Fun fact: Adam Wingard said that Hedorah was his favorite kaiju. Maybe Adam will sneak him into Son of Kong.
Ryuhei Kitamura said that too. But in Final Wars, Hedorah just makes a glorified cameo. It's sad because I like Godzilla vs. Hedorah.

Unpopular Opinion of mine: Space Godzilla is potentially more powerful and dangerous than Destroyah. Destoryah had a weakness that was very easy to exploit by G-force. SpaceG could in theory reflect Godzilla's red spiral atomic beam at full power. Keep up the great work man!
Personally I think Spacegodzilla would kick the crap out of Destoroyah. Space monsters generally have nothing to fear from oxygen destroyers, and anything Destoroyah can do, Spacegodzilla can either counter or do better. Plus, Spacegodzilla is basically a bigger, meaner Godzilla with telekinesis. And possibly the best and coolest enemy Godzilla has ever faced.
@@watchinglearner I agree man, very good points! I do think Destoryah has a more menacing and original design, better film but I definitely think spaceG could very well be the most powerful enemy of Goji.
Personally I thin destoroyah is more powerful but I don't think he is the strongest godzilla monster he is venurable to tempreture. A bad weakness which makes him weaker. So in my opinion the strongest godzilla monster is keizer ghidorah

Here are some of my unpopular opinions:
1. Destroy All Monsters is overrated. The only good thing about it was the monsters but the human plot drags a lot and is one of the most boring in the entire franchise.
2. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Invasion of Astro Monster are top 5 Godzilla films.
3. Most of the Heisei era ranges from bad to okay while the only 2 good films are Biollante and Destoroyah
4. Gabara isn't that bad of a kaiju
5. Final Wars is not really a bad movie but is overrated, however it's still fun to watch.
6. Godzilla 1984 is a good movie but is SEVERELY overrated
7. Godzilla 2014 is the most overrated Godzilla film as well as still being the weakest Monsterverse film and most people only like it bc they hate KOTM and GvK for not being more serious.
8. KOTM is not the best Godzilla film but it's still within the top 10 or 15 movies in the franchise.
9. The humans in KOTM aren't that bad, most of you are just still recovering from the Gonorreha joke.
10. The last 5 minutes of Planet Eater are far more disrespectful than the entirety of Godzilla 1998 with Haruo erasing Godzilla's history with humanity (+ nuclear message)
11. Just because 1954, Shin and 1984 are meant to be serious films does not mean the rest of the franchise is shit.

I agree with a few but I hate invasion of astro monster It is my top 3 worst live action movies with son of Godzilla and Godzilla's revenge. My overall top 3 worst is the anime trilogy it is trash

