2. Pocket the money and don’t deliver on the projects.
3. China eventually comes to recoup the money they loaned.
4. And when the money can’t be paid back China now owns the assets.
But it doesn’t matter to Akon because in his head “Senegal would fail anyway so I might as well take care of myself and family while I’m here.”

In the whole world there's about 2 million fatalities yearly from air pollution alone, most of them in China and India. Meanwhile WHO reports 180,000 fatalities due to burns, so I also doubt the entire Senegal is burning out of control by kerosene lamps. Even Rome didn't burn that badly in 64 AD.

This project was doomed from the moment the imagery of what Akon envisioned to be his ideal African city was revealed. This is a top-down vanity project. There's no sense of community to be seen in the garish, comic book architecture. I'm in construction management in America where we have large amounts of concrete plants and metal supply companies. Aint no way in a million years you can build all those large structures in 4 years. It took 12 hour days 6 days a week with night crews for pours and finish work, just to build a 19 story mid rise in 16 months. Aint no way brother.
It be done it would just require more man power to build it quicker.

OK, I'm no architect, nor am I an infrastructure expert, but right off the bat looking at this, I can see that by the time the ambulance arrives in the "village district" from the "health district", the man would have already been dead. The same is with the fire department district. You can't divide all things by districts and shove them together. That's horrible! Kids will travel every day through the whole city to get to the school district where all schools are shoved together. Who would want to live like this? Are you out of your mind?

I was born in Zambia, I have first hand experience with the Chinese in Africa. Zambia is known for copper mines and national parks. The Chinese influenced the government to sell of national parks land to build strip mines. Because of widespread protest against this they had to backoff. But wherever the Chinese have built something, they have forcefully taken the country's assets and natural resources. This is modern colonisation.

It is Pandora's box for these Nations and many are still blind to what's happening. It's truly sad because most of us wish for a better future for the African continent, free of foreign exploitation. China wishes to BE the exploitation. And still, it seems, that many African nations don't really have other options than sticking with China. I mean, they do it cheap. That city design would be an intense challenge for even the best engineers and construction companies in the world. I don't think $6 billion would even cover the costs to build a city like that.

Im an architect student and the designs for Akon City make no sense, the buildings are wayyyy too "advanced" to be able to be supplied by electricity or even utilities. So much so I wonder how the interior would even work. Its so unrealistic and flat out laughable

As someone who studied City Planning, the Akon city barely even functions as a concept on paper. Bunching up of facilities in a city is the worst thing any city can do.
Also the building and their structures are very improbable and will likely, reflect sun rays in the area he wants to build it. Like how a skyscraper in London ended up melting cars just by reflection.

Prince Charles built a city in Britain called Poundbury. The project started in the 80s and construction didn't begin until the mid-90s because of the planning and approval that had to go into it. People weren't able to move in until the 2000s and it's not set to formally finish until 2025, TWO DECADES LATER. And that's in England, which already has sound infrastructure and a strong, $3.3 TRILLION GDP.

I've driven through the "city" in question! It's just a village at the moment though is starting to accept tenancies, it's in Cornwall and developing well, though purposefully slowly.
