Bob, how hard is it to not the throw the camera down and say "Let me fly this sucker"?
For me, the aero commander especially the shrike commander, is the most beautiful General Aviation twin ever made.
That would be the DA 62/42 for me
I totally agree I just can’t stop staring at them when I see them!
theEntreriCode the DA62 looks modern and sleek, but it lacks the sheer class and pretty style of the commanders
When the door is open and you look at the cross section of the fuselage the quality of the twin Commander is evident. I’ve always loved them. Especially the shrike.
I agree, I would love to own one one day
Wow a job bagging groceries for a year paid for his PPL. Crazy to think how things have changed.
very true, I make good money working on commercial electronics and paying for flight school up to commercial is ridiculously expensive without taking loans.
I'm currently paying for my flightshool during highschool pumping gas
You can get a private for 7 or 8k. That’s achievable for someone in high school with no other bills to pay
@@glishskiii exactly, with no other financial obligations I pull around 700$ every two weeks and just about every penny goes to flight school, I'd have no way of doing this if I had to pay rent or other bills
My private pilot’s license cost $550.00 thru a college in Texas. Of course that was in 1970. 20,000 hours later has seen training costs skyrocket.
For a 56 year, it looks in mint condition.
The pilot or the plane ?
Most of the GA fleet is from the 60s-70s
My friend has a 95-b55 (Beechcraft baron) that’s 42 and yah airplanes retain their value all right that ones might even be better thoug
Dave Shaw lol
Also ikr man it looks beautiful
I had the great privilege of seeing Bob Hoover do his routine back in the 80s.
He showed me that impossible only means flying a couple of ticks outside the flight envelope. amazing pilot.
Hey Bob. I'd love to hear specs on speeds, flaps, etc during the take offs and landings... Thanks! Go LA Tech... !!!
Beautiful plane. He really takes good care of her.
That's very evident
You sure couldn’t get a license by bagging groceries today. You better have a high paying job if you want to do anything in aviation.
💸💸💸
Jiminy Cricket !!! Ive watched a bunch of UTube takeoffs but this bird is hauling the freakin mail ! I thought Baron's were pretty fast, but this twin is kicking derriere and taking signatures with ease ! OK..I want one. Anybody need a paperboy....grocery bagger....stockbroker ?
Fun plane! Pretty big difference at 30gph vs the 8gph of the Piper. It does look like a smooth, comfortable ride though. Hey, I'd be glad to hear more technical details about the instrumentation, quirks of that make/model, etc. Don't worry about turning off the casual viewer, you're probably getting mostly plane and flight enthusiasts here anyway. :)
$100 burger LOL. I've had plenty of those, but it's the experience with friends that counts.
A chafed Hydraulic hose, yeah I spent 20 years working as an A&P, I can attest to the fact that its hard to find people who can pay attention to detail.
That's one narrow runway! Cross winds would be fun.....
One thing i notice is people that have planes dont just fly .. they live to fly.
Bobby, do a Flying Doodles episode on your path to becoming a corperate pilot, and the type ratings, and planes you progressed through.
Seconded!
John was very interesting; I could not take my eyes off the video; my coffee waited; when I said you have upped your game Bobby I mean you have really have topped; living the dream life to the fullest; great great new channel; awesome
Thanks so much for watching! More to come soon!
I wish I had been in that left seat! I took ground school in 8th grade from my science teacher who was a saber pilot in Korea. He was shot down over enemy territory and broke both of his legs when he bailed out. A North Korean family hid him and nursed him back to healthe, but they had no idea how to set the fractures in his legs, so he was hardly able to walk and never flew again. In my science class I jumped right into the flight segment and never left, even though we were supposed to rotate through the several disciplines he was teaching. He mentored my buddy and I and by the end of the year, if we had the money we could have gone for our licenses. Too bad northern one of us could afford the classes. I loved every minute fit, and all of his stories! Thank you Mr. Marsiglia!
Cool set of yokes
Hi bobby does your previous stroke mean you cannot touch the controls ever or are you ok with a fully functioning p to date pilot
Awesome plane! Love the Louisiana shout out! 36 years here for me. Have had a bunch of buddies go through the LA Tech program. Currently flying out of KBTR, KHDC and KNEW myself! Keep up the great vids!
