Thank you so very much for the Kurolt videos! I was 26 in 1989 and watching these makes me think of simpler times. I appreciate all the advancements we've achieved in medicine, technology, etc., but I also feel almost a sense of innocence lost in many ways. Honoring and retelling of the past is so important.

Is it just me or does your blood pressure drop and you become relaxed when watching the old 'on the road show? I appreciated anything Charles did.... Even when I was a little kid I liked his shows... And Im 50 now...
I love North America. For exactly the same reasons Charles Karault points out how he loves being on the road. I miss getting actual news from the legacy media, but I can see why no one else watches them anymore either. We have been forced to move on to the independent content producers. Thank you for posting these videos!!!
This is the good America that is shown. I think more of it has to keep showing. There is so much wrong with the world but why dwell on it all the time.
Is that Conway Twiity who sings the intro? This show was always so wonderful! I miss these good ole American shows! So positive, full of virtue, and so educational! Thank you so much! Subscribed and notification bell clicked!
I remember back in the early seventies or maybe mid 70s that Charles did a show about the gandy dancers they were crew of black men about 10 and they straighten up the railroad tracks they would have a song and sing way down in the corner of the branch where the black birds sing and the buzzards dance then they would slide the track over at the end of the song I'd like to see that again!!!
I breaks my heart that since this was filmed most of the dogwoods that covered much of the South and East have been wiped out by a viral blight starting in the late 70’s. Most of the ones you can buy are a non native species that is not susceptible to the disease. In the spring I can no longer look at the hillsides and see the glorious white and purple flowers of the wild dogwood and redbud blooming. I can’t think the last time I saw dogwood blooming but it is still the state flower of Virginia. The few white flowers I see now are usually persimmon , fewer and a puny substitute for our lost heritage.
@@chrisullery3386 that’s good to know. I had heard of a few trees that had been found that seem to be resistant to the blight. Let’s hope they can spread across the hills again. I watched a video on the work to breed and reintroduce blight resistant American chestnuts again.
not sure what 'South and East" you are talking about but there are Dogwoods all over the mountains and valleys where I am and a dozen on my property and through out the southern US maybe you've not spent much time in the Carolinas VA, Ga and Tn

It actually ran from 1967-1980.

It sure does I enjoyed it also more now then back then.I I just turned 53 ouch! My parents would watch it every Sunday morning.I sure miss those days.
Sad television today doesn't have shows similar to this instead of all the doom and gloom.

Much to learn as a filmmaker. Feels like something I'd watch with my grandmother as a child.
So many sweet memories 💖
Where have these days gone? Life was a little closer to perfect back then
Times gone by. Priceless video.
Glory glory hallelujah! Great now that's gonna be stuck in my head for awhile
I love these videos...I have a book "On the Road" also. What memories....
I loved watching this when I was young
America the beautiful
Thanks for the upload!
I miss America pre 2000. Such simpler times
Wow such a beautiful garden for a road side park in Virginia. Is there still someone taking care of it?
I wish I had met him

That's not Conway
@@RJ1999x Really? 😯 Sounds like it to me. Do you know who it is then?
@@godschildyes no, sorry I don't, it's probably a staff singer, but the voice isn't Conway Twitty

"The Last of the Gandy Dancers"! You can find it here on RUclips somewhere, I watched it a little over a year ago.
