I like the magnet idea. One time my wife was stepping off a boat onto a dock, and our only set of keys popped out of her pocket into the water. I had to climb down a rotten wooden ladder covered in barnacles, into ice cold water filled with jelly fish to hunt for the keys. My neighbor came over with a large magnet, dropped into the water and I immediately heard a loud clank as the magnet and the keys found each other. A magnet can be very handy.

@11:55 I prefer the Anker Power Core III 10K. It's not as small as the Night Core, and not as light. However, what it has is built in wireless charging. So, you have a back up way to charge if your phone cable breaks. Also, you can charge your phone while you are charging the power bank, it just takes longer.
Your videos are an invaluable source of information for me. Nice bit of kit, thank you Jon. I second the reusable ties someone else mentioned. Also, I know whistles might be on a key chain or some-such, but I generally like to keep another one in the kit just in case (this is for EDC and for travel/hiking/outdoor); as a more vulnerable person, this is an important addition and can be small enough to include.
Thanks Jon, as always some great ideas there. I've something similar for travel with one main exception. I leave any bladed multi-tool out. And I will add that into my bag separately if I am not flying anywhere or I fly with luggage. Last year on a domestic flight where even liquids are allowed I was pulled up because of some scissors in my carry on bag. It turned out they were ok as they were small and blunt tipped but still it was a 20 minute delay. So I have 2 travel EDC now. One for flying and one for other travel.
That's been my experience as well - even if they let you through eventually, having any type of scissor can make them pull you out of line, and if you're cutting it close in timing, you could miss your flight.
Nice upgrades. I love that you keep the purpose of your kit in mind. Too often people lose sight of the purpose and the kit becomes a huge, unfocused jumble that will end up being left at home because it is too big and heavy.
I appreciate you doing a follow-up video to your first EDC. I like the added items and still maintaining a small profile. Thanks for the recommendations, I have been contemplating how to minimize my pouch, you nailed it for me!
Great video, the 6-in-1 charger will help free up some space in my kits. Will also be adding a magnet, I haven't needed to use one myself, but I'm sure the day will come that I'm glad it's there!
Thank you for your thoughts and videos. While I have magnets in other bags/kits, I had not considered them for other kits like these. I like that idea. You have mentioned no longer packing super glue in your kits for reasons... I often add a small vile of super glue, simply because it can also be bandage in a pinch as well as a small hemostatic agent. Simply because they are small and lightweight and fit into most any pocket. Maxpedition has some of the best gear, I think. From the multiple sizes of the clamshells you show here to small pockets and bottle carriers.
Mine is similar. What I have that isn't in yours is a handkerchief, a P38 US Army can opener, a small knife sharpener, and a whistle. I prefer a pen-shaped flashlight I can keep in my pocket.
Thanks Jon for another good one. So obsessed with your videos having discovered your channel quite recently. You are costing me a small fortune 😜 keep us the great work.
I've got to say I'm impressed by how much you've got into that! I use a Maxpedition Micro as a small tech kit and I tried switching to the Mini but couldn't actually fit as much into it. I don't think it's as thick as the Micro, strangely. I certainly couldn't imagine fitting all of what you've fit into it!
Good video. Honestly if I'm carrying something that I don't use in 2 weeks time I'm not carrying it anymore. A lot of less compact and less expensive items spread around your many common spaces (home, car, workplace) go just as far, probably further. A RovyVon light, a Victorinox Mini Champ and some type of strong thin cord fob with some girly hair ties around it are about all you'll ever need for EDC as a suburban husband+dad with an office job.
Hi Jon! Thanks for another great video! I've added a few items to my same Mini Maxpedition. Great little pouch! I also have the larger one that I take on longer trips. I'm always fixing something when I'm away (kind of a bad habit but...) but it's good to have basics when in a pinch! Thanks for taking time to research and share! Yours is one of the best EDC channels I've found. Keep up the great work!
Always very well done and interesting ideas. You don't understand how useful it is until you need it ! Great information who make you think about what you should take with you. And it is very small for what you get. Thanks !
If you cut off one end of a zip tie you can slide on the others to carry in a secure flat carry that will remain secure when some are used. The fishing magnet is an intriguing idea although I did see Felix Imler carry a small magnet that fit in the hook part of his bottle opener of his SAK. I like the Vanquest PPM Slim pouch for its staggered elastic slots which will let items nest beside each other rather than on top of each other. The orange interior makes items more visible as well. Ear plugs are a genius idea since unwanted noise seems to be everywhere.
