I climbed this summit in 2018 during the winter season, and it was an enjoyable trip, but we did not enjoy the landscapes and topography of the region due to the snow cover, so your choice of time was an important factor to enjoy the trip, and great photography and music have a nice time . Your friend from Saudi Arabia: Ali Issa
Yes, it changes dramatically with the seasons doesn't it! So great to hear you were able climb in the winter!! We really want to do this climb in the snow too. Thank you so much for your kind comments, they are much appreciated! :)
Hey Jeremiah, thanks so much for watching! We really want to do this again in winter too! Very different place in winter time, with way more careful planning needed with weather forecasts! Good luck on your trek! :)
Excellent footage guys! We are doing the trek this weekend, pretty a ditto of what you guys have done. Going to do summit camping and overnight on top.
Thanks so much! It's such an awesome track to do a quick overnight! I'm sure you're fully aware already, but I always feel the need to say 'check the weather forecast' It can snow up there at any time, which I'm glad it didn't for us, as we would have been totally unprepared! Hahahaha Have fun, would love to know how you go! :)
Awesome video! Im doing the hike tomorrow and this is the first one of this kind (multi day hike). The weather is also 7 deg at night and wind is 32 kmph. I have a sleeping bag of comfort rating -1 deg. Do you think it would be sufficient for that weather?
Thanks so much for the great feedback! That comfort rating should be absolutely fine if the lowest over night temp is 7 degrees. There are a few factors to consider like sleeping mat and tent when thinking about overall warmth, however it sounds like you will be quite comfortable. Even if you're a little cold, it will only be for one night and not too far from structured shelter in the worst case scenario. Have an absolutely amazing time on the trail and a great new year!
@@vaastexpeditions908 Thanks for your reply! Went for this one, amazing hike and camping places. One night we camped near Seamans hut and the other night at the Muellers pass and went to hike Mt Townsend and then back to Charlottes pass the next day via Blue lake. Such an amazing experience. Best part was the night summit hike and drinking from creeks, the water was ice cold and fresh, melting from the ice caps and filtered thru the vegetation 🤤😋
Hey mate! Thanks for watching! We went in February, so generally speaking you should get similar weather. It can snow up there at any time though so keep a keen eye on the forecast before you go! 😃⛰️ What a great way to spend NYE! 🎉
Hey Benny! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the vid! :) When we went the rule was as long as you were 200 metres away from the summit you could free camp, I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed. As long as you pay the national park entry fee you're good to go! Be aware though we did this in the summer time, so it was fantastic weather, at the moment I know they're experiencing some serious snow. Temperatures were down to -18c only two weeks ago! Mount Koziosko looks really nice. Gives me Tibet and Afghan vibes. Unfortunately it seems no one lives up here. LOL. I don’t see any yaks, or milk, or yak tea. Or buckwheat noodles.
It's such a beautiful hike! Are you doing the Main Range as an overnight too? We went in February and had perfect weather! It can snow up in that area at any time so be sure to check the forecasts! :)
Hey guys. Loving the content! Looking to see if you went back there... Would there be another place you would set up camp? Somewhere more scenic than the summit? I'm looking for that scenic sunrise camp spot! Thanks
Hey Hugh, thanks so much for your comment! :) I just had a chat to Bec about this and honestly we think the summit area is probably the best sunrise spot, along the main range circuit at least. Potentially mount Townsend, but we didn't end up taking that side trip. The Blue lake is pretty spectacular, but I can't imagine it would beat sunrise views from the summit. There might be some better spots for sunset, but from that east sunrise vantage point the summit is stunning! Sorry we couldn't be more help! :) We hope you have an epic trip! When are you heading over?
@@vaastexpeditions908 thanks for the feed back, I'm thinking I'll head out in the next few weeks, when my research is all done. Definitely easy! Also super beautiful! There's a fantastic extended walk through this area called the Ten Peaks hike. Such a beautiful area, we wish we had more time there.

Great video, very nicely done. This deserves more views for sure. Can you tell which month of the year was it ? The weather looks perfect for a hike and camping.
Hey, thank you so much for the great feedback! :) We went in February and we got super lucky with the summery weather! I know that the area can snow at any time so it's very important to check the forecasts before heading out there! Right now it would definitely be under snow! During the summer months though it can be absolutely perfect - just like this! (Although we love the snow too!)
@@vaastexpeditions908 thank you for the super quick response. We are planning to go for the hike this October. Hoping for a nice spring weather .. Fingers crossed.
I guess it depends on when you go! There were only 2 other couples that we saw on the trail, we were super lucky. The main range walk is certainly less popular than the direct summit walk. When we were returning via the regular summit route there were quite a few people there!
That's because of our tallest mountain, Kosciuszko, named by one of your countrymen, Strzlecki who explored much of outback Australia. I think he named it after a Polish count. There's a road in outback South Australia named the Strzlecki track.
You're right it does feel a little 'developed' but I'm sure it's just there to maintain the trail during the winter snow season. The incredible views were what we loved about this hike! Thanks so much for watching!
If Australia owns Heard Island, wouldn't it make Mawson Peak, at 9006 feet above sea level, the highest point in Australia? Mount Kosciuszko is only 7310 feet above sea level.
Hey Chell thanks so much for watching! It's an interesting question actually. I hadn't heard of Mawson Peak before, but going by the Seven Summits guide based on the highest peak on each continent they don't even mention those islands and I wonder if that's due to them being closer to Antarctica, in which case mount Vinson would be the highest at 4,892m. There is a case for Puncak Jaya (4,884m) being the highest in Australia as the Seven Summits guide does suggest New Guinea is considered a part of the Australian continent and therefore there are two options Kosciusko or Puncak Jaya, but again makes no mention of Mawson Peak on Big Ben.
@@vaastexpeditions908 I guess you can see Australia as a continent or as a country. And Heard Island, I suppose, is treated more as a territory than as part of Australia itself. I just thought to bring up Heard Island because not many people know about it. 🙂