Unpopular Opinions:
I actually enjoyed the human action scenes. (Humans and Alien shootouts in the later Showa films, the Saradian Agent side plot from Biollante, the Wire-Fu Matrix insanity of Final Wars, the military scenes from 2014. etc)
Destroy all Monsters Melee is leagues better graphically than Save the Earth, and overall looks more appealing than PS4.
I didn't really mind Son of Godzilla.
Tokyo SOS is tied with Vs Megaguirus for the weakest of the Millennium films.
Super-Godzilla was a good idea done horribly.
GVK wasn't as good as KOTM or Skull Island
The GMK design just looks weird to me. Not exactly ugly, just *weird*.
The ending of Shin Godzilla could've easily worked for a Shin Gargantuas movie.
I posted a few in your discussion thread a week or so ago, but I can go into more detail with my personal unpopular opinions.
1. "Godzilla vs. Gigan is one of the best Godzilla movies." To me, Godzilla v. Gigan is Showa-Era Godzilla at its finest; incredibly fun and campy (like with Godzilla and Anguirus talking to one another and the whole "cartoon/dynamite" trick), but serious enough when it needs to be (the moment when Godzilla is getting his butt kicked by Gigan and the Godzilla Tower is truly devastating to watch). The human stuff is actually fairly engaging, too, with creepy cockroach aliens and some fun fight scenes. Top it off with a great soundtrack and one of the best original kaiju in the series (Gigan) and you got yourself one fun-ass movie!
2. "Godzilla Final Wars is one of the absolute worst Godzilla movies." I'd put it at 3rd worst, in my opinion (with Revenge being the obvious worst and Raids Again being crushingly boring), and that's mainly because of the build-up for it. I was a kid when this movie came out and I remember being so disappointed in the fact that, although there was a huge cast of monsters, almost all of them were killed in no time flat. Instead, we got shitty human acting and over-the-top Matrix BS instead of, y'know, Godzilla. ALL THAT BEING SAID, this movie is still very entertaining; it's incredibly fun to riff on, like you've said, because of how atrocious it is. I was in awe of its stupidity watching it a second time a couple years ago and while it is easily one of the worst, it's still incredibly fun to watch with friends.
3. "Destroy All Monsters is underrated." I'll be honest and say that I may be a bit biased with this one, since it was my first Godzilla movie, but I feel it's a very solid entry in the Godzilla universe. I love the Sci-Fi elements of the plot and it really does feel like the culmination of the prior Showa era movies. The royal rumble with Ghidorah at the end is a ton of fun and, although monsters like Baragon and Varan really could've been utilized better, most of the monsters get a chance to shine in one way or another in this flick!
4. This one is just a personal opinion that really can't be backed up with much reasoning, but, while I prefer the crazier kaiju, animal-based monsters are still really appealing to me. In particular, I've always like Kamacuras and Ebirah, although they are pretty damn weak. Just a personal, unpopular opinion that I can't really add much else to.
Unpopular opinion: I think Godzilla vs Megaguirus is in the top 10 best Godzilla movies. I really like Godzilla's design and soundtrack in that movie.
I may as well throw my hat into the ring fashionably late. I have a few unpopular OP's myself.
1- They made way too many Godzilla movies, especially in the Showa era; I think rushing them out on a yearly basis ended up harming the series with an overload of rather mediocre movies (AKA all movies between 1966 and 1973). Lots of people are reluctant to watch these films due to the sheer number of movies, and the fact that so many of them are on the under 5/10 bar further cements the Godzilla film series as a bit of a laughing stock among casual audiences (not that I care about the opinions of normies most of the time)
2- This one may be on the more popular side, but I think the Godzilla series jumped the shark with the introduction of Minya. Nothing says "desperate" more than giving the king of the monsters his own Scrappy-Doo to attract the youths. This kind of tactic always ends up in embarrassment... The Heisei series did it better though.
3- I like the Megarogoji suit (1973-1975) a lot more than the SoshingekiGoji suit (1968-1972). Something about the latter doesn't quite tick with me; maybe it's the fact that it shows more gums than Butthead.
4- The Heisei series should have stuck to the original plan (AKA make Mothra vs Bagan after Godzilla vs Biollante); it could have ended up in a much more varied film series than the one we ultimately got (bear in mind the Heisei series is, on the whole, my favourite film age)
5- The best animated version of Godzilla is the 98 series (despite my burning hatred of the movie that preceded it). However, if we're going to be purists about it, no animation has ever surpassed... Godzilland. Yes, the chibi baby show is better than the Hannah Barbera series and the Netflix films combined.
6- King Kong vs Godzilla (1963) wasn't worth the destruction of King Kong vs Frankenstein. The fact that film didn't happen, and how much this whole affair affected Willis o'Brien is an absolute tragedy.
7- A new solo Rodan film would be amazing, especially if they pitted him/her (remember there was a mating pair in the 1956 original) against another kaiju, like Megaguirus or Anguirus.
8- On a different note, not ALL the Showa Gamera kids are so terrible. The ones in Gamera vs Guiron and Gamera vs Jiger especially are on the more decent side. However, the brats in Gamera vs Zigra would have been better off as alien shark chow.
9- There should be another Godzilla movie with Orga as the main antagonist. Have it consume other (lesser) kaiju, like Kamoebas and Ebirah, in order for it to mutate throughout the film.
10- And finally… There needs to be a new Pipeworks-style Godzilla fighting game for consols and PC, with online AND offline multiplayer, including most, if not all the monsters in the Godzilla universe thus far (including cancelled creatures such as Bagan and Mogu).
I’m always love Godzilla no matter how good or bad it is.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Mechagodzilla in 2021 for GVK? Well, he did. And NOW he's gonna let the franchise Shine again, when he appears in Godzilla Singular Point.
Unpopular Opinion: Zilla was not a weak monster. It was a bad Godzilla but not a weak monster. The US military has always done better against Godzilla than the Japanese Self-Defense Force has. The US (usually Navy) attacks Godzilla with anti-ship weapons, the JSDF attacks Godzilla with anti-tank weapons. The latter are designed to destroy sub 100 ton armored boxes packed full of explodables/flammables, the former are for destroying 10,000+ ton objects that are mostly empty space and more armored bulkheads/metal walls. Zilla took multiple hits from Mk48 ADCAP torpedoes and several Harpoon missiles exploding inside it, more than enough to damage a similar weight warship. We have no idea how close it was to the explosion that destroyed Madison Square Garden. Admittedly, the US Army proved how useless anti-tank weaponry is against a kaiju.
The USAF was able to injure Shin Godzilla with MOABs exploding inside it. In Godzilla vs Mothra the US Navy had Godzilla on the ropes with Frontier Missiles. So Zilla getting taken down by lots of US heavy firepower doesn't make it a weak kaiju.

