Alan DeVaney, they aren’t the cedar trees you’re thinking of. This species is actually an Ashe Juniper. It doesn’t have the same characteristics as a true cedar. It’s short and bushy, almost like huisatch . It does nothing but absorb more water then anything around it, killing Hill Country Live Oaks and elms, not to mention the pollen is not pleasant for anyone here.

There must be something about Texans not liking cedar, there are a lot of videos that show clearing of them; love cedar down here in N. Fla

Most of central Texas is naturally a grassland prairie. With the suppression of natural wildfires and with the overgrazing of livestock, the cedar (ashe juniper) has been able to take over for the last 200 years. Cedar is a big-time water hog, preventing the grasses from regrowing, drying up the springs and creeks, and destroying habitat for a lot of species. Clearing the cedar is helping to restore the native landscape, at least a little.

as. a retired old man I watch mulching videos.most of them are good, but the operators who run the mulcher to the tops of trees and chops the main body down is childish and notpleasing to me.,
