Back in the day they used dozers to clear Mesquite, but all things considered this is now the most efficient method.
Drop the stump back in the hole, so the dirt will fall off in the hole. Less dirt in the burn pile.
You have to make sure the ground is not too dry or too muddy.
The same thing with the device that hooks to the back of the tractor that
grabs the tree and pulls it up by the roots.
Some of the roots are longer underground than above ground.

seems it works good on Mesquite and Salt Cedar, But how about red cedar?
Mesquite wood makes great firewood especially for BBQing......The problem with Mesquite however is that it and a bush called Salt Bush soak up all the water in a dry area.....

Is this method more cost effective than using a dozer? Seems like a very precise and selective process but also a time consuming one. How many acres could that operator clear on that particular property in a 8hr day?

thats the best way of diging out roots, why use a shovel, but know i always have to do the hard way that way dont exist when i see stumps lol
every broken off root will grow a new tree
not true, once the first lateral root is exposed you have killed the bud zone of the individual tree.
with huisache that may be partially true but not mesquite
