I'm very pleased! Babylon 5 is my favorite SF series, even more so than Star Trek. Given the tremendous improvements in animation, this could be excellent.
As a huge Babylon 5 fan, as well as a fan of Animation as an art form, this has been some of the best news that I have gotten in a while. I hope it comes out sometime this year and a trailer will be coming out shortly. I wish I was better with words, so I could properly describe how excited I am for this.
I was a casual B5 fan when it first aired, then I met Bruce Boxleitner at SDCC back in 2010 (or so), he was such a lovely person and was very excited to talk about Tron, B5 and everything he has worked on that I decided that I will always support whatever he is attached to. I will definitely be watching this animated movie!
Great maker! Its been a long time coming. I wonder if they will have G'kar, Sinclair, Garibaldi characters in it and voiced by other actors. G'kar especially as he has long been one of my favourite characters. His voice is unmistakable.
My only gripe is WB Animation tends to do hand animation and not CGI (which I prefer), so it won’t be like any of the Star Wars shows you mentioned. However, if it’s B5 as good as Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Sub-Zero or Injustice, we should be in for an interesting ride.
I prefer hand drawn animation. I like Filoni's animated shows but I prefer the animation from the Cartoon Network clone Wars. But since you gave credit To Mask of the Phantasm and Subzero that means you're okay in my book and a man of culture. 😎

The reason I like cg animation is because when you’re watching the space stuff it’s about 90% the same as watching live action. Not so much when it comes to character work. I was a big fan of Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles - a show that died too soon.
You definitely haven’t seen the best of it. There’s a few gems in there but the show really kicks into high gear at the end of season 2 all the way to the end of season 4. Season 5 is a different story but but the last 4 or 5 episodes are fairly essential with the finale being a work of art.

Also we should not forget the "Mimbari" influenced Klingon Monk from Discovery and the Uniforms influence of the Discovery Starfleet HD Uniforms. So i am glad it comes back

My first complete collection of a Sci-Fi TV series on VHS (!) was Babylon 5. I recall how full my trolley was as I pulled into the checkout register queue. Although VHS tapes are cinsidered the dinosaurs era comapred to streaming services or 4K discs but I have still kept this collection despite no longer having a working VHS player anymote. I have since upgraded to having all B5 releases (all the Telemovies & the short lived Crusade series) So yeah bring on new B5 content any day any universe! 🎉
B5 in animated opens so many interesting doors... it could be the way for the realization of all those projects that fell by the wayside overtheyears - Crusade and Legend of the Rangers specially, but not exclusivelly. You get back the actors that you (JMS) can and fill the gaps with voice actors that sound like those you couldn't get to. If they go that route, God! We might be into a paradigm shift on audiovisual SF. Imagine if, besides B5, they resurrect Farscape or Firefly with it? The technology already exists, thanks to video games. If it also becomes cost effective... Hell, we might end up gettingthat Mass Effect series that's been rumored since forever.
As we've seen (heard) in the animated Star Wars shows, there are some very talented voice actors in the business, and I would not be disappointed if the voices of the departed cast were done to that same level.
I guess this is what JMS was hinting at early last year, when he said that a secret poject involving the original cast was to be released in 2023. Since many members of the original cast have since passed away, doing an animated film makes total sense. Will be watching with interest and great curiosity. One of those curiosities is if the character G'Kar is in it. JMS once said that no one would play G'Kar other than Andreas Katsulas.
Very exciting if it's not in this one . I really hope they include the Excalibur and how they finally cured the plage in crusade as we never really get to see that at the end of the show
I just pray that JMS writing for the reboot show will still be on par with the original show. I hope modern times havent swayed him. Also, he had lightning in a bottle with the original cast. I hope he finds some kick ass actors to equal that level of gravitas.

We wait all these years for the return of the best sci fi TV program ever. And what do we get. A cartoon. A bloody cartoon. And, people are so desperate for anything B5 that they jump up and down in excitement about it. A cartoon.
JMS has said he'll never recast the parts who were played by those that have passed on,so does that apply to this animated show? and if that's true then there's not going to be any G'Kar,Garibaldi'Delen,Vir,Zak being in any episodes?,or even any flash backs to Commander Sinclair or Zathras either,it sounds like there's not going to be anything worth watching, if that's true,all they'd need to do is get some fans or voice actors who could pass off a decent impression....
I am so tired of all these animated shows of my most beloved sci-fi shows they lack realism and miss the mark on replicating the feel of the original and thus are found lacking!!
To long the ship has sailed. I loved the show and all its complexity. But to much time has passed cast members have died. The best way to honor them is to watch the original show.
I'm with you. In watching the end of Picard S3 again after hearing this news I thought, what would it be like without Riker, Geordi and Beverly... Where they should have stood would be noticeably empty... sadly, there are far too many missing cast members for me to get on board with this. As G'Kar once said "to everything there is a time".
