I do this style when I get tired of my 4C hair but don't wanna braid it up. The style itself is so low maintenance! Every other morning I spray my hair with some leave-in give a few shakes and it looks brand new. If I want more shine I'll add some Jamaican black caster oil. Also when coiling my hair I tend to start at the root and keep twisting without letting go. I feel like that makes the coil even all the way down the length of hair. Also it is possible to make sections too small! (Learned that the hard way) some of my coils were so tiny that they became knotted making detangling a nightmare. After trying this style a few times I figured out the best method for taking out the coils is in the shower with a TON of conditioner Hope this helps somebody :)! This really is a great hairstyle.
GoldFire Taylor thanks for the tip, I was wondering if things style could be done on my hair type..I have 4b or c..can't wait to try it when my hair grows out more
Janei Mae Thanks for the tip. I've done it before but not over my whole head. I want to do it, but I've been afraid it will get knotted due to my very very tight coily texture.
I have to give it to these girls. They do all of this after pre-pooing, washing, and deep conditioning. I've just finished DC and now I'm contemplating doing my hair or studying 😭
Your hair came out beautiful !! If you want more uniform coils, try combing in between each coil before continuing the coil, this is to smooth your curls so they can form together and make one uniform coil. That's what I use for my coils. Hope this helps !! 🤗
Great style and it looks amazing!! Great tips also for those who are attempting the style for the first time. It's one of my favorite go-tos because I can usually get like 5-7 days before I'm ready to do something different!! 👍🏽👍🏽
I have very thick hair and about your length and I find that the coils do better when you have shorter hair as I wore my hair in coils all the time when my hair was much shorter. I also notices that when you go to shampoo your hair it's like your hair does not want to come of the coils. Great video.
I really needed this video!!! My coils kept unraveling so I ended up trying three different products and tgin twist cream and less water remedied the situation. Thank you. I followed you step by step just used tgin and damp hair. Thanks again!
For my first time doing finger coils it came out the same way, some parts were looking defined but some were just not cooperating!! But it was all good. Thanks for sharing with us what you did after you decided you were not liking how it came out. I love watching your videos , until next time , byyee!!!
finally!! I swear everyday I been checking youtube to see if you posted anything. I love how you turned the style into something else to suit you. I always wanted to try finger coils but with my hair it wouldn't last and the texture of my hair would be an issue soo I just let go of the thought but if I ever go for it im sure it would turn out great. Btw have you ever noticed that a problem area in your hair the texture suddenly changed and the area you never had an issue is now the problem area? I'm having this problem im not sure why. I'm not sure if its because of texture change. I've noticed my hair changing up and the texture being more noticeable but depends on the product I use
I have 4A/4b hair that is thick. I do finger coils if I want a fluffy more afro like look. If I was a defines sleek look, I do COMB coils, the same thing with a comb. Not a wide tooth comb, a small one.
U look beautiful, as always. I love the bangs, it turned out well. I've done this look before with the green eco styler, and smaller sections. But my hair isn't as long as yours.
My coils turned out the same as yours. I too had some puffy coils that I separated into two and redid. My hair is shorter than yours so the shrinkage was real, but it had some movement and I pinned one side up. It was cute but I'm used to big hair (I mostly do wash an goes and end up with a big fro) the flatter hair is quite different for me.
Notification gang!! 😍😍 Been waiting for this so long lol... Love doing this style but so time consuming! I use small blobs of gel rather than putting in the whole section and just coil with one finger...
JourneyTo WaistLength Sorry, uhm small blobs of gel on each piece I'm going to coil rather than putting on the whole section then coiling... so that the gel won't dry before I reach the piece... hopefully that clears up what I'm trying to say
+Bethany Derby definitely can be done on tighter curls. It's takes a little bit more work. But one thing I noticed is that the small the coil. The better the results..
