This song was playing on the radio early morning. It drifted into my sleep and woke me up. It was the first time i had heard it and it blew my mind. Went to the record shop that same day and brought the LP Midnight Blue which I still have. It is one of my treasured LPs
And me... I'm 65, and I remember this from decades ago. I thought this version of my favourite tune of all times was long lost. So wonderful to find it here. Thank you so much to the person who posted it. It was the lyrics that captured me at first as Binge composed it as purely instrumental. I seem to remember her as a contestant on Opportunity Knocks singing this...not sure.
@@susanleitch8649 Me too, discovered this at 65 years old! Can't believe how I missed this wonderful voice during the 80's as I've enjoyed popular classical music for as long as I can remember. Another excellent vocal version worth a listen is by Suzanne Clachair - she sings the traditional lyrics and has a beautiful voice t'boot 👌😊👌!
I love this song and her "Midnight Blue," which I remember listening to in the '70's! It is such a shame that she is not that well-known, because she had incredible talent and a beautiful voice.
The song Midnight Blue by Louise Tucker was released in 1982 and initially had some popularity in Europe. It didn’t hit the US charts until Summer 1983.
I first heard this tune while watching Elizabeth R on TV, it was being played by the orchestra while everyone was dancing. I then heard this song on the radio in the 80s and recognized the tune right away, I have now had the album in my collection since then.
I write in german Elisabeth - Serenade ist eins meiner Lieblingslieder. Kannte bisher nur deutsche Versionen. Nun durch Zufall auf die Version von L. Tucker gestoßen, und ich bin hin und weg.Das Arrangement, die Stimme einfach super, super schön. I love it. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
A superb version of Elizabethan Serenade, the musical interlude in the middle is phenomenal and would rank in my all-time favourite pieces of music. Well done to all - quite brilliant.
Me too! I know this song from 1988 when my uncle recorded on a tape, but he didnțt write the text and the author. Today when I opened a documentary about Bucharest in which appeared this song-Elizabeth Balade after I found the author I searched a lot on youtube untill I found this song. I use to listen this song since 1988 because itțs wonderful and I am happy that I found the author here!
I chanced to catch this performance on TV all those years ago. It was yet another talent show (the last one I ever bothered watching) - and she had it! I sat transfixed by this gorgeous redhead, and 30 years on she still sounds pure gold. How good to hear to someone with a trained voice doing justice to a lovely English melody. I, too, could listen to this for 100 years; rock on, Louise!
Wat a rarity--beautiful music, beautiful lyrics, beautifully delivered. I first heard this song almost 30 years ago. Pop meets a minuet. Lovely. Listen to her Midnight Blue and Hush.
Midnight Blue, Hush and this song was first introduced to me by a dear friend in the 80's. I lost this music but happily found it again now by accident, thanks to you! :o)
I love this song also and listen to it at least 3 or 4 times per day. I absolutely love her outfit. Isn't it much more sensible than what passes for performers' costumes currently?
Louise Tucker has the figure to wear pant suits - very classy & elegant. many "artists" of today would look like the Michelin Man with their fake boobs & buttocks in such an outfit
Tis tune means England to me! I am English, but have lived in the US for 40 years now. I used to love the tune when I was "back home" and it strikes me as being so very English. This is a remarkable version--and I think I too, would like it played at my funeral!
Yawnyaman 1508....crikey, what a coincidence, it brought me here too. Saw this live on telly, on the early 80's on some talent show, I think. Was amazed at the voice, and the arrangement, could never find the piece again though. Must find the CD now. Happy memories of great music. Agree with your comments over Tim, what a remarkable guy!!
Just one super voice and song...i have the original LP and thanks for You Tube and the post from a good friend, i can now enjoy this rare video... Raymond ... U.S.A. ... Pennsylvania
I don't know if everyone knows but the Elizabethan Serenade was written by Mantovani arranger, accordionist, Ronald Binge who actually developed the signature Mantovani sound.
I have loved this music "Elizabethan Serenade" since it was first released in the early 1950's, but this is my favourite vocal version. Absolutely beautiful. It was written by composer Ronald Binge (who lived quite close to me) for the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1952. (hence Elizabethan Serenade). Rather adept at waltz time, he also wrote the score to "Sailing By", which is played every day on BBC Radio 4, for the Shipping forecast.
Tremendously good voice. I was not "into" pop music in the 1980s. But I have known this wonderful melody (and its oddly named composer) since childhood. It is very well known as an instrumental piece. It is very popular in Germany. It certainly deserves to be revived. Can I think of which singer should "do the honours"? You bet.
Haha! I love it. I really love Elizabethan Serenade, so this is a great variation on a great song. Could this video be more 80's though? From the dueling synthesizers to the super high pants to the shoulder-padded blazer to the 80 chick fro.....it's so glorious!
what a beautiful classical composition
The best sung version of this.. remember it so clearly when it was on TV all those years ago..
I miss the 80's.
Louise is a fabulous singer and does a brilliant job with this beautiful serenade

A most beautiful voice.

What a great rendition this is.
My dad had the Midnight blue record when I was a kid and I wore it out. I love this song so much. Along with Midnight Blue and Hush
I have the album with ”Midnight blue " and " Hush" but i prefer another track,i like "Shadows" for me the best,a captivating title with soaring synths
Magnificent... timeless...
Beautiful music sung by a beautiful lady. Thanks for a job well done Louise.
How beautiful, heavenly and spellbinding ❤
I love this song and her "Midnight Blue," which I remember listening to in the '70's! It is such a shame that she is not that well-known, because she had incredible talent and a beautiful voice.
I thought Midnight Blue was released in 1982, not the late 70's?
Darrell Jones that 's the fucking truth !!! You say it ! Lovley song

The voice of this lady puts down so many pipe music so called singers of today who just because they can howl and screech think they can sing.

@@carolrumble4930 Yes, she does...still think Louise has got the edge, though.
In only just one word: Excellent!😄

In my opinion the best vocal version is Where The Gentle Avon Flows by the Black Dyke Mills Band .