I like the revised setup, I have a personal thing about stuffing the pouches with so much stuff that it becomes a ball. I think I would get a slightly larger pouch so that it would lay flat and not roll away on me and resist the temptation of adding extras..
New to EDC gear and recently came across your channel, I’ve become a bit of a fan and your videos have so informative. I find myself going through the video description for the links to the products you’ve reviewed and adding them on my Amazon wish lists to purchase in future! Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your videos 👍
💥Great inspiration and ideas for my own kit! 💥 I found the following VERY helpful for a travel kit as well: A Mask / Earbuds / Some Gum / Tissues / Nail Clippers / USB Key. I have to forgo the lighter and multitool for carry-on plane travel (GRRRR!) but can always make do.
Those compressed towels are also good for if you are out in the woods and have to go to the Bathroom, after you dig your cat hole you can use these as toilet paper and throw them in the hole and bury because they are biodegradable so they will break down faster than regular T P. Also if you are just using them for wipe your hands or anything but for the toilet! You could reuse them, use as a water filter, and then when done just let dry completely and you could tear into strips and roll up and use for emergency Tinder. Great video!!!
Excellent video, I used your 2022 kit ideas to make my own!! Already traveled with it once and it was great. Some viewers may not know that the Deluxe Tinker would not be allowed through airport security. For this reason, I put a strong serrated plastic knife from Humangear in my travel kit, and put anything with a metal blade in my checked bag. Some of your viewers might EDC a Victorinox Compact and Rovyvon A8. For these people, the Deluxe Tinker would be redundant except for the pliers. To cover that, a Gerber Dime, Leatherman Squirt or Style, or Knipex Cobra XS would have larger pliers for a smaller tool size (the Style and Cobra could even go on most flights). The Rovyvon A8 has some hands-free options, such as clipped to a shirt/sleeve/pocket/hat or attached to a metal surface, allowing it to act as the headlamp, making it possible to leave the Nitecore home. These changes would save a bit of space and weight in the kit.
Hi Paul. All great feedback, I can see you're as into this as I am! Yes, I didn't wan't to confuse the video with my EDC overlap. When carrying the Vic Compact (all the time) I carry the 4" Knipex Cobra in this kit instead of the Tinker. But I keep the Nitecore because my A8 is kept busy (and my be low on battery) and for the weight two is better than one.
Thank you once again for an amazingly useful video. Since I found you r channel last year. I have been gradually building my EDC pouch. I love the items you have shown here. Compact and practical. 😊
As always, excellent material, delivered in an excellent manner! An inexpensive corundum nail file with the handle broken off would take up very little space, and the weight is negligible. They are only a few dollars at the local drug store. It will file your nails, and even most metals. I've looked at gluing 2 different grits of wet/dry sand paper to opposite sides of a thin piece of stiff plastic for an emergency or back up knife sharpener in the field. But a two sided, foam backed emery board that's been cut in half might work okay for a few uses. I carry one or two packets similar to your sanitizing wipes, one is made for sunscreen, the other is a bug repellant. I also have a couple more stashed in a smaller pack that goes on day hikes. And I also carry lip balm with a 30 SPF, and a tiny bottle of eye drops, since I wear contacts. I love your uses for shrink wrap! I buy used multi tools when I see them at a good price. Many, like Leatherman, are stainless. So even if they appear to have a bit of rust on them, they clean up well. I stash these tools in packs here and there and I'm not out the full price of a new tool for an item that I might use once a year, or never. I picked up an original Leatherman Tool the other day that looked unused. It had someone's company logo on it, like something given to an employee. But it was $12 US. Do you carry nail clippers elsewhere?
Another use for the magnet is to use it under a tissue, napkin or handkerchief to hold and keep from losing small parts when you are fixing something, such as eyeglasses screws, etc.
Hi Jon...I LOVE your channel! I have been working on making up some of your recommended kits including this one. I like the new additions that you have added as well. For me, I like the Leatherman Squirt as my multi-tool. But, I LOVE the Headlight which is the same as yours. I used to tonight in fact when I had to go the the garage. It was icy here where I live and my hands were full. It saved me!!! Excellent gear and I'm buying more of them. Thank you for all of you smart and very logical recommendations that your videos provide.