My 10 out of 10 are:Godzilla king of the monsters, Godzilla Vs Kong (2021), Godzilla (2014), Godzilla vs mechagodzilla, Godzilla against mechagodzilla and Tokyo SOS
My unpopular opinion: Shin Godzilla is overrated. I think it's good, very good. It's number eight on my personal Godzilla list. But people talk about it like it's the greatest cinematic masterpiece and achievement ever made. And I disagree. It's a great movie and deserves praise, but not the amount that it gets.
I feel like it sees the praise it does because it was a big return for Godzilla or at least classic godzilla but I definitely agree
Having seen Shin Godzilla half a dozen times, my only nitpick with the movie is one character in particular. I don't remember her name, and I understand the fact that she's necessary to move along the plot, but her entire character and personality is the fact that she figures important shit out in the nick of time. Wouldn't have bugged me as much if she had an actual personality, but the way she moved and was dubbed was so devoid of anything remotely close to actual personality, that she could've been convincingly replaced by a digital assistant
Okay, I got some pretty unpopular opinions for you. I promise they're actual unpopular opinions this time!
1- Godzilla Vs. Megaguirus is so bad, it's good: I say this as it's probably one the only Godzilla movies that has made me laugh out loud due to its abysmal editing and special effects.
2- I hate Godzilla Vs. Kong: Inflammatory, I know. To be honest I don't really hate the movie on a critical standpoint, but more so what it has done to the reputation of Godzilla. Because of the fan's strong emphasis on the film being "big, dumb, and fun" and because of how successful the movie was, it's reaffirmed the conception that Godzilla fans are "Man children, mentally incapable of critically thinking about media". and I think that sentiment has become more widespread than ever.
Unpopular opinion:
Godzilla vs Kong was a biased fight as they pushed Godzilla to a more negative light while pushing Kong to a more positive light. I mean considering how both monsters have been shown to be the protagonist in their past films in the monsterverse it feels off that this is is basically the first time that Godzilla is an antagonist and considering how the marketing makes it off like we have to choose a side, it doesn't really make sense since considering they push the film to root for Kong. And in some cases the film kinda goes overboard with the idea of Godzilla going rouge. Me personally, there should've been a film beforehand where Godzilla was more antagonistic which would carry to GvK or have it be like civil war where Godzilla gets some time alone with his own thought showing his weaker side like remembering the past or getting visions of Mothra that way both monsters are relatable and we can root for both of them.

Here are some more unpopular opinions of mine (I already posted multiple unpopular opinions of mine in Alex's post quite some time ago) (if any of these opinions are popular, my apologies, I didn't know):
-Rodan and The Beast from 20,000 fathoms are flawed movies.
-I can't be the only one who noticed that many of Toho's monsters have 1 or 2 great appearances in media, but in most of their other appearances are just...there. I'm not the only one, right?
-Destroyah is my favourite Godzilla villain, but I don't want to see him being overused. Destroyah is a character who's literally born to be a final boss and seeing him being thrown in stories again and again would lessen his impact. If Destroyah is to ever appear in the Monsterverse, he should appear as the final boss of the Monsterverse or at least a phase of the Monsterverse. After all, Destroyah is supposed to be the "Thanos of the Godzilla franchise".
-Kiryugoji isn't a weakling. Sure, he is in the top 5 weakest versions of Godzilla, but he withstood an explosion caused by the absolute zero cannon and his attacks would send Kiryu flying across the battlefield.
-Godzilla Earth is my least favourite Godzilla (including Zilla from Godzilla 98). There are things I like about him (design, abilities, uniqueness), but most of the time...he...does...literally...NOTHING!!!
-I like Godzilla's portrayal in Son of Godzilla. Sure, his design sucks, but his interactions with Minilla are cute and funny and it's nice seeing him develop as a character, going from a strict father figure to someone who opens himself to those he loves (in other words, he learned that although sometimes we should be strict, sometines it's also OK to be soft to those you care about).
-I do not exactly agree with the people who say that monsters like Manda, Varan and Baragon are the best kaiju ever, not because these monsters are necessarily bad, but because they do not get to do that much for me to actually care about them, buuuut I kinda like that they are popular, since Toho one day might actually notice their popularity and let them receive the spotlight they deserve.
-Even as a simple kaiju movie, Godzilla 98 is not very good.
-The Deadly Mantis suuuucks!
-Things like kaiju comics, books, video games, board games and TV shows need to be talked more in the kaiju fandom. Seriously, most kaiju TV shows are good and most Godzilla comics are badass!
-Not gonna lie, the ending to the manga version of Godzilla vs Biollante is even better than that of the movie!
-Megagiurus is a pretty good and unique kaiju and her fight with Godzilla is one of the best in the franchise.
-I'm not a big fan of the concept "this kaiju has a cool/lame design and that's the only reason why I like/dislike it".
-Mothra is a mighty powerhouse. She can cast spells, heal herself and others, block Godzilla's atomic breath, return from the dead in a reincarnated form, she is super strong, super fast, she has beaten Godzilla MULTIPLE times (heck, in some of those she was just a baby) and she could trap your ass in another dimension if she feels like it. I do not make fun of Mothra.
-Godzilla from Godzilla vs Megagiurus is one of the best versions of the character.
Unpopular opinion: anime trilogy mechagodzilla is a good design
I think it is a very interesting design, its like the t-1000 from terminator 2, and its desigh and abilities are fully displayed in a animation video on RUclips

