This is a temp version of the intro that leaked out. The visuals are final, but the soundtrack was several weeks prior to final. The sound-effects were a temp mix from Soundelux, the dialogue was Xander Berkeley plus several Digital Anvil employees including myself, and the music track I created from the OST CDs of "Alien," "Aliens" and Star Trek II" AND the laserdisc of the movie "Predator" - whose soundtrack I digitised and you can hear the Predator's ship flyby at 06:40!!!
Was Watching Aliens yesterday and thinking " this sounds familiar" when she rescues Newt.
@@hherpdderp was watching Avatar 2 yesterday. So many reminders of Aliens and Newt 🤣
Hello Mr. Galway. Thank you for making one of the best games of all time, for me personally it was the best. I was wondering, is it possible to contact the original leading people responsible for the project at the time with an idea to make a "remake" of the game with an original story, like they did with Mafia? As a huge fan of the game, I think that remaking this game without making a new concept, but same with the new engine, graphics, more side quests as the possibility of multiplayer play like in the original Freelancer. One more time, thank you!
@@forth3on3 Jorg Neumann still works at Microsoft and would be a great person to start with
@@forth3on3 After releasing Freelancer in March 2003, Digital Anvil immediately started a sequel for the Xbox360 called Lonestar. But it was axed in 2005.
Gah, so many games trying to live up to the greatness of this one and all falling short...whelp, time to go replay Freelancer again.
Damn PREDATOR soundtrack. If a Nomad bleeds....we can kill it!
At the beginning it's Alien and then mostly Aliens soundtrack.
LOL
After all these years, THIS INTRO IS STILL EPIC !!!
This intro gives me the impression that Atticus Rockford had something to do with the formation of The Order.
That is assuming that he managed to make it to the Sirius systems or send out a communication to warn them.
Incredible, fantastic,....
I love Freelancer, I can't imagine why they are not going on with this saga, it could be big
I never knew this extended intro even existed and I've been playing it since when it first came out, opened my eyes O_O
"It was the 23rd century, Man kind's darkest hour." BEST SCI-FI LINE EVER!!
"Dock. Dock denied. Destination is too far; go to."
We've came a long way since them! We have grown, we have prospered, we have flurished...but we will never forget!
When I was a Freelancer beginner, that... Background really caught my attention...
In the Upper Unknown.
Infact, I was so fascinated, I actually got destroyed because of the radiation - I was looking at it for so long I forgot about the radiation!
Played this through at least 8 or 9 times 'till I found every secret weapon, ship, wreck, jumphole and system there is. And the Hispania, of course. There's just something about it...it easily fits into my "best games of all time" list.
I bought this game new only a few weeks ago because it was so awesome and it runs on my XP computer. In my opinion, there's no reason the Freelancer community should ever die.
This game, will become a classic, if it's not already. This game is still at it's greatest point, it's been there for over 10 years. It still is and will be, one of the best games ever made if not the best! It still has a huge community, even if the game has stopped updating or having official servers , it is still being played, unofficial servers are still online and unofficial updates are still coming. LONG LIVE FREELANCER!
This is my favorite space game. I've played it through about 8 times now and kept finding more and more things. On my last time I found everything- secret systems, the special weapons(DIAMONDBACK and so on), all the relics and got the best equipment with the best ship- the Titan. Finding all the equipment takes time but it's easy once you know where you can buy them. The Titan cost around 700 000 - 800 000 credits, though. And I still enjoy it. Too bad there wasn't a sequel.
I found the Sabre very heavy fighter better for me
i played freelancer ... and NEVER seen the long intro ... interesting
sweet video thank you for posting :D
I feel it would have been far more interesting to have the Coalition returning centuries later and in effect, just resuming the war that began in Starlancer
This game is one of the greatest, it has such a unique story.
Freelancer was a Great Great Great Game. One of the best Games i ever Played.
I Hope for a Freelancer 2 after all this Years.
omg! i have never thought that the nomads were in the solar system! damn! freelancer's story really kicks ass!!!
It's a good thing /v/lancer is giving new life to this game, it is so worth it.
Best damn game that I ever owned way back then - its been that long!!! though with me working on macs, I haven't had the chance to play for years!! Good memories, and fun times
I was playing this game like crazy too, listening to X-Dream - Irritant album, this fit PERFECTLY.
It makes a whole new perspective of the game.
the epic predator OST was dieffinetly epic for a start like this
I remmeber this game very well. I played the demo of this game before it came out, but I havn't got to get it. I love how they made the ladies look good. I hope they make a sequal someday.
It is called the Hispania, and it carried occupants of mostly Spanish, Italian, and Latino blood. Its life support system was damaged so some of the occupants(the Corsairs) left in search of a new home. The rest(the Outcasts) stayed. It's in one of the Omicron system(I forget which) near planet Malta.
One of Most Epic Intros Ever
What I like about the Nomad weapons is that they don't draw any power, I guess they have their own internal supply
I actually remember finding the Hispania's wreck in a system somewhere beyond Freeport 9. I don't remember where exactly as i havent played this in years, but it was awesome!