Thanks for the great feedback - appreciated. Squirt is a great option and also the Micra - keeps the weight down a bit too. Would miss the larger knife though!
Swiss army knife I would have to have one with a saw blade, a small button compass , probably a keyring one that can fix to the outside of the case so that your magnet won't mess with it. Love the top up card I didn't know such a thing existed I can do away with the gold sovereigns now lol. Thanks for sharing your video I really enjoyed it.
For an EDC pen that's cheap and even lighter than the Fisher Space Pen, there is the Pokka pen. I bought a pack of three, really neat! I carry one every day in my pocket.
I don't know what the UK equivalent is, but here in the USA I'd include a quantity of quarters (US$ 0.25 coins). They're the most universally accepted form of currency in vending machines, coin operated washing machines, dryers, etc.
Great video. Your review and thought process is idea inspiring. The only suggestion I have is to snake the zip ties in the hem inside the pouch. You typically find a slot and you just slide the ties into it. It reduces bulk while just the buckle portion is all that sticks out.
I agree they will wander, however, storing the inside the hem holds them in place. I would like to send a picture to show what I am recommending. I just don't know how to do that. It is difficult to describe. Again, I really enjoy your channel.
Life systems did a folding steel KFS (Knife, Fork, Spoon) - with bottle & tin opener. (I'm not sure if they do it anymore) - Ok, there's a little duplication with the SAC, but I have a set I got ages ago and the knife is really sharp & serrated. Comes in a cordura pouch, with Velcro closure & press stud attach belt loop - I have mine attached to a Molle loop inside the side pocket of my water bottle pouch. I have for my ICE (In Case of Emergency) numbers, etc. a laminated credit card sized card. I have a second with my Covid vaccination details & on the other side, my other vaccination details (Yellow fever, Typhoid, HepA, Rabies, tetanus etc.). I also have a small perfume sample bottle with lighter fuel for my zippo (I'm still trying to find a small, sealable steel container). Interestingly on a recent trip to Colombia, I packed my zippo in my suitcase and, while waiting for a flight back to Schiphol from Cartagena I was called to security. Apparently one of the check in staff had seen the lighter in my case and said it couldn't be put in the case as it 'could explode' - I explained in my bad Spanish that it wasn't butane, but used petrol and it was out of petrol. Luckily a Colombian army soldier on security duty came in and fought my corner. But the check in girl insisted I take the zippo in my carry on (if she was trying to get a free zippo, I'd have given it to the soldier.) I'm not particularly tech orientated - my 'phone is a battered Nokia 105, it'll hold a charge for between about a week to ten days and also isn't the type of thing the average thief is likely to stroke - it's also a shit ton lighter than a smart 'phone - and I can scrap the power bank (and not have to worry about the risk of spontaneous combustion!).
I carry a couple small candles you can light them for light or to start a fire without using up your butane also you can use the melted wax to seal stuff or even put it on small cuts or scrapes....
Compressed towels sound like a good idea, but in practice, I find them to be kind of useless. Think about it, why do you typically need a towel? To dry things, or wipe things off. @10:47 But, with a compressed towel, you have to get it wet in order to be able to use it. In my opinion, compressed towels are only good for an emergency wet wipe.
even when the majority is not for me there are always some gems to find. the emergency contact and the extra cash are simply, cheap and feel like must have!
The compressed mini towels are easily expanded by using the cap of a water bottle. add some water, put the towel in, flip it over if needed, and it unwraps easily and is damp instead of soaked.
I keep those compressed towels in several bags, and they only take a few drops of water. So I keep a 15 mL bottle with water in it to activate the towels, but you could also activate it with some hand sanitizer, and that would work like Clorox wipes.
Only issue is that the Tinker won't be allowed in an airplane. Unless you are checking in your bag. But based on how unreliable airlines have been lately I would strongly opt for one-bagging instead. And the Tinker would just be confiscated. It's fine for an EDC kit but disagree with "Don't travel without it". On the contrary, I'd keep it at home :P
Lol I love watching these kit ideas but I can never understand how they can be of any use when all the included items look shinny brand new ! My pocket knife is battered to death from being used same as my tiny little pocket torch I got from Tesco about 4 years ago for £2 😂 other than those I carry my phone and wallet with my a membership. Oh and pocket knife I have a massive 😂 Rambler never found need for anything more and I’ve travelled the whole of the U.K. for weeks at a time on the road 👍
Prepaid Creditcard and essential phone numbers (obvious idea but something I yet did not add to my EDC things) are the two great ideas I take from the video.
