    Product Sourcing:
    When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Many suppliers are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
    Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding. Even with sponsored reviews I will only agree to a sponsorship on products and services which I believe will be of genuine interest to viewers.
    Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review. There is no cost to you and in some cases discounts can be obtained via the link or via an included code.
    If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.

    Aspirin would be contraindicated for a hemorrhagic stroke, as it would promote bleeding, but could be useful for an ischemic (blood clot) stroke or heart attack. The problem is that you don't know which kind of stroke you are having until someone looks inside your head. I have the Nitecore NU33 head lamp (actually two of them) and they rock. Not sure how they differ from the NU25. Excellent screen presence, sir, and its good to see a real grownup promoting EDC, especially with your experience in the field. Happy to see subscribers continuing to increase. I've been on board since the beginning.

    • @hengis73
      @hengis73 Год назад +6

      Obviously you have to be careful with medical advice. Good shout. In terms of data are you best not doing anything like aspirin for stroke? Heart attacks my understanding is I can be a dramatic outcome improver

    • @JME422
      @JME422 Год назад +7

      @@hengis73 As far as stroke management, there is no way to know what type of stroke an individual may have had until proper CT imaging of the brain is achieved. This would determine the course of treatment. The only thing that can be done if someone is presenting with symptoms of a stroke is to call EMS and get the individual to a hospital. Unfortunately taking aspirin while having an intracranial hemorrhage may lead to worsening bleeding.

    • @JonGadget
      @JonGadget  Год назад +13

      Really interesting regarding aspirin and the stroke. I wonder which is more common? or more fatal more quickly? That could be a determining factor as to whether taking asprin could improve the odds.......
      NU33 is a great light but no shock cord UL option so twice the weight and much bulkier with head strap - otherwise it is superior to NU25 in other respects.
      Thanks for the kind words on the channel and for being part of the journey 👍

    • @JonGadget
      @JonGadget  Год назад +8

      @hengis73 That is an important point - I was keen to point out that meds were for my needs rather than general advice - if one type of stroke dominates then that might indicate whether taking aspirin or not would improve odds of survival.....

      @rolandkiraly7267 Год назад +3

      Haemorrhagic stroke is much more rare. Approx. 15% of the all cases are haemorrhagic, 85% is ischaemic.

    I like the magnet idea. One time my wife was stepping off a boat onto a dock, and our only set of keys popped out of her pocket into the water. I had to climb down a rotten wooden ladder covered in barnacles, into ice cold water filled with jelly fish to hunt for the keys. My neighbor came over with a large magnet, dropped into the water and I immediately heard a loud clank as the magnet and the keys found each other. A magnet can be very handy.

      A lot of stuff you will never ever use is no use at all. ie 'Imagine never having a foldable titanium fork'. Try eating a pot noodle without a fork. Or lo and behold ever being in a situation with water but zero compressed towels with you to wash or wipe something with. lol

    • @GeekfromYorkshire
      @GeekfromYorkshire Год назад

      @@FISHDINHO the folding type you get a mess trickier to clean at the hinge locking mechanism, so a slightly longer plastic spork is more lick-clean with a real fork one end and real spoon other end. If carrying in such a bag/pouch probably non-folding would fit.

    You should consider swapping the zip ties with reusable ones, they can be a tad larger at the closure end, but it is so useful to be able to keep using them over and over.

      All zip ties are reusable if you know how to remove them without cutting them. Also if you have an actual reusable zip tie you're less inclined to use it for semi-permanent fixes as you've set out with the mentality that you want it back.

    When I'm carrying a Bic lighter I like using a ladies' elastic hair tie to keep the button from depressing. It easily slides up and down allowing quicker deployment than a zip tie, is reusable, allows another tiedown option if your cordage isn't appropriate, and makes you look like a hero when a woman or girl in your party says, "Does anybody have a hair tie?".

    I once pulled an open socket set from the boot of the car and EVERYTHING went down a drain cover I'd parked over.
    Broom handle, pry bar duct taped to that and then 2 strong magnets on the end.

    Excellent video, I used your 2022 kit ideas to make my own!! Already traveled with it once and it was great.
    Some viewers may not know that the Deluxe Tinker would not be allowed through airport security. For this reason, I put a strong serrated plastic knife from Humangear in my travel kit, and put anything with a metal blade in my checked bag.
    Some of your viewers might EDC a Victorinox Compact and Rovyvon A8. For these people, the Deluxe Tinker would be redundant except for the pliers. To cover that, a Gerber Dime, Leatherman Squirt or Style, or Knipex Cobra XS would have larger pliers for a smaller tool size (the Style and Cobra could even go on most flights). The Rovyvon A8 has some hands-free options, such as clipped to a shirt/sleeve/pocket/hat or attached to a metal surface, allowing it to act as the headlamp, making it possible to leave the Nitecore home. These changes would save a bit of space and weight in the kit.

