opposed concepts. If you try to do any audio or video with audio soundtrack recordings it will frustrate the hell out of you. Even the less populated areas do it. Horns are likened to flashing high beams or using turn signals in the West. It's just something you have to accept when you go to VN. (Thailand has much less of it.) Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I love Vietnam and hope to return soon...2023 I hope. My love for Thailand and Japan are on par, with different likes and dislikes respectively.
I used the Citibank ATM at the Central Park. Was allowed 6.6Million per transaction for $3. Now in Da Nang I can only 2Million per transaction. I’ve spent £1000 in a fortnight but I have gone full tourist 😂 for instance … I set up Grab on my phone and paid cash (with a tip) then noticed I was paying direct out of bank as well 😂😂
@@xdgs567z I no longer worry about the fees. Because, I use my Charles Schwab card/account. They refund the fees to me at the end of the month. That being said.....YES, some VN banks have a very small daily limit(s) when withdrawing money from their ATMs. I've found that it's the same, for when traveling in Thailand. And YES.....the wait at the VN Bank (exchanging cash) can be a PIA.
When I went in summer jewelry stores gave me the best rate. Gave me slightly over what Google said I should get. Also they only accept new hundred dollar bills
I usually exchange in my home country… about 10 million for a good nest. After that it’s all ATM. And yes, it is true, you spend more when you always have cash in your wallet
Lousy video. Explains NOTHING!!! If Mai Van is so damn good - why didn't you GIVE the exchg rate compared to others!!!! Yakking about it proves nothing...

Is it possible to exchange from euro to dollars ?
Do they not have ATM machines everywhere? If so, is it not safer and easier just use the ATM machine to withdraw local currency?
you can but exchange rates wont be as good and the fees will hurt. fee from your own bank and fee from ATM
Do Mai Van have better exchange rate then in UK? Should I just take GBP from England to HCM and exchange at Mai Van?
Better to exchange in HCM
I have tried 4 different banks whilst on 30 day evisa , 4 times I was told no