Commanders are a great plane. Flew right seat in a 690a with a pair of Garrets TPE331 a couple of times. Definitely out of my class. ;-) The commander in this video is very clean! Thx.
I love to hear kids going to college for something useful instead of sociology or gender studies.
I am really enjoying these videos. Good production values. Thanks for making these :-}
The real question is: John, what do you do for a living, and are there any openings?
I had the privilege of flying this airplane with John at Eagle's Nest. Such a fun airplane! It was almost surreal turning that puppy around in steep turns and doing landings in that beast! John and his family are wonderful people. The good noise and acceleration to go with it!
Great video! I love Twin Commanders, something about them...... Thanks for sharing.
My pilot's license was earned through busing tables and being a security guard.
Oh...mines was earned as a bagger and dishwasher..
Mine was a pot washer at a busy cafeteria and. Tire buster at Sears
I'm amazed. I'm 39 and the flight school here in Houston I went to charges $19K for the basic license. That's not including instrument which is another $8K. Maybe I need to shop around....
@@AshtonCoolman Or these people are old folks. Times have changed
i bet uncle sam payed for everyone else
I remember Bob Hoover pouring a glass of water into a glass while he was doing aerobatics in this airplane. Amazing. Beautiful Plane.
Where are the dinosaurs thought this plane was eaten
Love the big view from the cockpit engine's sound like heaven
Flew to Ft. Lauderdale Exec? My dad used to fly out of there when I was a toddler. Had the Commander's sister: the Aerostar.
You're gonna give steveo1kinevo a run for his money!
Awesome , his back yard is a runway. Commander The Bob Hoover special and his wonderful coffee pouring while doing acrobatics.
Jealous as hell. How do these people come up with all this money? I worked hard my entire life and I can't afford a cub let alone a twin and a massive hangar! Guess I picked the wrong field. Good on you, sir.
I was in love with this bird but someone told me about it's very bad reputation so I forgot the idea even to fly one. Looks like everything I'd been told was merely pure nonsense. By the way, there's a noticeable free play between left and right steering yokes for roll. Watch and see.
The Twin Commander is a great plane. It was very popular during my generation. Very low to the ground with a very sleek look. I have never seen the interior but it looks extremely comfortable but I would want to be in the cockpit if I was flying. The performance on take off was outstanding. Great documentary and video. Hope you enjoyed your lunch at the terminal!
Siempre escuche en cuba. Sobre la calidad de estos planes en todo su conjunto. Lo felicito. Continúe enjoing this beautiful "" commander "", of the 1956 year.
I SAW A UFO! (Speck of dust on your lens.)
I recall Bob Hoover did some amazing things in a Twin Commander. Awesome airplane!
There is no mistaking that "detroit diesel" geared engine sound. It's different for sure. You can't confuse it with any other aircraft engine.
Flew with your son at American Eagle back in 2001.
Over head switches get bitches! What a beautiful old girl!
The passion that nearly every plane owner has makes for some great videos. Keep it up!
The aero commander factory is a mile from my house.
will the fuselage slide on the ground on strongly curved runways?
Twin engine high wing! Doesn't get better than that!
Yeah not many of those!
Amazing looks like just delivered from the dealer in 1956 gallon of auto fuel was 30 cents no one was concerned with fuel burn. Shoulder harnesses would be good upgrade.
Got my Professional Aviation degree from Louisiana Tech! Go DAWGS!
I love this plane. The Commander was my favorite besides the J-3 cub my neighbor had. But unfortunately the commander was lost in an incident involving a microburst during takeoff at GCN. Thankfully everyone "walked" away with minor injuries. Sadly the plane was a total loss.
A good landing, but not a great landing. Unfortunate.
John seems very interesting. Pictures on Flightaware, show very well with the gear up.
Does the strange, additional structure on the nose have anything to do with a radar...?
Those airparks where the hangers are really close to the runway not much room for a mistake.
That landing was awesome! So low it freaked me out! Merry christmas guys! LOW RIDER
The turbo commander 690 is my favorite. But I love all the commanders too
As a student pilot who has only taken off out of a class D airport, taking off on the small runway in the private community with a big twin engine seems crazy! Love the video.
as long as the wing spar issues have been dealt with correctly, a Commander is a lovely airplane to fly
Lol my old man was just talking to me about this guy. He and my mom own a little shop in downtown Mansfield and his daughter is one of his new employees there. He came up there about a week ago and told my dad about the commander. Pretty funny to stumble on this video.
