  • While removing a video card, I accidentally pulled off a component. In this video, I identify the damaged capacitor, order some replacements, and solder it back on. All in good, clean fun!

The repairing was good but you should buy a proper 60 fps camera for recording instead of the camera u using right now coz its so laggy 😂

You're right, I'm new to this :), and only realised afterwards that the recording was laggy. It was because of the new microscope I bought. I'm recording on a laptop using OBS, and it couldn't handle having my main top down camera (IPAD) and the microscope enabled at the same time. There's always something new to learn!

I need to replace 2 CAPS (100UF 20% 16V SMD) on a SCION XB Dashboard printed circuit.
I ordered PCE4534CT-ND EEE-FPC101XAP, from DIGIKEY. The soldering legs on these CAPS are TINY and it
looks like I'm going to have a hard time soldering these.
?? Is there a similar CAP that has LONGER LEGS?????????????
Do you avoid SURFACE MOUNT CAPS that have tiny legs??????

Hi, they are not really designed to be hand soldered which is why they are such a pain. The technique that I find easiest is what I do in the video. You apply solder to the pads, then apply the solder tip to the end of the legs trying to melt the solder underneath the cap. Another way is to purchase through hole caps, then solder the legs to the pads, and bend the cap over, out of the way. But you sometimes you don’t have the space for it and you need to be careful not to put pressure on the pads and rip them. It’s also helpful to buy an smd practice board and get your technique right before attempting the real thing. That’s what I did in the beginning when I was struggling to solder smt properly. 🤞 you’re not alone in finding them difficult to solder.
