My last German Shepherd, bless his soul, did the butt thing constantly to me when I was sitting down: I used to scratch that hairy/fluffy area where his tail connected to his spine, and he loved it. Man, I miss him. Just over a year ago we lost him to congestive heart-failure.
M8 get a tatoo of his face i have 2 of my dogs that have past and i currently have 2 other dogs the now. Rottie and a staffy x rottie love them like my kids man
I trained my dog to do the big stretch whenever he wanted scratches by simply scratching him whenever he did it and now he’ll walk up to me stretch and literally hold it for minutes at a time. My other dog always does the “paws over his snout” thing when he wants a big scratch session and our attention cause I can’t lie, that level of cuteness is too for me to handle
My dogs do both of those things and when they start playing and one gets the other in the right spot it turns into “giving each other some love” with the other usually on his back stretching and the female rubbing her nose pushing her head into him. Love my fur babies
Our second dog, Maddy, would lose her mind barking when my mom and dad would hug. But in addition to the perception of threat/wanting to break up the "fight", Maddy probably WAS jealous because dad was her clear favorite.
"dogs stare at you when they poop" my dog does this, I assumed she was self conscious of me watching her pooing so I look away to give her some privacy. I didn't know she was making sure I'm protecting her. lol
My dog does this but he looks proud while doing so and I always assumed he wanted praise 🤣 so say "good boy" and then "good for you" when he finishes 😭
I get the feeling and idea behind it. But it’s really important to not always put human feelings and behaviors onto your doggo. Otherwise you could misinterpret it wrong but with more serious things. (Though I still feel weird watching my dog potty sometimes lmao)

Get another one. I lost a 13.5 year old in August 2021. I have another that is now 13 that is almost ready to go. Luckily, I still have my 8.5 year old. I'll get another after this next one goes. But not right away. The new ones are never the same but they turn into your best buddies anyway. It is good to have a younger one in the pipeline for when an older one passes.
There's different types of stretching, though. The stretch with the butt held high is the playful bow that invites someone to play. It's not the same as the stretch and yawn, which is either to stretch their muscles or calm themselves.
Yep - the morning front-down-then-back-down stretch when the dog gets up is just that - a stretch. The video doesn't differentiate the important "front leg's bent / elbows down" gesture that's usually an invitation to play.
I had French bull - pug mix, he passed away but he did the front legs down but in the air, and the just woke up or im getting sleepy, fully extended stretch and yawn and he also had this one front leg forward, the opposite rear leg backwards stretch and sheepishly look without looking at me but trying to see what I was eating, stretch.
Nothing wrong with that. To your dog it would look like you're keeping alert for signs of danger when he's in a vulnerable state. I make fun of my pug because he looks so miserable when he's pooping so he probably doesn't appreciate that hahaha. My malamute gets all the respect though.
Watching this video made me remember, when I was a kid, and was afraid of the dark & all that, I actively turned my butt towards "safety" meaning a wall, a lit area, a trusted person, or down on the bed if I was lying down, and I kept my focus on potential danger or directions with the unknown. I did this anytime it was dark out, or I was fearful about something. The only times I couldn't do it was when I was walking in complete darkness, like going home from my neighbor's house. If you’ve raised your pup with lots of hugs and kisses and he still doesn’t love it, then accept that he’s just not a type of dog who’s interested in that stuff. Mine half loves hugs and half doesn’t. He likes the affection, but likes his space more lol.

My dog growing up used to do the front leg stretch on command, but only for my dad. She used to walk over to him and do that so that her paws were on his feet and he always said “bow to the master” when she did that on her own as a puppy, so when she was older if he said that, she’d usually do it. Not always though. And certainly not for anyone other than him.
My mom rescued a dog a few days ago and I went by after work introduce myself and kinda get to know him. I’ve heard the pooping one before. I wonder how much aggravating it would be if I get a worried look and run mid-poop. I’m sure the dog would love that.
I was coming down to the comments to say the same thing. Dogs are smart enough to know we can get those hard to reach places and will give them scritches.