What you can do instead is hold the top of the hair with one hand then twist the hair between your index and thumb of the other hand, wrap that around your finger few times then move your hand down and continue . Doing both wrapping and twisting works well
I recently started my going natrual journey and I started watching your videos and I see in one of them your saying not to use brush how is that possible if I have 3c hair that needs to brush to look neatly in a bun I'm only 3 months in on this journey
Tammy Fer You make me laugh! Like seriously now, when you take a good look on the finger coiled hairstyle on any hair type it has a locs look to it especially when its getting old. In a way it can be passed for a rasta hairstyle! Furthermore l have a rasta friend, l did the finger coiled hairstyle and they told me that if l am going to do this hairstyle might as well l loc my hair in other words turn rasta! l have soft, light, pretty hair. To all those people out there that does the finger coiled hairstyle just embrace it like l do, no matter what anybody wants to say once its done properly or at a satisfactory level.
New Subbie. Gotta tell ya, l liked how you kept it real and tell it like how it is! Even though you had some challenges along the way your finger coiled hairstyle still turned out good. So thumbs up for that !
when I read the notification and saw finger coil my jaw dropped. My first thought was 'boy with her hair, ik it took foreverrrr' lol but it looks great!
I just love your hair I have been going back and forth with wanting to coil my hair because of the time but I love the way yours came out so I'm going to give it a try. Are there certain products that you use that makes the coils stay in longer?
🤗🤗 Which eco gel did you use because I love Cantu curling creme but it doesn't hold that long so I've been lookin for a gel I can pair with it that won't flake up.
Try using a rat tail comb. Start at the root and twist with the comb and as it gets tighter just pull the comb down.... that's how it was done back in the day.
Wow! I've always wanted to try this but I'm scared of getting knots. Should I wait until I get more length to avoid them ? I currently have a short twa (about 2 inches). Thanks for the video - your hair looks amazing!
This is kind of off topic but do you get knots on the end of your hair I've been getting knots and my hair is so dry. Do u have a solution to my problems? btw I love your channel 😊
TotallyAle I trimmed today because my ends were so dry and had so many knots. I think I'm going to moisturize my ends until I see a difference. it's so hard because my hair is growing and kind of seems like trimming my hair all the time is defeating the purpose. Thank you for helping.
Tasha Gregory I use the LOC method but I'm not consistent so I don't know if it's working. I use water for liquid, olive oil mixed with castor oil and for cream I use Cantu coconut curling cream. I'm so frustrated with my hair.
I think you would get better results with using a small comb for each coil or something. it's more complicated, but you should try it or try a practice sometime. It still looked nice in the end tho

GoldFire Taylor thanks for the tip, I was wondering if things style could be done on my hair type..I have 4b or c..can't wait to try it when my hair grows out more
will this even work in 4c hair? caue mine is 4b-c and i doubt itll work for me :(
I have 4c hair and it works fine. Just know that your coils will be smaller due to having a tighter curl pattern
GoldFire Taylor thanks
Janei Mae Thanks for the tip. I've done it before but not over my whole head. I want to do it, but I've been afraid it will get knotted due to my very very tight coily texture.
Your facial features are life. Especially your eyes omg
I have to give it to these girls. They do all of this after pre-pooing, washing, and deep conditioning.
I've just finished DC and now I'm contemplating doing my hair or studying 😭
Kiya L. i go to sleep
I love that even though it was a fail , you still released the recording. Way to save the style.. A puff is a saving grace
yea the coil out wasn't the best but the puff and bangs definitely saved it!
This wasn't a hair fail. It looks awesome on you.
Thank you
I swear, curly hair is a lot of arms workout
+hanae fatmi depending on the style lol
Try 4c
I love how it came out
you were my inspiration to go natural I love your videos and I plane on keep watching them as you continue to change peoples life for the best
+forever me glad I could inspire you
me too
one question though ,what type of Jamaican black caster oil do you recommend ? because they could be like (mango etc
It turned out cute! I didn't see anything wrong with it when it was out but pinned up was cute too!
+2020cookii thanks
I'm a new natural and I think I've watched all your videos in the last few days!! You are the bomb!
