My daughter and I stayed at Hotel M last November. It was dated but nice. Staff were great. Very handy to the Sunday market. Sunsets were incredible from our room. There was something very cool about sitting eating breakfast across from a thousand year old wall.
We loved the city. Can't wait to return.

Chiang Mai is my favorite place on the planet. I've visited 4 times for a total of probably 35-40 days. I've never been to ANY of the restaurants you showed in this vid... and they all looked awesome. I have so much more exploring to do. I can't wait to get back to Chiang Mai. Great vid, love the use of the map.

Tony, I have some Thai pronunciation tips that you might find useful. When you see "ph" at the beginning or the end of a word (whether it be a common word or a name), forget about the "h". It''s always silent. (So, "Huen Phen" is pronounced "HUEN-PEN,"" not "HUEN-FEN.") For "th," it's the same: the "h" is always silent. "Kh" is pronounced exactly the same as "k." Now, "ch" is a tricky one. Most of the time, it's pronounced like a "j". For example, "Chatuchak" (the name of Bangkok's popular weekend market) is pronounced "JA-DTU-JAK." "Chamchuree" (the rain tree) is pronounced "JAM-JU-REE." Sometimes, however, "ch" is pronounced the way it looks. For example, "Chonburi" (one of the eastern provinces) is pronounced "CHON-BU-REE" and not "JON-BU-REE." "Chiang Mai" is, of course, not pronounced "JIANG-MAI." (unless you're a native of Northern Thailand and speak the Northern dialect). This one you have to take it on a case-by-case basis. I hope you find these tips useful. I always enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work!

I was there in 2019 and had a great stay at Saran Boutique hotel in one of the suites. I noticed one of my favorite places for Khao Soi closed during the pandemic ;( "Mr. Kai". I would say 3-4 days is all you need in Chiang Mai if you are on vacation for 10-20 days. You can see most of the usual tourist attractions in the mountains on a full day tour. Sticky Waterfalls as well as others, Doi Suthep, Hilltribe Village, Bhubing Palace, and some great mountain viewpoints overlooking Chiang Mai city. Chiang Rai is a must visit too if you like Chiang Mai. It actually has way more impressive temples, and access to places like the Tham Luang Cave (where the soccer kids were trapped), The Golden Triangle, tea plantations, and Longneck Hilltribe village.

Great video! If you wouldn't mind, could you share more information about how you were able to move your two dogs all the way from the USA to Thailand? I am moving early next year, and I had basically assumed it was impossible. Details like whether you boarded them in cargo or carried them on, how many legs of flights you had, the airline(s) names... all would be great. VERY MUCH appreciated if you can share. Thanks!

I've just recently made a visit to Chiang Mai from the US with my Chihuahua. You'll need domestic and international flight certificates, pet health and fit to fly documents, a permit from the USDA, a pet entry to Thailand permit and current health records from your vet. Some destinations, like Japan, Saipan and others might require an additional type of rabies testing that can take some time for the results. Airlines, also require you to sign forms, which must be submitted and approved prior to your arrival at the ticket counter, stating you will be responsible for any damage and that your pet is able to behave and to relieve itself in a sanitary manner, we use a doggy diaper for longer flights and most international airports have service dog restrooms available to use during layovers. It's really not that difficult, look up the pet entry to Thailand requirements online or tell your vet what country you will be traveling to and they should be able to get you everything you need. My travel dog companion and I have been able to fly in cabin together to many countries by simply beginning the process well in advance of boarding day. It's not impossible, not too costly and just a bit of time and paperwork. Some pets may be too large and need to be placed in the cargo hold but I have no experience with that mode of pet travel. Good luck and give your dog an ear scratch for me.

For some reason I like Old City; too bad to hear it is more expensive there, but I don't go out much anyway. Your video was aimed at the tourist, but I'm wondering if the city's center has any good economical shopping, and if there are decent economy apartments.

Be very careful when renting a scooter there. The rental companies are not the problem. I never had a problem with rentals but during the day there are almost always two police checkpoints setup. If you are a farang on a rental bike you will be stopped. You need to have a Thai Motorcycle license or international drivers document (with motorcycle endorsement). In two weeks I was stopped about 8 times. Also wear a helmet. Fine is next to nothing. I forgot my Thai license one time and it was 200 thb.
