Donny Hathaway is the entire reason I wanted to sing brother he's so amazing and I love how authentic this reaction is its clearly your first time going into this amazing vocalist work. One of the reasons you are one of my favorites to watch 💯💯💯
This performance won The Pups & Lalah a Grammy for Best R&B Performance in 2013, and yeah, she is Lalah Hathaway, the daughter of the incomparable Donny Hathaway, one of the greatest male R&B vocalists of all time.
it's way simpler than that, for those guitar into parts, it's just two volume pedals, Bob Lanzetti and Mark Lettieri are playing two diff chords and they're just alternating swells
Thanks for watching!! I was a live audio tech for a long time lol some of it still comes out. Lemme know if there’s anything else I gotta see!! Thanks again for stopping in 🙏
I am enjoying this. It brings back the early sound and setup of sessions of what is now called Smooth Jazz. Dating back to the mid 80's. Lalah Hathaway is very talented and her range reminds me of her father, musician the late Donny Hathaway.
@BEL Development They record a lot of their albums during live sessions with an audience. I would start with Lingus from the We Like It Here Album which is probably their most popular song. (other personal favourites from that session are: What About Me and Kite). There is also an album they did with the Metropole Orchestra, check out the song: The Curtain from that And lastly I'm a big fan of the song "The Good Man Deliver and the Best is Blessed" from the Tell Your Friends album (which no-one on RUclips seems to know about because it's older maybe). It's so cool that there are video recordings of the album recording sessions for most of their music, it's amazing to see these guys work.
@@Beldvlmnt Everyone & their mother would probably recommend Snarky Puppy's most popular songs "Lingus", "What About Me?", and "Shofukan", but they have about 15 years of music that is all fantastic with millions of views/listens. The great part is that they do most of their recordings live, and you watch just about every live studio recording (with audience) on youtube. I'm trying real hard to make you a new fan, but I don't think it will be too hard if you listen to just a few of their songs. If you're up for it, also try "Ready Wednesday", and "Flood". Cheers!
A Harmon mute is what Miles used and it gives such a cool atmospheric feel. The bass player is Mike League, leader, composer and arranger-genius! Lalah is Donny Hathaway’s daughter.
Lalah Hathaway is the daughter of the late infamous Donny Hathaway. If you have never heard of him you are missing out, for real. Donny Hathaway is one of my favorite male singers. Anyway, please react to Rachelle Ferrell, George Duke and Jonathan Butler live at Montreau Festival, OMGGGG. Also, a group from Sweden by the name of Dirty Loops singing Next to you, work shit out, hit me...... You will be blown AWAY!!!!!!
Layla (pronounced Lay-La) Hathaway is the daughter of perhaps one of the greatest male vocalist/songwriters of all time, definitely of the the 20th century, Donny Hathaway. If you ask contemporary artists who's their inspiration, their top 5, Donny is probably on their list. She is an incredible songstress, who has inherited some of her father’s subtlety, nuance, understanding and sense of a note, and taken it to new levels. Her dad was a classically trained pianist and her mom was also a wonderful singer.
@thatSingersReactions, while I don’t necessarily disagree, you must acknowledge naming is deep and important for our community, especially coming from a history where other folks called us whatever they wanted to call us, and we had little control over what we could name/call ourselves. Names are personal and have great meaning. Donny has said he named her Lalah, which means Night Beauty in Arabic, on purpose. The least we can do is respect someone’s name by doing the best we can to pronounce it correctly.
I wanted to see your reaction to Lalah Hathaway when I saw you didn’t react to the Hathaway name. I was like, wait until he hears her harmonize with herself. There are many members of Snarky Puppy. The band is lead by the bassist Michael League. In this iteration Larnell Lewis is on Drums, Cory Henry is on B3 and other keyboards, and Mark Lettieri on guitar (just to name a few).
RE the Hathaway name it obviously gives me a knee jerk response but I definitely couldn’t pull any resources that I’d feel honest mentioning. Decided I was in for the ride - and what a ride!! What should I watch to get to know her and her story?
Please check out the curtain feat metropole orchest!! If you enjoyed snarky puppy this masterpiece will blow your mind. But also all the other stuff from them ;)

Watching reactions to this never gets old.
They won a Grammy for that performance.
Good!! Very well deserved!!
And let’s give it up for the background singers who are amazing!
The bass player is actually Michael League and is the founder of the band with the keyboard player Cory Henry
I’m so down it’s gonna give me a headache with all the funk haha

Lalah is neo soul royalty. Her father is the infamous Donny Hathaway ....and her name is pronounced "Lay-lah"
If you like the big build, check out Snarky Puppy - Lingus. I wish I could have my first time listening to it again :-)
Boom! Thank you!!!
LINGUS! A MUST!
OMG Lingus! Might as well walk out the damn room! Insanity!
I love your insight about some of the details, and your reaction is fantastic. Thumbs up!

Thanks so much for this. I cringed when he said her name. 🙄
@@sheilaclinton2469 I don't think it's that serious it kinda just shows this is his first time seeing her come on yall give him a break now lol