Your hair came out beautiful !! If you want more uniform coils, try combing in between each coil before continuing the coil, this is to smooth your curls so they can form together and make one uniform coil. That's what I use for my coils. Hope this helps !! 🤗

+Just_Joni Naturally yes it can last a long time. I'm on days 7. Still looks pretty good but with more volume
I have very thick hair and about your length and I find that the coils do better when you have shorter hair as I wore my hair in coils all the time when my hair was much shorter. I also notices that when you go to shampoo your hair it's like your hair does not want to come of the coils. Great video.
+NaturalbeautyJ thank you. Coils on kinky long hair is so much work. 😐
My hair is exactly like yours and I appreciate you accepting your first try with this style it still does look great
I really needed this video!!! My coils kept unraveling so I ended up trying three different products and tgin twist cream and less water remedied the situation. Thank you. I followed you step by step just used tgin and damp hair. Thanks again!
prettyyyyy if you ask me. I love it. I have never tried finger before but you just boosted my morale for it!
+Ama Asubonteng 😀 glad I did
You did an awesome job on your hair. I love the way the finger coils turned out very pretty.
For my first time doing finger coils it came out the same way, some parts were looking defined but some were just not cooperating!! But it was all good. Thanks for sharing with us what you did after you decided you were not liking how it came out. I love watching your videos , until next time , byyee!!!

Very nice. When I do this style, I intentionally leave some of the 'root-puff' bc it give my hair more volume.
It turned out great for your first time. You look beautiful!
Locs would look great on you Shanice!
I have 4A/4b hair that is thick. I do finger coils if I want a fluffy more afro like look. If I was a defines sleek look, I do COMB coils, the same thing with a comb. Not a wide tooth comb, a small one.
this was not a fail girl! i love it!! how long did it take??
+Lovely Genise not sure didnt time it. Maybe 3 hrs. That's with filming it.
only tried this once ever and i had liked it! it's a lot of work though I'll revisit soon!
this color that you have now is very befitting
I liked how you were able to save the style. I also have very think kinky hair and just can't see myself spending hours and hours trying to do this.
Some of them look like locs before you separated!! Super cute!!!
+L G that's what I said. Gave me an idea of how locs would look on me
I think it came out beautiful! The coils with that hair color is bomb.com!!!
finally😍😍😍it's been a while you hadn't upload a video
that's the nice thing about natural hair, you can work to suit by changing the style! came out cute though. I use gel on each individual coil
+Patrice Forde thank you! Next time I'll try that, thanks
U look beautiful, as always. I love the bangs, it turned out well. I've done this look before with the green eco styler, and smaller sections. But my hair isn't as long as yours.
Sorry, I forgot to name my country, the United States
They look like some poppin dreads! I wish my finger coils can come out looking like this ❤️
Your coils came out beautiful! Thank you for the tips, I tried coiling once & it was a huge fail😩😂
+Carines Curls thank you
JourneyTo WaistLength your hair is soo pretty I love it
My coils turned out the same as yours.
+Ayoola Samuel heyy
not sure what you mean
JourneyTo WaistLength Sorry, uhm small blobs of gel on each piece I'm going to coil rather than putting on the whole section then coiling... so that the gel won't dry before I reach the piece... hopefully that clears up what I'm trying to say
I think she means she has a scoop of gel in her hand and coils down ward, instead of applying the gel to the section first
Oh and definitely do smaller sections than you did.. this style can last more than a week!
Absolutely adorable! Great job!
+Donna Mcknight thank you
I always thought that this couldn't be done on type 4 hair. I tried it numerous times but I didn't work. But your video proved otherwise, thanks!
i haven't done them myself but i had my stylist do them for me often, look great on type 4 hair
You're the second person that proves it can be done on type 4 hair. Maybe it is just difficult to do it ourselves?
Bethany Derby i do it on mine all the time, by myself
+Bethany Derby definitely can be done on tighter curls. It's takes a little bit more work. But one thing I noticed is that the small the coil. The better the results..
