I actually think the live Mara session feels off. If you listen to the studio session, and then the live one, the groove changes dramatically. I feel like the drums were off in the live one. Plus if he does the three, he gets 3 fantastic videos out of it instead of one. Lol. I freaking love spiritbox.

When one of our guitarists are trying to program drums they only do that to a certain amount because they want to leave space for me (the drummer) to do it my way. the "splash" sound in the verse is actually a sample of a stack. a stack is exactly what it sounds like. several cymbals, usually 2, stacked on top of each other and held by either a hihat stand or a conventional stand. creates really cool trashy sounds or China like sounds.

This band is amazing. Have heard them first times here on your channel and they are even more amazing each time. That guitarist with that 7 strings is absolutely amazing with it's sounds. And the singer (Courtney?) is very legit in what she does. I do like your input in her voice. It really does sound like she isn't just singing but really giving something more of herself into it. Extremely impressive all and all from the whole band.
As a suggestion this time, what would you say about Heavy Metal Waltz made by the greatest actor of our times Sir Christoper Lee? He as actually made couple of albums, mainly about Charlemagne, but the song I would like you to listen is called ''I, Don Quixote''. Unfortunately it doesn't have a music video, but don't let that steer you away from it. One of the greatest Metal songs ever made.

The Mara Effect, 3 song trilogy is epic, give the live at Silverside video a listen ( on their official youtube ) - its 18 minutes long, but that's about the length of the average Tool song anyway isn't it? - Also, the 7th string ( or 7th and 8th strings ) are generally lower notes, not higher, so the 'higher' 6 are usually the same as a normal guitar. Great reactions, keep them coming ♥

Couple of things... the 7 string doesn't have an extra higher string, it has an extra lower one. in standard a six is EADGBE and a seven is BEADGBE. Also, you don't really have to relearn how to play the guitar again because "all of the keys of the strings are different...". You may have to adjust to the feeling of an extra string but nothing about the keys change. Changing keys is something you, as the player, are in control of. Great reaction! Subbed.

As someone who has been playing 7-String guitar for years and 5-string bass for over 1 year: No, you don't have to completely relearn guitar and the strings also are not in completely different tunings. It's still the exact same instrument, you just add 1 string, or 2 in the case of an 8-String guitar for example.
Also, how you tune it is completely up to yourself, as is the case with a standard run-of-the-mill 6-string guitar, too.

  • @Eyeyamgod

just a quick note, Mike the guitar player actually writes most of the arrangement at his home using a drum program. not sure which one but ill guess superior drummer 3. Then his wife Courtney comes in later and writes her vocal parts. so its really more of a husband and wife project and they do most of it themselves. They do have a bass player friend of theirs though, But I dont know how involved he is in it all.

    • @Posirep
      @Posirep 3 года назад

Bill isn't "just a friend of theirs"... He's a legit bassist who's been around awhile.... Albeit with crap bands like Living With Lions in which their singer Stu Ross was a far better guitar player than any of the guitarists in that band... Thank God he went back to playing guitar for Misery Signals.

Groove? Okay, than try Prong " Proof you wrong" or "Carved into stone"! By the way, your reactions are very good. Cheers from a nearly 50 year old guy from Germany

The cymbal was a stack. Multiple cymbals stacked together to get a tight trashy sound.

O.k., time for the "Mara Effect"! It`s made of three songs which go on without really ending into each other. So better take the live version. And concerning the drummer. It seems that he actually is not member of the band somehow, it`s only Courtney, her husband Mike and the bass player who`s name I forgot.

Pretty sure near the beginning the drummer was hitting a china symbol. Gives that initial crash but doesn't sustain.

A little constructive criticism, chill the flashing on the LED lights, it’s super distracting. Good reactions though. Personal fav Spiritbox song: Belcarra...please check that one out

Hi! Love your reactions! Please react to The Bridge City Sinners - Song Of The Siren. Horror folk sounds interesting, doesn't it? I buy 95% metal, but The Bridge City Sinners latest effort is definitely going into my CD album collection. Yep, I'm old school in some ways too!

Ya, Courtney can pull off both fry screams and false chord screams.

that "bass and drum" is more of the guitar cutting through the mix that sounds more pronounced. Even though Mike (guitar) and Bill (bass) are playing the same riff, you are hear more of the guitar. Its tuned to drop F# so its easy to get a guitar sounding like a bass being slapped... fun fact for ya, my guy.

Well consider me subscribed. Love your reactions man, keep it up.
If you want something a bit out there, try "Malediction" by Shadow of Intent. Or "Immortal" by Lorna Shore.

Assuming you haven’t already heard it I’d love to see you react to Trust Fall by Spiritbox. One of their best songs in my opinion.

What do y'all think...Is he ready for Holy Roller yet?? I don't know...me may need Blessed Be first. Baby Steps.

Idk, Rule of Nines is a heavier song than Blessed Be.
I'd say more like The Mara Effect, The Beauty of Suffering, or Belcarra is a better stepping stone