When I'm carrying a Bic lighter I like using a ladies' elastic hair tie to keep the button from depressing. It easily slides up and down allowing quicker deployment than a zip tie, is reusable, allows another tiedown option if your cordage isn't appropriate, and makes you look like a hero when a woman or girl in your party says, "Does anybody have a hair tie?".
Hi 6:11 re the magnet- do you think it might erase the card or affect the electronics on the torch or power bank if left close ? Also one of the things I put in is a thin folding reuseable bag- very useful for getting you out of a tight spot when your kids get mucky or …you pop into Tesco
I like your kit and choices. If I was to think about a change or addition it would be a Life Straw. With water being anyones most important need (without any additional issues) those things seem priceless! Not sure about the size or weight in regards to your carrying capacity though. Great video!
You're missing out on the Deluxe Tinker. Under the Phillips driver there is a tiny hole in between the red scales and the aluminium body. That's for a needle. Try and get a hold of one and add it to your SAK. Never know when it comes in handy.
Jon, I would love to see your take on a modular system combine the urban edc with the outdoors edc while using the maxpedition mini! I think you'd have some amazing ideas for this. Think this could be a possibility of a future video?
You may want to consider the nitecore HA11 headlamp. Same run time with HU25 but with AA batteries with a max 240 lumen output. I think a good compromise if you can add one AA spare batt into the pouch.
Excellent content! Subscribed! I have a Maxpedition Micro and a Mini. I've tried a Mini for my EDC but I keep getting back to Micro. Somehow I am able to put exactly the same stuff as in Mini. It fits better and it's more compact.
Great video as always. I might substitute the gorilla tape for gaffer tape as it is much cleaner to take off things and re-use but still strong when adhered.
Have you looked into the “goat tools” multi tool? It has a non locking blade option for Uk options. Or no knife at all if you want Also, the little magnet could be clipped onto the zipperpull in order to save inside space
Yes, had a GOAT tool on order since KS campaign a couple of years back - expecting delivery soon and will feature asap. Possible re magnet but it might find a better ferrous surface and disappear!

Great video. Thanks a lot. I also trow in 12 inca or so of 18 or 20 gauge SS steel. Saved the day once on a bike ride. Cheers
Thanks Jon for another good one. So obsessed with your videos having discovered your channel quite recently. You are costing me a small fortune 😜 keep us the great work.
Thank you - appreciated - sorry about the bank balance!
It was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle I confess!
Bravo from Canada, I look forward again to 2023 videos on EDC from you!
So much great information that I have to keep pausing and winding your videos back. I cannot think of any other videos that are sone information dense
You could probably mold something over the fork tines to turn it into a spoon. Or some type of sleeve to fit over when needed
Thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Great feedback - thanks you. Funnily enough I am just checking out the Vanquest now for exactly that reason! Pouch review coming very soon!
Really outstanding, you’re a standout in a crowded space, Bravo!
Excellent video! For those of us that have been sucked into the Apple Watch ecosystem the only thing missing is a small changer.
@@JonGadget Makes perfect sense, thank you for the additional info!
Hi Jon, It's such a great channel. I have followed your advice and have both the Max Mini and Max Micro. Thanks.
Victorinox Deluxe Tinker - YEAH!
my goto EDC
Thank you Jonathan, I am in the process of building this kit. I find your reviews very informative,
Thank you once again for an amazingly useful video. Since I found you r channel last year. I have been gradually building my EDC pouch. I love the items you have shown here. Compact and practical. 😊
Great to hear - thank you
As always, excellent material, delivered in an excellent manner!
Brilliant!
I have found they can 'wander' when loose - hence the tube to keep them in one place!
I agree they will wander, however, storing the inside the hem holds them in place. I would like to send a picture to show what I am recommending. I just don't know how to do that. It is difficult to describe. Again, I really enjoy your channel.
OK no probs - can you email to hello@jongadget.com?