Awesome, can't wait for the stuff we going to hear in Star Citizen!
Reviving Freelancer to play with the HD version, and caught a reference to this video.
There's a lot of games mentioned; Predator and Alien, but no mention of the first 50 seconds of audio being Heidi Ernest aka Heidi Eaves, the voice of Karan S'jet in Homeworld. This first 50 seconds is straight from the game opening.
This was a version of the origional planned intro during the games early/middle stages of development, Note the placeholder Music, For example James horner music from both Aliens, and Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan.
It was shown at the E3 Gaming convention.
It was however altered and shortened for the release candidate as the idea of having earth's fate and the Nomads as an unknown quantity was more dramatic and benificial in storyline terms. (ie Dramatic effect)
They were right to do so. I think the short one was best. Also it gave you a surprise ingame.
Wow, just realised that I had this in the back of a dusty old cupboard and I've never played it, I missed out
and thats ist the Intro from the special Editon of Freelancer, the War from Alliance and Coalition is the Game Starlancer.
I still play this game.
Damn, that's a lot cooler than the regular intro.
I remember good old Wing Commander Propechy, and now Freelancer too. Damn, why old games are the best?
Cheers
Wow, it's like a totally different game with this intro!
Lol @ all the people who think this is fake. This was the original intended opening for the game, when production problems forced them to change the story, they had to edit this version down rather than waste money on new CGI. The reason why there is music from the OSTs of Alien and Predator is because it's placeholder music. Music chosen by the writer or director so that the composer has an idea of what his original score is expected to feel like.
Ahhhh Freelancer. Easily, without a second of doubt in my mind, the game I've enjoyed most in my life. And I've played a lot of games.
why is this not in the original game? where is it from an expansion pack?
Fucking Microsoft, why you always kill good games like this one! Damn you!
They didn't kill the game, it was released in 2003.
And you think not giving the game a sequel, is not killing it?
Krnt13 The company, Anvil Studios feel apart- they moved on to different things. Microsoft shut them down because, well what else can you do. Anyway if you're looking for a sequel a game called Star Citizen is coming out soon, 2016 with some of the same people on the team.
Discovery Freelancer considers this canon.
No, it's not. Think of Matrix. It was killed by its sequels.
best game intro ever
Get em both, I'd say Freelancer is better for fighting and exploring, but holy shit X3 is so damn satisfying when you blow up a base.
Yeah, I guess you're right about that... *sigh*. A few years back I remember I could just create an account, move the predefined locations of ships to different bases in the universe or change the contents of loot in asteroids for easier access to rare items and anyone could join me in the fun... I miss those times. :(
i just love the money that the nomads give when u destroy them the material that u take from them is so profiting + they die pretty easily when u have the big guns
Thats because the second half of it (after the sleepers jump) was cut since it exposed the Nomads to early.
thats , in a way a tragic end for the Sol ... but it makes an epic link between Starlancer and Freelancer ... in conclusion Freelancer is the "sequel" to Starlancer but more evolved . I like it and the mods are wonderfull . :D
This is an early intro to Freelancer before the storyline was simplified, and changed. Interesting look into the game's earlier development.
the best game i have experienced in my life the best and best of all !!!!!!
Hi from 10 month's into the future, Star Citizen has now just passed the 18 million dollars player funded level and is well on it's way to becoming the first ever fully player funded AAA Space Sim PC game. The Hangar pre alpha module has been released and they just released a sneak peak of a planetside pre alpha work in progress video. The game, players and team at CIG / Star Citizen is growing super fast and is looking to be more awesome than ever. :)
Is it finished yet? 🤔 🤣
Yes .Its wreck orbited the homeworld of the Outcasts in one of the hidden systems.
Its a reference to WW2, when soldiers would fight with the gains being literally yards of territory. Thousands would die over and over going back and forth over a few yards of muck and trenches.
5 stars for uploading this m8
Check out Star Citizen which is being created by Chris Roberts who also made freelancer, starlancer, privateer and all the wing commander games.
I find it amusing how the planets 'pop' at the ending bit.
Yes, i still have that server software on my pc if im right, but im not at my pc this week so i cant share.
i will look for you next week if ur interested.
Well, since they had to use sleeper ships to reach Sirius, that suggests it would have taken years or even decades to get there. Also, don't forget that as far as they knew, the Coalition was in control of Earth and Sol, so they didn't want to remind the Coalition that there were still remnants of the Alliance out there somewhere.
Damn, that really does change things up, doesn't it? It's interesting to see how they cut it to fit the story that ended up in the game.
@schwarzfalk
1) He didn't mean to get there alive. I think the plan was that his ship would reach there and they would get the message.
Babylon 5 season 2 episode 11 had similar case.
2) Because his plan failed and his ship weren't found by colonists. If I remember correctly you could find his ship from one of the outer systems.
@stukahen well in discovery fl the coalition hitched a hike in the hispania destroying its engines... some coalition survived and fled to one map somewhore south of sirius... just last night there was a big fight between the corsairs and the coalition over planet crete!