My unpopular opinions are:
1. Hedorah should be in the monster verse instead of destoroyah since that hedorah had Godzilla almost died to where destroyah barely left a dent in him
2. megagurius should be in the next mothra film because it would be like an twist of Godzilla and ghidora perspective
3. Destroyah is an overrated kaiju because other than the aquarium since what else dose he connected to the oxygen destroyer
4. Mogera needs an updated design to where to the point of holding its own unlike in space Godzilla
5. Biollante would of been more cool if it’s more nightmarish design in her reappeared film like the crocodilian mouth and her vines would be sharper and her eyes would be like how gmk Godzilla did.
Ok I'll give you an unpopular opinion, I find the idea of a Godzilla movie without the humans to be the most boring shit ever. I hear so many people ask for a movie with just the monsters and it just sounds like such a bore to me. Godzilla doesn't talk, and is apparently barred from emoting so he'd make a shitty protagonist and many Godzilla movies work in part *because* of the humans, like Vs Destroyah.
My unpopular opinion: Spacegodzilla is a better villain than Ghidorah, rivals Destoroyah as a concept, and is criminally overdue for a return to the big screen. Especially with the Monsterverse providing such a great opportunity for that to happen.
Spacegodzilla's rivalry with Godzilla makes more sense than most other monsters, Ghidorah included. Not to downplay Ghidorah for the important and iconic foe he's always been, but Spacegodzilla is one of Godzilla's most intelligent and powerful enemies, possibly moreso than even Destoroyah. Sure Destoroyah's powers are based around the oxygen destroyer, but apart from representing the past returning to haunt Godzilla, there's nothing Destoroyah can do that Spacegodzilla can't counteract or do better. Spacegodzilla's design is freaking awesome, and brilliantly reflects the comparison between Godzilla and Spacegodzilla as similar beings who have gone down different paths, while lending Spacegodzilla a regal yet villainous vibe. Spacegodzilla's domineering personality fits as a final boss for a monster who already bares the title Godzilla does, and would be even more fitting in the Monsterverse given where the Monsterverse is going, with Godzilla being portrayed as a literal king. Moreover, Spacegodzilla wouldn't seem out of place having other monsters under his command. It's certainly more in line with Spacegodzilla's character than it is with a monster like Ghidorah, who's whole thing has always been about causing destruction on behalf of alien civilizations that either want to take over the Earth or see humans as a threat. There's also a tragedy about Spacegodzilla that parallels with his original counterpart in that he seems to exist against his will much like the 1954 Godzilla did. I mean, it can't feel good surviving spaghettification and being spat out with no idea who or what you are, with memories that aren't yours, and crystal spikes exploding out of your body all over the place. I can see where people are coming from about Spacegodzilla's one film being pretty lackluster, but its his concept as a character that makes him so great. He'd be all the more fantastic in a well done film that was made with care.
6:10 WOW, that's a lot of just wow. Let me get into some of those opinions:
• I absolutely love Godzilla vs Kong, I really really do. It isn't 10/10.
• Why? Gareth Edwards did a great job as director.
• Hans Zimmer is an overrated hack who has caused the decline in quality film scores and what talent he did have (ex. The Lion King) has long disappeared.
• I like Godzilla 2000.