    • @JonGadget

      Hi Paul. All great feedback, I can see you're as into this as I am! Yes, I didn't wan't to confuse the video with my EDC overlap. When carrying the Vic Compact (all the time) I carry the 4" Knipex Cobra in this kit instead of the Tinker. But I keep the Nitecore because my A8 is kept busy (and my be low on battery) and for the weight two is better than one.

Oh and pocket knife I have a massive 😂 Rambler never found need for anything more and I’ve travelled the whole of the U.K. for weeks at a time on the road 👍

    You really shouldn’t rely on anything which needs batteries.Knowledge is by far the best thing to carry…

    Nice upgrades. I love that you keep the purpose of your kit in mind. Too often people lose sight of the purpose and the kit becomes a huge, unfocused jumble that will end up being left at home because it is too big and heavy.

    I've got to say I'm impressed by how much you've got into that! I use a Maxpedition Micro as a small tech kit and I tried switching to the Mini but couldn't actually fit as much into it. Love the top up card I didn't know such a thing existed I can do away with the gold sovereigns now lol. Thanks for sharing your video I really enjoyed it.

    Just a heads up based on something you said: absolutely do not give someone who is having a stroke aspirin. It can help in some strokes or it can very much harm in the case of strokes caused by ruptured blood vessels by accelerating the bleeding. There's also no way of telling whether a stroke is from a clot or not until you get to a hospital.
    The NHS for some reason seems to advise people to do this when every other medical body says to definitely not. This includes the red cross, st johns, phecc, american heart association and all medical literature I've read for college or my research jobs.

    Good video. Honestly if I'm carrying something that I don't use in 2 weeks time I'm not carrying it anymore. A lot of less compact and less expensive items spread around your many common spaces (home, car, workplace) go just as far, probably further. A RovyVon light, a Victorinox Mini Champ and some type of strong thin cord fob with some girly hair ties around it are about all you'll ever need for EDC as a suburban husband+dad with an office job.

    If you cut off one end of a zip tie you can slide on the others to carry in a secure flat carry that will remain secure when some are used. The fishing magnet is an intriguing idea although I did see Felix Imler carry a small magnet that fit in the hook part of his bottle opener of his SAK. I like the Vanquest PPM Slim pouch for its staggered elastic slots which will let items nest beside each other rather than on top of each other. The orange interior makes items more visible as well. Ear plugs are a genius idea since unwanted noise seems to be everywhere.

    Thank you for your thoughts and videos. While I have magnets in other bags/kits, I had not considered them for other kits like these. I like that idea.
    You have mentioned no longer packing super glue in your kits for reasons... I often add a small vile of super glue, simply because it can also be bandage in a pinch as well as a small hemostatic agent. Simply because they are small and lightweight and fit into most any pocket.
    Maxpedition has some of the best gear, I think. From the multiple sizes of the clamshells you show here to small pockets and bottle carriers.

    As always, excellent material, delivered in an excellent manner!
    An inexpensive corundum nail file with the handle broken off would take up very little space, and the weight is negligible. They are only a few dollars at the local drug store. It will file your nails, and even most metals. I've looked at gluing 2 different grits of wet/dry sand paper to opposite sides of a thin piece of stiff plastic for an emergency or back up knife sharpener in the field. But a two sided, foam backed emery board that's been cut in half might work okay for a few uses.
    I carry one or two packets similar to your sanitizing wipes, one is made for sunscreen, the other is a bug repellant. I also have a couple more stashed in a smaller pack that goes on day hikes. And I also carry lip balm with a 30 SPF, and a tiny bottle of eye drops, since I wear contacts.
    I love your uses for shrink wrap!
    I buy used multi tools when I see them at a good price. Many, like Leatherman, are stainless. So even if they appear to have a bit of rust on them, they clean up well. I stash these tools in packs here and there and I'm not out the full price of a new tool for an item that I might use once a year, or never. I picked up an original Leatherman Tool the other day that looked unused. It had someone's company logo on it, like something given to an employee. But it was $12 US.
    Do you carry nail clippers elsewhere?

    Those compressed towels are also good for if you are out in the woods and have to go to the Bathroom, after you dig your cat hole you can use these as toilet paper and throw them in the hole and bury because they are biodegradable so they will break down faster than regular T P.
    Also if you are just using them for wipe your hands or anything but for the toilet! You could reuse them, use as a water filter, and then when done just let dry completely and you could tear into strips and roll up and use for emergency Tinder. Great video!!!

    Thanks Jon, as always some great ideas there. I've something similar for travel with one main exception. I leave any bladed multi-tool out. And I will add that into my bag separately if I am not flying anywhere or I fly with luggage. Last year on a domestic flight where even liquids are allowed I was pulled up because of some scissors in my carry on bag. It turned out they were ok as they were small and blunt tipped but still it was a 20 minute delay. So I have 2 travel EDC now. One for flying and one for other travel.

      That's been my experience as well - even if they let you through eventually, having any type of scissor can make them pull you out of line, and if you're cutting it close in timing, you could miss your flight.
