A couple of additions and coorections: The winners of the League 1 Women's divisions in each province qualifies for the Interprovincial Championship. The winner of that competition gets a spot in the CONCACAF W Cup. As for stadium sizes, BC Place holds about 55,000 people and although the top deck is rarely open it is technically larger than BMO Field.
Excellent vid. Had I known you were in the research phase to do a video on Canada I could have sent you some information. Ultimately the only bits I would have added was some of the various history with CONCACAF always shafting Canada’s clubs at the continental level and how the Canadaian FA forced several lower division teams playing within the American “pyramid” to fold.
I wonder if there are any other countries whose clubs are so intertwined with a different countries pyramid or geography. Especially at the top where presumably the 3 best clubs in Canada are MLS sides
Wales, with Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport County all playing in the English pyramid. Arguably also New Zealand, with the Wellington Pheonix and now a new Auckland club in the A-League (Australia). Basically, it seem to be the norm in countries whose pyramids are fairly recent and whose biggest clubs are usually older then said pyramids.
@@gamatoutsikos if I understand correctly MLS is given division 1 status by the Us Federation and but no status by Canada Soccer so it’s not actually joint from a fifa/federation/pyramid perspective which is maybe a technicality but to me makes it interesting.
@@nixonball1014 THat's true. The three MLS clubs are sanctioned to play in MLS as exceptions to the requirement that Canadian teams play within the Canadian system, the same way that Thunder Bay is sanctioned to play in USL2, because forcing them to play in League 1 Ontario would require them to take oil unsustainable travel costs. Neither MLS or USL is part of the Canadian soccer pyramid.
@@aidanwotherspoon905 Ok. I'm from Belgium, where every village has a football club/infrastructure and every 1 on 3 boys is in a football club. But you guys have mountains and open space to do outdoor sports and icehockey.

MLS is not a different country pyramid though. It's a joint pyramid. Same way hockey has NHL which has both teams from Canada and USA. Same with NBA

Canadian football leagues are way smaller than i expected.
We have a very low population density. Eight teams is as many teams per-capita in Canada as a 32 team league in the States