02:55 Not exactly the same thing - but you should also remember that dog's don't have hands (like humans) and often use their mouths to grip hold of things too. Think of times where you hold something... and think of times where your dog would like to "hold" something, but you've discouraged them to use their mouths. I understand this behavior with my Staffie, and we've come to an understanding around certain actions, sometimes she bites my arm (just to grab hold), for balance and to climb down off something gently and slowly. So, when they use their mouths during play - it's likely for the same reason.... it's their way of hugging/holding, directing the other dog.
Now I know why my grandma's barnese Amy is buttbumping into me that I nearly fall over lol. She is such a sweetheart ♥ She has a couch for herself we call "the cuddling spot" and whenever I pay my grandma a visit and Amy sees me, she just starts jumping around until she jumps on the couch and just looks at me, wiggling her tail, waiting for me to come there :D
I have a soon to be 2 years old Shetland sheepdog! (He’s the one in my profile picture) and he is my soulmate, my best friend, my life, my love. I whould die for him
My little dog used to sleep with me in my arms. So I was amazed to realise she was having "falling" dreams. You know? When you dream you're suddenly stepped into a shaft and jerk awake? That always the night after we've been hiking on the mountain and had to negotiate some steep scrambles.
This was very informative! My dog does a lot of these movements but the leg stretches he does all the time. I always thought that he needed to stretch and I avoided petting him until he stood up. Now I know better.🤗
When dogs stretch their legs it is called a greeting bow. It is usually an invitation to people or another dog to play. My dogs do it all the time and they end up wrestling
@@bryanb1136 that’s quite interesting. I’ve had dogs for my entire life and this is my 3rd dog. He’s the first one who has done the greeting among other typical traits. I think it’s adorable.☺️
3:36 to 3:55 I SWEAR THAT'S BOTH OF MY DOGS EVERYDAY. The left is my maltipoo and the right is my minature poodle and my poodle always bites the other's ear and he yelps but a minute later they start fighting again 😂😂😂
Awe! He, he! 💙🐾💜🐾 😍 We may find their behaviors strange, when in fact all they are doing is living their BEST life, free of all human complications & desires! I envy animals for this! They don't know how to feel embarrassed about the things we do. I can only wish I were that carefree! I wish I could get excited over simple things the way they do! Just finding a stick or a rock they can play with makes them so happy! Its adorable & so innocent!
Thank you for this ^^ It helps so much. Now I understand and can communicate with my babies better. Good job to the lovely people watching this to be better pet owners. ^^
My dog would make little woofs and kick her feet. I always imagine she was dreaming of squirrels. The muzzle grab has something to do with some of the mauling of children. Theirs always a hierarchy in the family and dogs will see themselves as somewhere between the parents and the children. If the parents are not in the room or even just not paying attention, they view themselves as higher in the hierarchy than the children and may try to correct the children the same way they’d correct puppies. This is why children get bitten on the face or head. To make matters worse, puppies instinctively know that a muzzle grab means stop and they stop moving, which stops the muzzle grab. Human children don’t react that way. They cry and struggle, causing the dog to bite harder. It’s not always that dogs are viscous.
i got a dog through a rescue group, ( i was being cheap) never owned an animal before but I soon learned that the dog had been burned by ciggs, all over her belly, once while we were on a walk i lit a cigg, and she attacked me leaving 12 stitches, that was almost 10 years ago, she's doing great and she got me to quit smoking almost 10 years ago
Iv had dogs my whole life. Then a while later i got a beagle as my companion and hes very affectionate but identifies as a 4 legged person more than a dog. And does his own thing. Hes a trip.
Actually, when my dogs play, one bites the other, hard. And when the other dog yelps, she doesn’t care. She just continues. And the dog keeps getting hurt. And he is now just trying to defend himself
If it goes too far you can calmly intervene. Don’t raise your voice, say or do anything agitated, just push then apart and tell the one being too rough stop, be gentle. When they’ve settled you can let them play again. If it’s only one yelping and alot and the other won’t back down it’s ok to set boundaries. But not punishment. Also the dog now defending itself is learning to say no in a different way, which is fine, but if you see it get stressed out and in avoidance ane the other one won’t stop it’s ok to be te referee. Momm dogs do it all the time with pupps, especially if she gets to keep them longer than is common in the US, after week 8 the moms give the puppies more freedom/alone time, but also stricter instructions on dog on dog behavior. The puppy with the exessive approach will learn alot from good natured adult dogs, a very important part of socialization, so make sure to hang around experienced dog owners with secure and social older dogs too, and let them teach the pupp what’s good manners.
We have a dachshund that would turn his butt to the other dog when play fighting. When he could get close enough he'd pounce. Interesting that he knows enough to use a trust signal to his advantage.
Haha I’ve seen my moms younger dog do that to the older alpha during play..she really bumps her with her rear lol it’s cute. They’re chihuahua terrier mixes

No more than a minute of letting him sniff my hand and light petting he put his butt against my leg and turned away while he chewed on his toy. Then rolled over and wanted belly rubs. What a sweet good boy
Thanks I’m getting a puppy today and I need this info thanks so much!!