- I'm not a big fan of Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster.
- I like Terror Of Mechagodzilla more than Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla.
- Titanosaurus & Hedorah are AWESOME!
- Mothra isn't on my top ten.
- Gamera Vs. Gyaos is a great film.
- Orga has a good design.
- I prefer the English dub of Godzilla Raids Again.
- Godzilla Vs. Hedorah is in my top 5.
- I don't like King Ceasar.

My Unpopular Opinions on the Godzilla Franchise would be:
1. Godzilla Vs. Hedorah Rocks, BECAUSE of it’s Drugtrip-take on everything, though you can still scratch the kid off of that Movies script.
2. Godzilla: Resurgence is overrated as F....k!
3. The Monsterverse Films are some of my favorite entry’s in the franchise.
4. I believe Godzillas Revenge Actually had/has got quite a lot of potential and could be salvaged through a remake that has a better script and NOT an obnoxious little kid for a protagonist.
5. Destroy All Monsters is ALSO overrated.
6. The Soundtrack of Godzilla Vs The Seamonster is AWESOME!
7. The only thing Godzilla Final Wars gets right would be, when the big G obliterated Zilla/GINO 98.
8. The Return Of Godzilla is the closest movie we've ever gotten to match th' original film in tone and style.
9. I wish Bride Of Godzilla? Would get realized in one way, shape or form.
10. To me; Godzilla is more akin to a Mammal-like Reptile similar in regards to the Dimetrodon or a Gorgonopsid (though those were EVEN closer related to Mammals than the former) and not all that much of a dinosaur.
11. Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla 1974 is the best anniversary, Gojiras gotten thus far.
12. Megaguirus should return at some point, alongside Gorosaurus and the three Kaiju from Space Amoeba (Yes, I know their names but I’m trying to save some time here with writing).

Here's a hot take:
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (1956) is better than Gojira (1954)
I like Raymond Burr as the narrator he adds some gravitas to the film. I thought his scenes blended in pretty seamlessly. I like how most of the story is told in flashback and how it begins with Tokyo destroyed. The attack on Tokyo seems longer thanks to Burr's narration and the shorter run time. And I don't think the anti-nuclear message of the original cut was lost either, just slightly downplayed.

That's an unpopular opinion.
I find it amusing how some people want suits and miniatures for the Monsterverse and call the CGI "bullshit". What would the benefit be besides "muh older movies, muh nostalgia, muh practical effects"? I've watched every Godzilla movie, the suits have their own charm and are great, but CGI is allowing for never before seen fights and set pieces. The monsters are animated characters now, which means they are free of every limitation they had with the suits and are allowed to move in new ways and give us amazing fights. It just seems that these people think that to make something in CGI you press a button and the computer makes it for you, there's literally no benefit to have an actor in a suit in the Monsterverse
I actually see godzilla unleashed as the best Atari trilogy. The best reason I can give is that I never had as much of a problem with the controls as some people say and I like the graphics in the game as they have this sort of charm to them. Btw I’m talking about the wii version here. It also has a fun custom match mode I love.
I agree, i got really used to the motion controls in godzilla unleashed because of this dragon ball game that helped me get used to fighting by using motion controls

