I just learned of this band when it was announced they will be appearing locally. I watched a few of their videos and was sold! I wasted no time buying tickets. After having seen them perform live, I can tell you they are just as amazing in person on stage. What energy! What talent! Probably the best cover band I've ever seen! They are Russian and frequently tour the US. This is one group I will most definitely see every time they come to town.
This band covers Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Lighthouse (a Chicago-style band), Deep Purple, and the Brecker Brothers...and they fo it all word for word, and note for note. The band leader, Leonid (the bass player), is a musical GENIUS who listens to the songs and transcribes all of the musical parts separately, bringing them together in the studio to perfection. And in their U.S. tours, they do it the same way live on stage. Remarkable band with extraordinary talent!

His name is pronounced LEE-O-NID. He’s Russian. They are going to be famous. It’s amazing how, even though they can’t speak English, they just repeat the sound of the words. There is a video on YT showing how they have to be taught how to pronounce the words and they don’t even realize what they are saying. Most of the credit has to be given to the leader, Leonid, who has transcribed the music, down to every little note, to duplicate the sound of the song. He’s an amazing musician.

Being fluent in a language means you can speak every word so clearly it is understood by the listener as their native language. Many people stumble through mis-pronouncing and hand signaling until their point is made; this is not fluency. The difference in the point being made in the previous comment is that it is absolutely necessary to pronounce the words clearly in this case, because these are LYRICS, specific words that cannot be substituted and must be pronounced properly. For example, many Europeans have difficulty distinguishing and pronouncing the letters ‘V’ and ‘W’. If you had watched the mentioned video, you would have seen what was being pointed out was how Leonid was patiently instructing Vasilii how to pronounce a specific word. It had absolutely nothing to do with whether Vasilii understood the meaning of a word.

Okay, new one Tom for you. Have you heard Buzina Kseniya Yurievna, with Leonid & Friends, sing Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody"? She recorded this a few months ago on her birthday. How she could do this so well is amazing! This woman has soul! I find that so amazing being their culture is so very different than ours. Look it up if you haven't already. Hopefully, you'll do another public review.😊