I’m gonna make this dog feel as loved as he can feel!!

My German Shepherd does this every time I wake up and I meet him at the bottom of the stairs I call him my prince bowing down to his queen and I just praise him and I love on him for doing it for me
This is good to know so whenever I do get a service dog 🐕 I'll know what to look out for whenever we're going somewhere since I can't stand to be in the house anymore
Well God bless everyone who comes across this comment 🙏
Jesus loves you!
God bless you
I’ve had many dogs and volunteered, fostered and trained them. Rarely had any of these problems. 💓
I’ve heard the pooping one before. I wonder how much aggravating it would be if I get a worried look and run mid-poop. I’m sure the dog would love that.
😂😂😂😂
Man, dogs are the freakin best ❤
Every time my dogs poops and stares at me, I tell him "I got your back bro, no worries you good"...lol 🤣
My dog just wants his butt scratched. :)

🧐 Sus
I was coming down to the comments to say the same thing. Dogs are smart enough to know we can get those hard to reach places and will give them scritches.
Wish I could get my dog to understand that I'd scratch it more often if he'd stop making it so wet and stanky from constantly licking it!
I wish I knew what my dog dreams of, its looks and sound so fun!
Lol
Which would presuppose they have a sub-conscience.
@@krane15 I shortly dated a religious nut job who claimed dogs can't dream because they don't have souls. Shortly dated. ........shortly

In any event, if you sit still long enough a vine will curl and grow around you. Does that mean the vine loves you and want to hug your? Its a dog Jeeves -- it lives, then it dies. There's nothing in the middle other than its genetic programming, which it follow without fail. Any emotions you see is the product of your vivid imagination.
Love the video.
Dogs are the best. ❤️❤️

My little dog used to sleep with me in my arms. So I was amazed to realise she was having "falling" dreams. You know? When you dream you're suddenly stepped into a shaft and jerk awake? That always the night after we've been hiking on the mountain and had to negotiate some steep scrambles.
This was very helpful and informative! Also surprising! Well done!

As I was watching this my dog hopped off the couch and did a biiiig stretch. Now whenever she does that I’m gonna think, “oh good, she’s comfy” 🤣

We may find their behaviors strange, when in fact all they are doing is living their BEST life, free of all human complications & desires! I envy animals for this! They don't know how to feel embarrassed about the things we do. I can only wish I were that carefree! I wish I could get excited over simple things the way they do! Just finding a stick or a rock they can play with makes them so happy! Its adorable & so innocent!

When he said dogs stretch to show their feelings I thought he was about to say they were feeling tight
Hi
tnks for sharing👍😘
I love this so much. Explains some and confirms my hunches I had! Thanks
They're still hunches. Like dog dreams.
When my dog pooped while staring. I would tell, keep it flowing buddy!
Is it too hard to have a pet dog
i got a dog through a rescue group, ( i was being cheap) never owned an animal before but I soon learned that the dog had been burned by ciggs, all over her belly, once while we were on a walk i lit a cigg, and she attacked me leaving 12 stitches, that was almost 10 years ago, she's doing great and she got me to quit smoking almost 10 years ago
I have a cairn terrier that does muzzle grabbing. Hes the self appointed dog in charge when he sees one of my other dogs. Lol
So does my Smooth Fox Terrier!!! And he’s getting worst. Love him to bits though.
Hi how’re you doing
@@kc1973able hello
Aww I just thought my dog liked to stretch
My German shepherd also do these things.....
My dog does this all the time.. I love my baby girl..
Iv had dogs my whole life. Then a while later i got a beagle as my companion and hes very affectionate but identifies as a 4 legged person more than a dog. And does his own thing. Hes a trip.
Great video..after 15 years nearly i never knew the strech one..so thanks...MORE VIDS ON DOGS PLEASE
God loves you
This just makes me love my chi baby more lol
Nice
Labs are very smart and faithful dogs!
We have a dachshund that would turn his butt to the other dog when play fighting. When he could get close enough he'd pounce. Interesting that he knows enough to use a trust signal to his advantage.