Unpopular option: I hate Shin Godzilla's design and I don't think he looks scary. Also I wasn't a big fan of the constant mutation/evolution trait they gave him.
My unpopular opinions go:
#1: Godzilla Raids Again, Ebirah Horror Of The Deep, Spacegodzilla & Megaguirus are underrated. While I can't fully explain why, all I can say is I just don't mind them like other G fans do.
#2: Destroy All Monsters & Shin Godzilla annoy me with how much overwhelming praise they get. While Shin I just haft to accept doesn’t grab me like the other 99.999999999999999999999% of the fandom, Destroy All Monsters I can't stand because of how much people say it's when I can see the film being so much better. Specifically like how each of the kaiju gets a decent at least 3-4 minutes of showing off destroying stuff/fighting the military, & don't have that oast fight be so 1-sided. Think about it. If King Ghidorah hasn't even defeat 1 kaiju (according to Zone Fighter), what makes people think he can take on 10? (Having King Kong & Moguera instead of Kumonga in the movie are just my silly personal wants).
#3: I think Invasion Of Astro Monster & Terror Of Mechagodzilla are the only 2 Showa era Godzilla films I consider to be nearly as good as Gojira. I love everything about each of them & there just all around great movies. While I did grow with films like Mothra Vs Godzilla & Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster, I personally don't lean to them like most fans. I think they are GOOD movies but I lean to I.O.A.M. & T.O.M. because I don't see them get as much attention/praise.
#4: Heisei Godzilla series is overrated. But I'll explain why. I like most of them (exept Godzilla Vs Mothra), & do believe they each contribute lots of great stuff to the franchise. BUT, I believe there's too much passing by fans on flaws with the films (especially the later ones). For 1, Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla 2 could've had a better design for Mecha G atleast in it's face, & I'm upset they didn't give more focus to Godzilla Junior's relationship with humans & the hope that this can lead to a future where this Godzilla & humanity could possibly form a coexistence (in an uncorny way).
Spacegodzilla I think if it had better effects & used Mechagodzilla 2 instead of Moguera would've been 1 of the greatest Godzilla movies ever.
And finally Destroyah annoys me because it should've ended 1 of 2 ways than how it did. Either Destroyah epicly KILLS Godzilla, & then Junior finishes the job, or Destroyah dies with Godzilla as he melts down in a "If I'm going down, your coming with me" moment. Destroyah getting killed by the Military doesn't in my book make him the greatest Godzilla enemy.
#5: Millenium era is my personal favorite Godzilla era mainly because it's the one I had the least issues with compared to all the other eras. My only 2 real critiques are I wish the 2 Kiryu films gave more attention to Kiryu as a character in thr running time, & Final Wars got to feature literally every single monster to appear in a Godzilla film up this point + Bagan. Though that latter critique I accept would be impossible to make.

Also I haven't seen all Gojira movies.
1: The Gojira 2014 design is the best (imo), I love the sharp spines, the stompy feet and the crocodile scales. Only the spines should be larger.
2: Skele Turtle, Baragon and Doug and Kevin (just head) should get a movie together.
3: Cgi is better then suits, because it lets the kaijus look more real.
4: Muto Prime needs to be in one movie.
5: Mecha G City and Noodle Ghidorah should be their own kaijus and not both villains from Tohos big 5.
6: Femuto and Hokmuto could defeat Final Wars/Heisei Gojira (not both at the same time), because I think the emp will weaken their atomic breaths like G14.
7: Mutos are underrated Gojira antagonists, they are like the only enemies which evolved to kill and hunt Gojira.
8: People should more often say Gojira, instead of Godzilla.

My unpopular opinion. I think Ghidorah is not the greatest or best villain. I think of Mechagodzilla first. I think Ghidorah is overplayed and boring. And his attack is misnamed and it annoys me to no end.
And (apparently this is controversial, and I blame legendary fans) Final Wars is the best Godzilla film
I'm pretty sure Cthulhu is public domain. So as long as you don't ripoff an existing work, you could pretty much use him whenever.
As for Hedorah I don't think anyone hates the monster, just the movie for being preachy as all hell.

Unpopular opinion maybe? Toho should make movies, anime/tv shows about other Kaiju instead of Godzilla in every title. I know more Godzilla is what we want but I would like to see other Kaijus like Rodan or The Gargantuas have another movie in the modern day. And maybe a mix up. Instead of giant kaiju, let there be small ones to interact with the humans more like Destoryah’s small form be in a horror movie setting.

The Heisei era is overrated to be sure. Beam spam, pop culture rip offs to an off the chart level. largely forgettable scores. Less interesting combat than most eras. Largely boring human cast. This of course doesn't apply to 1984 and Biollante. As a disclaimer me saying Heisei is overrated and my least favorite era by no means says I don't enjoy it. Heisei is for me the least awesome part of a franchise that I think is awesome.
Shin Godzilla having multiple forms was a silly idea. Shin Godzilla could be either the most powerful version or second weakest version. Shin does little but move forward, stand still, and give a good fire/light show or two. All we have are the humans theories.
A fight between Tristar Godzilla and Shin Godzilla would be interesting when SHin's mutations and Tristar's speed, burrowing, and potential to reproduce begin to kick in.
With how tristar died to a few missiles... One beam from shin is a sliced iguana.
@@nota444tm2 yes. And he was killed by what 8 or 12 high powered missiles hitting the same side? Shin was injured by bunker busters. And Shin is a one hitter quitter. he gets tuckered out and needs a week or two to recharge. Shin can adapt but Tristar can have legions of offspring so its a swarm vs a glass canon.
@@gitss7367 although true, shin got a bunker buster to his back which is ripped open and his red flesh is exposed. Had he got hit in any black part it would have done not as much damage as it did on his back. Also shin has regeneration i believe so he'd heal his wounds with mutations. However if shin were to go into recharge with zilla still there... I dont think zilla would be able to hurt shin due to shin being really heavy. And if we were to count the godzilla vs evangelion.. His recharge is much faster, and he is way harder to knock down.