+JourneyTo WaistLength the smaller the coils*
Color poppin!
That's cute, I think I'll just do it to the front of my hair with gel
What you can do instead is hold the top of the hair with one hand then twist the hair between your index and thumb of the other hand, wrap that around your finger few times then move your hand down and continue . Doing both wrapping and twisting works well
My hair texture is like yours but a little thinner now. I just need to grow my hair about 2 more inches then I will wear my coils again.
I recently started my going natrual journey and I started watching your videos and I see in one of them your saying not to use brush how is that possible if I have 3c hair that needs to brush to look neatly in a bun I'm only 3 months in on this journey
i love how u made this style work and i enjoyed seeing how u coil ur hair 😍
finger coils don't agree with my hair type and I end up looking like I have dread locks that are now coming in.
Tammy Fer that's actually what I like about it. It gives me my locs fix lol
ok ok i get wat yall are saying lol...maybe ill give it a try again.
Tammy Fer Yea man. Try it again. That's the spirit to have! Probably you will like it this time around!
I like the loc look lol
i need to try this hair style! so cute
Love it I’m getting them next week hope it comes out beautiful like yours
Hope you like it!
Hey Journeytowaist length, i like how easily you rescure the day!! Nice save on the finger coils. We love you channel and learn alot..
Gee how long did it take you to do your hair? Very cute style.
This turned out lovely! I'd like to try this, but it's soooooo time consuming. Could you do a mini twists tutorial? That's if you like them.
+Night Angel thank you. I don't think I would ever do mini twists. But naptural85 has a tutorial on them
JourneyTo WaistLength Yeah, a few people have tutorials on them, but I wanted to see if you did anything different.
+Night Angel oh ok. Ive never done them. I don't think I will sorry
JourneyTo WaistLength Oh no it's okay. No worries. I'm thinking about trying them, but they're time consuming too I think.
absolutely love this! definitely going to do this! your routine is so simple and perfect.
New Subbie. Gotta tell ya, l liked how you kept it real and tell it like how it is! Even though you had some challenges along the way your finger coiled hairstyle still turned out good. So thumbs up for that !
+Nicole Allen thanks for watching!
JourneyTo WaistLength Your welcome and thanks for replying.
Great Tut! You hair came out cute!
What lip combo do you have on towards the end?
when I read the notification and saw finger coil my jaw dropped. My first thought was 'boy with her hair, ik it took foreverrrr' lol but it looks great!
+madison davis lol girl you don't want to know
JourneyTo WaistLength LOL I'm sure I don't
The style at the end was cute.
+Lavonya Antrice thanks
I just love your hair I have been going back and forth with wanting to coil my hair because of the time but I love the way yours came out so I'm going to give it a try. Are there certain products that you use that makes the coils stay in longer?
Girl you badd af in them thumbnails! 😍😍 love this style on you!
thanks!
How are you maintaining your hair color? Because I recently dyed hair burgundy and it is still like bleeding with every wash.
Cute, the bun pinning was a great tip!
+Dionne Hutson thanks
Hi Shanique, I think the style came really good. How long did it hold up for you?
+Tywan Brown hey, Thank you. I'm on day 8 now. But it's wash day so bye bye coils. 😎they held up pretty well though
Really enjoy the video. I love the style you did at the end. and the makeup
+Nadine Modé thank you!
🤗🤗 Which eco gel did you use because I love Cantu curling creme but it doesn't hold that long so I've been lookin for a gel I can pair with it that won't flake up.
This is beautiful man.
love this lip colour on you!
thanks
I like it a lot !😊
What lip color are you wearing? I looked in the description box, but it's not there. Thanks in advance
Its soo cute i will have to try😍😍
Try using a rat tail comb. Start at the root and twist with the comb and as it gets tighter just pull the comb down.... that's how it was done back in the day.
Wow! I've always wanted to try this but I'm scared of getting knots. Should I wait until I get more length to avoid them ? I currently have a short twa (about 2 inches). Thanks for the video - your hair looks amazing!
i think its best to do it on short hair. Less work
I'm getting box braids done tomorrow but I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks you!
this was my go-to style when I had a twa!
