    I read somewhere that the original purpose of the “shurtzen” was not to defeat shaped charges but was intended to stop the large caliber anti tank rounds the Russians were using in their anti tank rifles (the two man bolt action type). The side armour on Pz 3, 4 and Panther was vulnerable to this type of “bullet”, especially around the return wheel area on the side of the hull.

    Just a comment on the Sherman Firefly, and why it was called that. The muzzle flash on the 17 Pounder was so great, that unless the crew blinked at the time of firing, or averted their eyes, they would be momentarily blinded and be unable to aim correctly. The muzzle flash also caused problems when in cover, as it could set vegetation on fire after a few shots. 'Firefly' was a very apt name.
    =EDIT= It also seems that the gun could cause night blindness to crew as well.

    Wood wasn't rationed... That's why the Mosquito was such a good idea :)

    The extra pipes on one of the exhausts are actually air cooling intakes. It's prevalent on later ausf. A's. Ausf D and early A's didn't have them, and the ausf G got an improved fan on top of the engine deck.

    As a military modeller and historical wargamer, I really welcome these kits aimed at gaming. Italeri knows what it is doing with plastics, and plastics are so much better to work with than resin and metal.
    Sure, you can see they compromise on detail compared to display models, but still a great looking kit.
    Also love the background history in this item. Keep them coming!!

    The two larger pipes are exhaust pipes, the other two smaller pipes are air vents where a fan blew air over exhaust manifold and carried heat out the vent tubes on back.

    Cool stuff! I'm guessing that they named the tank thus, because of the cuckoo's habit of stealing other birds' nests ...

    I think it was called Cuckoo because it was a foreign tank in the other birds nest so to speak as cuckoo lay there eggs in other birds nests the other birds adopt it believing it there chick.

    It is a mid - Late Ausführung A because it has the machine gun on the right side of the frontal armour early As had a rectangular hatch like on the D for the radio operator

    Unrationed food items were: eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, dried and dehydrated fruits, (prunes, raisins, apples etc,) fresh fish and shell fish of all varieties ,bread and grain cereals, and other grain products such as spaghetti, macaroni and noodles, poultry and game, jams, preserves and jellies, mayonnaise and salad dressing and perishable cheeses. Just a short list

      Most of them weren't on the ration for the simple reason of them being impossible to get in the first place and some were british only produce before the war so no need to ration them but careless food wastage was fround apon and in some cases illegal.

    The armor skirts are too thick. The Zimmerit, while accurate is too thick, and was factory coated from the A onward to the mid production G-it was discontinued after 44/45 due to lack of need. It also would flake off in any surfaces that would be in contact with dirt, track or driving areas. The tracks are nice, and the one piece wheels are a nice addition. The Cannon is indeed a KWK L70. It was first designed in 1939/40. Interesting note on the engine; while it was the same engine as a MK 4, it was under-powered and caused the exhaust to actually glow from heat (the Russians used to target them during night operations). The final drive in the Earlier D variants were prone to break down, which accounted for more of the tanks being inoperable during their first combat exposure in Kursk, Russia then were operable. The transmission was also not removed from the bottom, but rather from the crew compartment through the larger plate where the driver and radio operator man would access the tank (see at about 18:45 for example). The model does suffer from the typical flashing issues as with most plastic models of the scale, but all in all it looks nice. I imagine that soon there will be brass barrels, photo-etch for the engine grill covers, and interior detail for them before long.

    Fish & chips weren't rationed during the war which may explain why Hitler tried to bomb my nan's chipshop in Dudley - which may sound like a joke but is actually true.

    The kit looks good enough for a wargaming table for sure. I wouldn't build anything from Italeri as a model, I prefer Dragon, but for wargaming this thing is just brilliant.
    Also, the Coldstream Guards panther, it looks like a Panther G to me. But close enough since BAM is selling the A model ;)

  • @granapriego
    @granapriego 10 лет назад +1

    When I was younger I used to hate Italieri kits, why?
    Because they never had pilots in there aircraft. And it looks like no tank crew in this either. It would not of hurt to include a tank commander at least. Or is Warlord going to try to make you buy them separate? A plastic kit warrants a plastic figure. I also wonder how much Warlord are going to charge surley they must be cheaper than the resin and metal kits?

    Italeri have a well know reputation for being spectacularly hit or miss with their releases with the majority being rubbish. This guy obviously doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. The plastic soldier company panther looks much more crisp and detailed than this and that's 15mm!

    • @CoffeeHobby
      @CoffeeHobby 10 лет назад +5

      I have built both the warlord panther and the PSC 15mm Panther. But we were not comparing the quality of either kit, merely showing the similarities in the kits build style. And for Italeri, yes they are hit and miss, but I think them doing wargaming kits appears to be far more fitting for them when you consider all of warlord plastic vehicles are Italeri and I haven't seen a bad one yet for detail. Let's be honest, there are worse model companies out there, Airfix for one. So "This guy" does have a fair idea of what he's talking about. And comparing 15mm to 28mm is just unfair.
