      Very helpful to not have to sit through minutes of some idiot telling me to like a video and subscribe before I even see the video to determine if I like it.
      Also, I appreciate not having to listen to a 15-30 sec. theme song someone made up for a 1-15 minute video clip, like so many RUclips producers do.

      Hi. On my mix-bus i have been doing some mide side eq-ing and i notice how much the sounds are glued in together and it sounds more cohesive. I do only -1or -2db of gain reduction. Will this affect my mix for mastering.? Please and thanks for reading and answering.

      Thanks for the videos, they're awesome. 1. Volume automation on the masterbus (e.g. lowering the volume before the chorus/drop) - will this cause problems for my master engineer? 2. Is it worth buying an analog mixer just for the sound or are just just big expensive consoles going to give me that nice analog coloration and I'm better off buying an interface with more inputs for my synths? 3. Do I need to pay attention to what preamps an interface has if my only goal is to record synthesizers without any microphones involved? Thanks!

    In tip #14 about a/b(ing) decisions you mention how each effect can have not only positives but variable negatives dependent on how you want the mix to sound and how the effect is to be used. Just wondering if you guys have or could make/ point me to any vids that almost go over these particular pros and cons accompanying each type of effect. Any information would be helpful!

  • @weepingicons

    Al, I'd like to know about dithering in preparation for Landr mastering. If my session is exported at 48k 24 bit should I apply the dither for 44.1 16 bit coming out of Ableton or send it to you undithered at the original 48k 24 bit for you to dither when I'm selecting to master a CD quality 44.1 16 bit?

    • @LANDRmusic
      @LANDRmusic  4 года назад

      Hi Paul,
      Short answer; keep it at 48kHz/24-bits. LANDR will dither to 16-bit when/if needed. It will also resample to 44.1kHz if requested. It's best to perform these processes at or near the end of the chain.
      Longer answer; Dither should be applied as little as possible, ideally only at the last stage if a reduced bit depth is needed for distribution. But you need to dither every time you're moving to a lower bit depth. Most (all?) DAW's operate internally at 32-bit floating point resolution, so it's good practice to dither to 24-bits when exporting from a DAW. But save any dithering to 16-bits for the final step (ie. mastering) if needed. Some DAW's automatically dither the output to 24-bits, but I've been unable to find clear answers as to who does it and when/how. So default dithering to 24-bits is ok, as the noise floor of a 24-bit dither is so low that a couple of extra applications don't make an appreciable difference.

    How do I set different predelay for every track when I send them to the same reverb?

    • @LANDRmusic
      @LANDRmusic  3 года назад

      If every track is going to the same reverb, think of them going to the same room. You'll only be able to set one pre delay time that defines ALL the sounds in the same room. If you're looking to set different pre delay times for different sounds, I'd recommend setting up more reverb busses.