How long would you keep them for?
I would keep them for about a week. I would refresh as needed throughout the week.
Loved this!
Hay girl I love your videos and I was wondering if you were going to do any other colors on your hair
+Simone Kerns hey maybe in the future. But not until this is fully grown out
What is your hair type?
"it was a fail" bUT IT LOOKED BEAUTIFUL ARE YOU KIDDING 😭😭
I love the bangs look. I'm gonna have to do a video on finger coiling
You can always try and coil bigger sections and then separate them into smaller sections on the next go around...
+Christa Ashford I tried that in the center of my head, didnt work out for me. But smaller coils really worked but it was too much work
Yassss! my 3yr old son is so tender headed so I tried these this morning and he wouldn't let me finish
+Christa Ashford aww
This really looks good
+Sebenzile Maseko thanks
It turned out really cute! where did you get your bonnet?? I need that in my life...
its in the description box
Your hair looks really similar to my sisters im gonna tell her to check out ur videos🙌🏽
since you are low porosity, did you have to warm any products up?
+sam sy nope
How do u prevent the puffiness in the coils? I had that same problem
saw u on Instagram this style is so pretty on U!!!
This is kind of off topic but do you get knots on the end of your hair I've been getting knots and my hair is so dry. Do u have a solution to my problems? btw I love your channel 😊
angelravin77 I know this wasn't directed to me but maybe you could trim a bit? And try to put extra product on your ends.😋
TotallyAle I trimmed today because my ends were so dry and had so many knots. I think I'm going to moisturize my ends until I see a difference. it's so hard because my hair is growing and kind of seems like trimming my hair all the time is defeating the purpose. Thank you for helping.
If your hair is dry you need to try a different moisturizing method. or it could be the products your using as well. LOC, or LCO method maybe?
Tasha Gregory I use the LOC method but I'm not consistent so I don't know if it's working. I use water for liquid, olive oil mixed with castor oil and for cream I use Cantu coconut curling cream. I'm so frustrated with my hair.
Shandrea Merritt thank you so much for the information and I'll check it out.
Where did you get your bonnet? In search of a good bonnet big enough to fit my twist out securely.
+Brianna Ashford link in the description box
Thanks for sharing...i must try
Sooo cute!
I love doing this style 😍 it's SO time consuming though
I think it's cute
Is there a video on how you dyed your hair?? Was it bleached before? 😭😭please answer
check out video I DYED AND CUT MY NATURAL HAIR!
@@ShaniqueBuntyn link please
Where'd you get your bonnet 😍 and this looks 😍😍
+Mymyraiah hey link in the description box
you should try twirling in the opposite direction
I was about to say that. Whenever my coils don't stay in one direction, it works better in the opposite direction.
Raquel Huyler I’ve been trying to figure out why my coils get puffy at some spots. Definitely gonna try this!
Excellent Channel !!! Great Video !!!
+caramel king200000 thanks
Very pretty.
i love coils but its too time consuming and on my hair doesnt last as long. your hair is beautiful btw ☺
Love it!❤
Glad you like it!
I think you would get better results with using a small comb for each coil or something. it's more complicated, but you should try it or try a practice sometime. It still looked nice in the end tho
i thought of that but the comb causes friction which can lead o breakage.
Yea, that's true... Well if it helps, I have seen a girl do it with a Denman brush
Thanks. i saw that video. Tried it, but i find the denmen brush works best on looser and finer curls.
Aw, well you're bound to get the hang of it with your fingers! Good luck!
lol yes one day!
what hair gel are you using
I've always wanted to do curly bangs but my hair is to long thank you. ima try to pin it.
how do you detangle once the hairdo wears out?😨
+melodysprings k like normal. Detangle soaking wet sectioned hair with conditioner. Never detangle dry hair
Wow! I love the result!!😍 and the style you did is really pretty😍😍