Seriously late to the party, but here we go! I've only got two controversial opinions, but I think they're both doozies:
1. King of the Monsters was a bland paint-by-numbers movie peppered with moments of blatantly ham-handed kaiju fan service insultingly signaled by gawking actors gushing as obvious moon-eyed audience surrogates over how kewl the CGI is. Only Godzilla 1998 rates lower.
2. All Monsters Attack was a thoughtful and moving depiction of growing up in post-war industrialized Japan. It's a compelling character study and a beautifully framed snapshot of a moment in history. Far from being the worst Godzilla movie (see above), this movie can stand proudly alongside the other kaiju films directed by the masterful Ishiro Honda.

Godzilla 1998 is a decent standalone film. It never set out to deliver the "proper" Godzilla yet this seems to be the main reason people hate it. It seems unfair to hate on a movie for not delivering a promise which it never made.

I think that Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is awful. The kaiju stuff is pretty good, but that's it. Emi is a terribly written character, too many elements are just terminator rip offs and it doesn't understand time travel. See Omni Viewer's Godzilla vs King Ghidorah atomic roast and you'll understand it.

Don't know if these qualify as unpopular but:
-Godzilla Raids Again is easily the worst movie in the series. I know a lot of people go for Godzilla's Revenge but I feel the rushed job of Raids is worse than the laziness of Revenge
-Akira Ifukube's music is iconic but there are plenty of non-Ifukube tracks that are absolutely phenomenal. GMK and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla absolutely slap
-Destroy All Monsters isn't that great of a movie. Its basically glorified cameos with focus on human storylines that aren't very engaging
-Godzilla vs Hedorah is a good, albeit incredibly strange film. I find it much more entertaining than other early 70s films like Gigan and Megalon
-I don't like Godzilla vs Mothra 1992 and think the drafts for either Godzilla vs Gigamoth or Mothra vs Bagan would've been far superior
-Varan is a really cool kaiju by design and his movie isn't the worst. He definitely needs to make a comeback
-i don't think the Godzilla PS4 game is a bad Godzilla game. It is boring, repetitive, and in desperate need of content, but playing it for an hour or so or just doing a God of Destruction run is a good way to spend an hour and is pretty fun, albeit a bit clunky control wise
-The anime trilogy Ghidorah is one of the coolest and most horrifying depictions of the character and, aside from the prologue novels, is the best thing to come out of the anime trilogy universe
-Shin Godzilla doesn't need a sequel and I'm glad a sequel isn't going to happen. The film is a masterpiece and I can't really see any where they could go with the plot outside of "Godzilla thaws out and threatens the world again"
One of your unpopular opinions regarding Tokyo SOS I really liked that movie however I can understand your annoyance with reuses of the big 4 Kaijus this case being MechaGodzilla and Mothra(pulling a Kenny as always) but she lives on through the 2 Larva Mothra reference to Rebirth Of Mothra kinda? As for my unpopular opinion I HATED Godzilla 2014 one of the worst IMO like Godzilla 1998, Revenge of Godzilla, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs Ebirah tier I really ripped that movie a new one seeing it and almost gave up on the Monsterverse there until KOTM did the unimaginable and redeemed the continuity for me I sometimes pretend 2014 doesn’t exist and move on to KOTM, GvK and what lies ahead while some people may agree and don’t like it either they may not down rite have it bottom tier on their list like I do.

I know Alex dislikes Godzilla raids again, and it may not be that good in general. However, the version we got in North America, and I’m not sure if any other regions got this version, was called gigantis the fire monster. The English dubbing was awful, and 90% of gigantis’ (Godzilla) roar was dubbed in with angilas’ roar. It was just horrible. Stick with the Japanese version, as bad as some people may think it is, it is superior to gigantis!
A really unpopular opinion I have is regarding Godzilla vs Kong. I think it’s the worse Monsterverse movie and all it really has going for it is the title fight, it has no story beside a vague “we half to stop Godzilla.” Almost all of characters in the movie are nonexistent besides Jia, she’s the best character in the whole movie and probably the whole Monsterverse. In my opinion Adam Wingard is stupid as all fucking hell for cutting out the majority of the plot for the dipshit “critics” who were saying “hUmAn ChArACtErS DoNT MaTTeR aND DiStRaCt FoRM bIg MoNStEr.” I also think that this movie completely wasted Mechagodzilla instead of saving him for a future movie they shoved him in the end of GvK and it didn’t really add anything besides Godzilla respecting Kong which was a stupid way going about it, there are many different ways to go about it but they chose the stupidest way to go about it. The build up to Mechagodzilla was done horribly and granted this isn’t all GvK’s fault as KOTM should’ve had a scene or at the very least a throw away line saying that there are talks about developing a way to fight toe to toe with the Titans in physical combat. The music was also very forgettable with one exception which was the title theme I think that was awesome and the movie definitely needed more music like that instead of its generic action movie music

