You don't need to have the XLR plugged in if you're recording from line out. Phantom power is only needed for the DI recording and using the built-in amp sim. I have the Captor 16 and ran into problems having both the line out and DI plugged in (usually when cranking gain), looked in the manual and it said you only need phantom power for DI so I unplugged the XLR and just took the line out into my focusrite and it worked great, no issues after that :) that'll free up a plug for ya ;)

if the amp has a s/r you can also pickup the signal form send and use the mooer on the same way obviously bypassing the load box...I don't know if you can prepare a comparison between this setup and the other one...could be a great comparison to understand is the difference of use the complete amp and only the preamp...

    • @gianni.chiarello

It's different as with the load box you can drive all the tubes, not just the preamp section. This amp does not have a s/r. I don't think I have ever used that feature on any of my amps. Just me though!

Sorry for the late question; I just came across this video. First of all, very, informative, thank you! Now, the question - is it possible to record two tracks using the two inputs as you have indicated, while not monitoring the non-IR track, if you will, so that you end up with one IR track and one raw, non-IR track? The idea is to be able to use different IRs on the raw track from the computer and get two cabinets going. I know you can do two cabinets with WoS in one input, but this way if you don't quite the IR you used, you don't have to re-do the track. Thanks, in advance!

Every connection between the load box, mooer and audio interface is made using balanced cables? I’m asking ‘cause I tested the line out of my captor with unbalanced, long cable and it’s quite noisy. So, I usually use the balanced xlr out with the speaker sim bypassed into my audio interface. Does the radar features balanced ins and outs?

the Torpedo Captor manual clearly states that "The phantom or external power supply is not needed to use the LINE output" (page 14)
You just need a 48v Phantom Power (or a 9v to 24v power supply) if you are going to use the XLR output. The LINE output is always DRY (no CAB simulation) and does not need power supply. In fact, the XLR DI output is the ONLY feature that needs external powering. Everything else in the Captor - including attenuation - runs on it's own.
I appreciate the effort in making the video.. and the tones you got from that setup are amazing. I was curious to hear something like that.
    But...
Read the manual the next time, dude. You've made more than 22.000 people get a wrong idea about the gear you were supposed to review....

The power (phantom via XLR ou power adapter (9-24 v)) is only needed when you use the build-in cab sims of the captor. Gianni thanks for your video. I was hoping to pick your expertise regarding the most appropriate connection for minimizing noise floor:
You use a TRS connection with an additional XLR that is just there to power the ground (instead of an adapter without the XLR). Alongside that your output in the captor is about 50%
What is your input level in your DAW in DBFS?
I'm getting horrible noise with anything above 10% output in the captor. I'm also using the line in (instead of instrument) in the scarlett that's going through a VLZ4 pre-amp that works with a mic

Thx for the response. As far as my research gave me insights I think line level standart is 0 dBV. Thats a bit more than 1 mW. This makes sense sine the mooer radar can be fed by the FX send of any amp and the manual of my amp shows that the FX send is a 0 dBV signal. So you have to attenuate to line level from my point of view.

Una domanda, mi servirebbe una load box per suonare senza cassa. Quindi in cuffie.
In che modo potrei poi registrare ?

    • @gianni.chiarello
      @gianni.chiarello  3 года назад

Collegando il load box al computer come se fosse un microfono con un cavo xlr alla interfaccia audio. Tutto lì. Ti serve un programma per registrare tipo Reaper, cubase o logic.

This comment makes no sense bro xd given that the whole point of this setup is to use an amp you like without having to mic a real cab. The Mooer just houses IR's and allows him to use the Morgan in any setting for recording or direct to a PA live. This setup is perfectly suited to that amp.
