Railroad Crossings of the Amtrak Michigan Line

- The Amtrak Michigan Line runs from Porter, IN to Detroit, MI, and is one of the few pieces of track outside of the Northeast Corridor that is actually owned by Amtrak. They operate 4 trains each way per day on this line, 3 Wolverines and the Blue Water.
The crossings on this line have almost all been upgraded to LEDs over the past 20 years. They appear to have started from west to east, as they started with GS LEDs, then moved to WCH LEDs, and now they appear to use Dialight LEDs primarily.
Many crossings in Indiana still feature mechanical bells, whereas very few crossings in Michigan still have M bells.
This video will cover most of my catches on this line in the past 4 years from 2015 up into 2019. Most are from the west end, but I did get a couple of crossings closer to Detroit as well. There will be more of these in the feature, so stay tuned.

The Driver of the car that went around the crossing arm in the last video probably got a citation in the mail since their license plate was caught on camera. Waiting a few seconds is not worth you losing your life. Good Footage here of trains in Michigan.

That crossing was eventually redone as in 2023 they got rid of that part of the SSL line.
The one at 15:23 was the best! I would love to ride on a passenger train on a cold snowy night wrapped in a blanket next to a window seat, as long as it is heated! LOL! Awesome video!
Maybe one day, I will do that around my birthday 🎂 in February, and if good becomes best, I will want to take a train trip through the Canadian Rockies in Canada itself! Don't stop thinking about tomorrow; just like the song from Fleetwood Mac (look it up on RUclips).

Elm St. crossing in Three Oaks is the crossing shown in the movie "Prancer"
The first crossing was eventually redone as Amtrak took out that part of the southshore line track there.
I've been on Amtrak's Wolverine from Kalamazoo to Chicago before. One of the fastest trains I'll probably ever ride on.

In New Buffalo, some crossings actually used to have 2 GS bells but one was replaced with a Safetran mechanical bell, acorrding to Google Maps

I don't think they know that the gate only goes 1 inch over the road 😑
Sadly can’t do anything about that because of the wire hanging over that track the gate blocks. Can’t make it long or it’ll crash down onto the wire when activated, and can’t make the gate foldable or else the electric-powered trains would hit the gate, potentially in multiple ways!
They’re better off moving the gate to the other side of the road and adding another to block the intersecting road.

That idiot motorist who drove around the crossing gates is lucky cop didn't see that. At their discretion, they can arrest you for that because you're not only endangering your own life but also the life of the engineer. If there was collision, the engineer could be ejected and the locomotive could land on top of him.

@@TommyBNSF Only if the part that goes from the joint doesn’t interfere with the Shore Line.
I think they would be better off putting a longer gate that blocks the whole road off from the left side BEFORE the intersection, and have an adjacent gate block off the street that intersects 10th street.