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but this is how I feel. The same people who bash zilla are the some of the same people who defend minya(or minilla whatever you want to call that unholy abomination) when someone says he's useless.
You do not mean gojira is the best objectivelyt. You mean it has the most artistic depth. It delves into serious and important even existentialist themes. It also has the best characters, they actually have arcs and its easy to care about them. The love story is great and its connected to godzilla. They end up together because the Dr decide to die with godzilla. Metaphorically and literally killing the potential of the oxygen destroyers and the romance.
My unpopular opinions: the anime trilogy is average, Godzilla 1998 is a worse Godzilla movie than Godzilla King of the Monsters 2019 but it isn't a worse movie, Godzilla King of the Monsters 2019 and Godzilla vs Kong are overrated, Godzilla 2014 is underrated, it's among the best 10 Godzilla movies, Godzilla's 2014 design is better than his 2019 design, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla is a bit more fun movie than Terror of Mechagodzilla but it isn't a better movie.
Heisei era is overrated because all the fights are slow moving and consists of mostly laser beams shooting at one another. The Godzilla suit is also overrated and I find other designs get criticism for the exact same problems Heisei has, such as GMK being not as good because he looks fat when Heisei is just as big if not larger especially with its enormous thighs which look ridiculous. Also not crazy about the cat-like head with big ears and much prefer it to be more lizard like.
Not sure how unpopular this opinion but regardless:
I think Shin Godzilla is okay but, similarly to Evangelion, was so focused on its (kind of pretentious) themes and outcome that the characters, pacing, and story suffered for it.
Also, I think the big G himself isn’t interesting and has little-to-no personality, and the designs for all 3 of his forms are trying too hard to be weird and creepy and look a little too ridiculous to be taken that seriously.
I think Space Godzilla is the worst film of the Heisei era, Space Godzilla is a bad design, and that Space Godzilla isn't as strong as people make him out to be. He mostly just bullied a juvenile Godzilla and I think most of the other Heisei Kaiju could probably kick the shit out of him once they got into melee range.
Godzilla's Revenge and Godzilla 98 are the only Godzilla movies I can say without hesitation are worse. But you like 98 doncha Alex? There's an unpopular opinion.
Like this. The only Legendary Monster movie I have enjoyed has been Godzilla vs Kong. I am still mad at 2014 for making me thing Godzilla was going back to his villain roots then making him basically a super hero. At least Showa knew that was silly and ran with it, there they tried to play it straight while making him practically a boyscout. At least when Heisei did it they took a more gray area anti-hero angle. I wish at the end while that news ticker is celebrating him as 'the savior of the city' he stepped on a bus full of nuns and orphans. I can't put into words how much I hate this.

The hesei films are very repetitive and talky. I remember sitting down to watch godzilla vs king ghidorah and they repeated the time travel explanation ad nauseum. The dubbing really doesn’t help. It makes all the older films a very awkward watch

Godzilla vs King Ghidorah has many, many problems. The special effects are a massive step down from Biollante. Ghidorah himself looks stiff and doesn't move anywhere near enough, especially in flight, and the shots of the android character are horrible. The time travel is both convoluted and just bad. And I have a problem with any movie that depicts the Japanese military as the good guys and the American military as the bas guys in World War 2. Imperial Japan was one of the great evils of the 20th century and Japan as a nation should be more ashamed of the atrocities it committed then. If this would be unacceptable in a movie depicting the Nazis it should be just as unacceptable here. The whole movie is basically a fanfic rewriting history to make Japan an unstoppable superpower. The Godzilla parts are still very good and its better than Space Godzilla, but it's the sloppiest movie in the Heisei era in addition to being painfully bad propaganda.

I like Zilla as my favorite Godzilla design, Godzilla 2000 and monsterverse are my other favorites. As for movie quality Heisei era is the best, but I enjoy Monsterverse more. Godzilla 54 while dated, I agree is just flat out the best single movie ever. If you actually understand history and the mentality of the world back then it's just such a great watch. I could see them doing a series decent if they focused less on trying to spin a new narrative and drew more from source material.
