S3.23 Can The Elevator Be Saved?

Originally designed with a dumb waiter, the house got an upgrade to an Otis elevator sometime in the 1930's. Unfortunately, it looks like the car was on the ground floor during Hurricane Ike and hasn't run since. We've been trying to find someone who can either get it working again or at least get the car moved up to the first floor so we can get our basement work done. A new company is coming to look today. Hopefully the third times a charm.
This once abandoned Victorian mansion is undergoing a massive restoration. Designed by noted architect Nicholas Clayton, this Galveston historical treasure is slowly back to life. Restoration of this historic house is not easy, and the extensive yard and gardens add to the complexity and expense. Preservation of the original features is high on the priority list. Follow the journey from start to finish. It’s a tough, hot, sweaty, and very expensive road but worth every minute of it.