Heat shrink to manage your cord and cable ties is a genius idea. Thanks for sharing Jon!
you're welcome
@@JonGadget which heat shrink tubing should I buy? Most of the ones on Amazon have adhesive in them. Is that What you have?
@@michaeltchilds I’d use the kind sold in the plumbing section of the hardware store, no adhesive on the inside and nice and stretchy
But the check in girl insisted I take the zippo in my carry on (if she was trying to get a free zippo, I'd have given it to the soldier.)
I'm not particularly tech orientated - my 'phone is a battered Nokia 105, it'll hold a charge for between about a week to ten days and also isn't the type of thing the average thief is likely to stroke - it's also a shit ton lighter than a smart 'phone - and I can scrap the power bank (and not have to worry about the risk of spontaneous combustion!).
@10:47
But, with a compressed towel, you have to get it wet in order to be able to use it.
In my opinion, compressed towels are only good for an emergency wet wipe.
even when the majority is not for me there are always some gems to find.
the emergency contact and the extra cash are simply, cheap and feel like must have!
Well thought out and efficient kit. Thanks for sharing these good ideas.
Thank you
The compressed mini towels are easily expanded by using the cap of a water bottle. add some water, put the towel in, flip it over if needed, and it unwraps easily and is damp instead of soaked.
Thank you Jonathan
Extremely helpful and very informative. Just built the same kit based on your review and recommendations. All the best , Carl
These videos always hit my wallet really hard. 🤣🤣 Love your setup, Jon!
Finally, a seriously practical kit. Thanks.
Great to hear 👍
Prepaid Creditcard and essential phone numbers (obvious idea but something I yet did not add to my EDC things) are the two great ideas I take from the video.
great 👍
Finally! A proper EDC tool set, thank you.
Loving the purple and orange in this video. Very cool
An extremely well thought out kit!
Bandages are the best they come in handy all the time
Powerful magnet for fishing keys, etc from between the seat and center console of my Jeep.
This hoopy frood knows where his towel is.
Water purifying tablets are lighter and more compact
I’m enjoying your videos . I’m a Iceskater, use it for doing my skates up tightening the laces.
Cheers
great to hear
You're missing out on the Deluxe Tinker. Under the Phillips driver there is a tiny hole in between the red scales and the aluminium body. That's for a needle. Try and get a hold of one and add it to your SAK. Never know when it comes in handy.
This is probably the most useful ADC kit I've ever seen. It's great and everything was chosen with a real knowledge of what it needs for.
Nice to see the deluxe tinker getting some love. Don’t see it in many reviews, but been in my pocket every day for about 4 years
That's good to know 👍
Love this annual kit vids.
Just ordered the The Mighty Pouch + for my version.
Great to hear
I have the same kit. I also carry a lockpick. Spare magazine. Knife sharpener,.
You kit is the first one that handles currency. Thanks.
Impressive to say the least, Jon. Your creative/resourceful approach is quite amazing. Remind me to never piss you off. :)
I just rewatch your 2022 version yesterday. Love the new update
great to hear - thanks for comparing 👍
This is excellent so many good ideas thanks from the USA!
Use a rubber O-ring on the Bic, with the zip tie it is used once.
John, I absolutely love your videos! Thank you for such useful, and practical content! Cheers.
Thank you for the kind feedback - great to hear
The expandable towels are a good addition I have been using these for a few years now.
good to know 👍
Great new additions. Glad to see the Deluxe Tinker in there - I think it’s a god send.
good to know
Jonathan, je vous souhaite une très belle année 2023 ! And thank you for this travel essential kit ! I love it, it’s so light, compact and useful.
Bonne année à toi aussi - I am glad you found it useful.
Thé upgrade EDC kit it's very nice
Thanks for your partage
Very very cool can't wait to carry that same case just don't know where to hold it in yhe pockets maybe just a bag
Truly amazing video!!! Your stuff is a life saver!!! Thank you & keep on your great videos!!! 👏👏👏
Have you looked into the “goat tools” multi tool? It has a non locking blade option for Uk options. Or no knife at all if you want
Also, the little magnet could be clipped onto the zipperpull in order to save inside space
Yes, had a GOAT tool on order since KS campaign a couple of years back - expecting delivery soon and will feature asap. Possible re magnet but it might find a better ferrous surface and disappear!