I sent you the subscription to Flight Training Magazine!
John Peroyea awesome!! I’ll be sure to subscribe to it!
Small world.
Fun fact, this type aircraft was the smallest aircraft to ever officially use the call sign of Air Force One. Great video as always! Ty
Ahh.. conjures up memories of watching Bob Hoover perform airshow routines in his Shrike Commander 500S. Nicely done Bobby!!
What a nice guy!
Wow this guy's got experience knows the script
That’s an excellent and roomy aircraft
Great video I live in an airport community and it’s awesome!
Beautiful sexy airplane you got there.
I’ve seen aero commanders doing 177 knots
Really enjoying the content.. keep up the great work!!
Man 30 gallons an hour I'm out right there. I'll stick with my 2 1/2 gallon an hour paramotor!
A delightful experience nonetheless though, eh?
that sight picture is sooo different. ive gotta fly one. beautiful machine
I am an Aero Comander lover!, nice video and flight.
Love the visibility with back-set high wing!
Beautiful aircraft... and Go Dawgs!
Cool plane! Love the new series Bobby!
My all time favorite as a kid in the 1950s! Aero Commanders were manufactured in the OKC metro with their main service center at Downtown Airpark (RIP). They flew over my house every day, many times each day. Nothing sounds like a Twin Commander...it's beautiful. Nice vid...great plane.
Great experience to get to fly in these small craft. I can see you really know your stuff. Nice to see you following your passion after all you went through. Bet it is nice to share your sailing tales with these guys. I think you have a unique perspective and hop this channel does as well as Doodles.on the water.
Awesome videos, I had to subscribe!
The twin Commander. Still a nice Airplane. It really is...... I remember Bob Hoover.
Looks like a US Navy SAR plane but not for carrier use. Neat plane tho.
Spreading music all over the neighborhood.
I love twin commanders!
The shape of this aircraft makes me wonder how difficult it would be to convert it to amphibious capability?
I'd rather a Grumman Goose if that were the case.
Thanks for the vid. Great stuff. Friends of mine owned one of these in South Africa.
Cool airplanes for sure!
The commander pressurised turboprop is a plane to lust after!
Double the cost if yer lucky.
That has to be a cool place to live!
I saw a guy belly land an Aerostar last spring. It held up very well other than both prop strikes. Strong airframe it seems.
So are you through with sailing?
That’s a cool ground rush on T/O, and landing. Great plane!
I love the Aero Commander. I've flown a similar one a few times myself. Very smooth in typical summer light turbulence. The one I flew was a Turbine version. Good climb and nice cruising speed. IIRC it also uses less fuel than the Orenda's. Classic looks and really amazing aircraft.
First twin, I ever flew. My fath in law owned a aerocommander and a Mahl STOL aircraft I hated with a passion. The Commander was a jewel, perfect for day trips to LAX, SAN, SNA.
2 things.. did he have to do a weight & balance after THAT meal?? and, with all he put in that plane, where were the shoulder harness'?
My parents once lived at the Spruce Creek fly-in community in Florida where the strip was 5,000 x 150. Your video felt like you were landing on a taxi way. FYI: each Florida county got a field of 3 strips of 5k x 150’ during WW2 as the US Military was gearing up for an air war against Germany. Most of the fields if not all were turned over to the counties as the war ended.
Great plane, great video and great pilot. Thanks for putting this up. Living on an airpark with your aviation mistress. Liv'in the dream! (Still cheaper than a human mistress).
I love the aero commander, first plane I ever worked on was a aero commander at aviation high school in queens NY. You sir enjoy that bird she is nice.
*Nice landing*
Love this channel!
Thank you!
Very cool airplane and video
Twin Bonanza alternative?
I love that type of yoke, only found on a select few : twin cmd. Concorde. Embraer...
I bought an aircraft carrier because I wanted an F15. I financed it by a weekly paper round. Unfortunately the mooring fees were prohibitive so I had to sell the aircraft carrier. I did consider purchasing an area of coastline and constructing moorings, but that would have meant delivering papers twice a week instead of once.
Beautiful airplane!!!!!
Like em...got my multi in a shrike commander/ Lycoming engines
Always loved aero commanders since I was a young kid. Beautiful airplane
I love the looks of that aircraft. Great video!
great plane ! nice flight!