The game was so underrated...
Wow I never that side of the story! Thx for posting it or I would have never known. Starlancer was b4 Freelancer and I only played the demo but the Alliance and Coalition were in it to. To bad they won't make a Freelancer 2... Stil very nice game with cool mods.
true, but if you look carefully you can see in the first ingame intro (where freeport * is getting destroyed) some Nomad ships fireing the torpedos or what so ever
9 million now!
The freezing was just for the journey to the Sirius Sector. 800 years have passed since the ships arrived there. And I don't think the narrator actually survived. He just tells the story.
Thanks for the advise.I'll try it but my broadband is running out of top-up so i'll i wont be able to try it for now
Nomads have become a large part of the Discovery RP server, though they have changed quite a lot. This game was good, still is decent, though the MP is so much better.
Discovery mod adds tons of ships and systems among other things, much better all round. The MP is engaging and constanly changing. Worth a try!
Holy crap I can't believe I've never seen this!
5,5million right now, exciting times :)
yup in omicron alpha in a scrap field about 20k from the outcast home planet.
i havnt played freelancer in years but i still remember where everything is. i used to play it constantly. then servers went dead. so sad
Love how they go to warp.
Freelancer 2 was in it's preliminary stages of development. But another company bought the one that worked on the game and basically told the employees to fuck off. The little work that we say was soooooooo advanced with it's graphics. it could have been amazing.
Now it's 8.2 million
@martindevries That might be the case, for I too am a huge fan of the game and have never seen this intro when starting the game. :) Thanks a lot!
never seen this video before. nice.
Freelancer Discovery 4.87
Tako je!
Slažem se :)
@CannibalJeri Glad to see IM not the only one know noticed this.
Freelancer is the only game that its "unfinished" intro was better than the final ones.
I prefered the normal intro because it gave the story more suspense and wonder, but they should have included this intro as a bonus once compeleted the game because its to awesome to leave out. Lucky youtube is here.
Oh, so that tall tower-like structure that dominates the Manhattan skyline view at the launch pad is ACTUALLY THE SLEEPER SHIP LIBERTY!
Bretonia, The Raihland, The Hispania, The Casaury, The Liberty. yeahh baby ima start Freelancer all over again
I so glad they didnt use this version! This reveals nomads right in the begining! Thank god because that is best thing on whole game that you dont know what happening and you slowly revealing the conspiracy.
awesome trailer!
got the site. i havent played freelancer in yrs but its one of my top games hands down
wow..wow wow WOW! I did NOT since this version in game!but then again i never really ended this game..i got stuck lovin the bountyhunter / pirate job ingame..time to play this one again haha
This shot kind of makes you feel like there is a second Freelancer game.
Jaeger, you're half right - the music is actually comprised of movements from Star Trek: WOK, Aliens (Both by James Horner), and the final section is from Predator, by Alan Silvestri. A little scary that I know that from memory, but there you go...
Great intro though. Makes a lot more sense than the final version that came with the game...
The best space sim game since so far, X3 is too complex for me and they don't have movie styles like Freelancer and Wing Commander, I played 12 years ago Wing Commander Prophecy and that game was amazing. And Freelancer reminded me on Wing Commander. Still I am playing Freelancer, this game is fantastic, one of the best space sims ever released (Wing Commander and Freespace are fantastic too). I love space sim games, they are fantastic because that reminds me of real freedom in my life...
I have to agree with corporalcharlie; this version though incorporating a much more refined resolution, DOES lack good music. In the short version when you hear the chaotic strings as the sleeperships take off, you really get the feel of the last ditch effort to escape while everyone is trying to hold off the coalition.
I liked how the city on manhattan sort of grew up around the Liberty in the end. Too bad they cut that as well. But they could have done without the score from Predator ^^
Yes, this is the version they never used. Also for anyone else out there who wants to try a mod. Remember that you need to download and install the Freelancer mod manager(FLMM) first, then download all the mods you want. Happy hunting! :)
@DoctorDreh1988 it's an easter egg with no connection to the storyline.there's a mod, anyway, wich makes a deeper digging into the monkeys,it's called "Monkey's Universe".Pretty nice,it's about Robots(on Gammus, the ice planet near Primus),the Order and the Monkeys uniting against the blue thingies. It's multiplayer too.
Err, I don't remember the nomads? Longest I got in to gameplay was when I was going to get help by the guys with the green ships, the rebels. After my friend(s) had been destroyed in an old abandoned spacestation by Liberty fighters or something like that.
in a way i think what you witness in starlancer more or less is the nomads engineering a war just as they did in sirius, might explain why the 45th squad leader just flat out betrays you for example. interesting to see the alliance nearly made it all the way back to earth before being pushed all the way back to an even worse position than in the beginning (when they at least had neptune)
I would have liked it if they used that transition at the end, showing how it tranforms into Manhatten... That was neat.
this is the basic of all other space shooting games
That is a better intro, it explains things.
there was also an italian fleet in the alliance in starlancer, they could have had a sleeper vessel too.
